Culling seems worse?
I was running with a small group on my warrior earlier today.
Setting up some catapults to bombard Anza from mid-range.
We soon see three red coats heading our way. No problem!
Until 3 phased into 10. Figured there was more due to culling problems.
Started to turn to run. 10 phased into 30.
Suddenly my screen was covered in a sea of red and dead before I can even take a step. We were already over run, surrounded and obliterated by a 50 man zerg before they even appeared.
Yeah this version of culling is really bad. Please fix.
Things have definitely changed. I can see the enemy now, but a new problem has surfaced. When I get into the middle of a large scale battle, I get disconnected. Last night we were doing a breakout event and when we got into the tower, the defenders were waiting… lag – lag – lag – disconnect. Reconnnect dead at spawn.
Re-entered map and the battle was still going on. Ran in through the broken wall… same thing.
Three times this happened.
So I started watching. In PvE everything is fine. In WvW everything is fine unless there are more than about 30 people in a battle, then my lag goes crazy and I disconnect.
This started after the culling changes this week.

It feels much much worse to me.
Before I used to see around 20-30 players at the front of the enemy zerg (if there were that many present ofc) which is enough to make me stop, if there were more behind them it didn’t matter as much because 30 is dangerous enough anyway.
Now… I see on average 2-5 players and no more until I am literally right ontop of them. I was running towards a tower on my own earlier and met some players, thought “2… well, I’ll try fight back then instead of hope I can outrun” only to slowly see more of them appear around them, there was only about 15 or so enemies vs me so I dont see why there would be culling to begin with :/
Before I would see half the zerg, and the other half if I got close enough. Now I seem to see the whole zerg no matter it’s size, but it takes 5 seconds to appear.

Yeah, the issue is that the culling test failed late last year and was reverted. So I guess ANET decided that maybe if they implemented the failed model a second time, they would get different results.
At the very least, let me be able to tell if someone running towards me is an ally or enemy. Right now, I can see the character model (sometimes) but whether they are friend or foe doesn’t appear until I click on them.
New system is better, I roam in a group of 2 and also Zerg bust. much better
before never have issues with culling except in rare major zergs vs zergs, but since new patch I got culling every where I go, pve or www. If thats the definition of fixing… f me. Not to mention I did not seen any of generic figure so far, and i challenge anyone to post a screen shoot of that generic figure.
Not to mention in pve on events, mobs are all generic figures, they all looks the same every time, all same collors, height, movements, wapons and still get major culling, I see them when they are next to me
A Skritt is dumb. A group of Skritt are smart.
A Human is smart. A group of Humans are idiots.
The culling is horrible. It’s complete and utterly terrible. Why would you implement the “low-res” system on the ‘test-culling’ part of your culling instead of simply putting it on the old system, which is tried and tested?
This patch is horrible for organized WvW. I would much prefer the previous culling in Zerg vs Zerg fights too.
