We need to give the siege identities and then cannons should fit in just fine (also a cost adjustment). Boost arrow carts ability to do area denial/control (slightly more damage, more soft cc BUT OVER TIME ONLY, maybe over 10-12 hits, more cripple, maybe some weakness). Boost ballista damage to people caught in their direct fire, i mean you have to line people up with the dang things, these should be your primary anti-personnel weaponry at range for cost efficiency. Cannons would be generalized with burst damage in a large radius, but expensive. Also buff gravel shot on catapults to be an anti-personnel option (it arcs, so it is good for defensive spots), cause seriously: 3 tiny rocks that shoot over a HUGE random spread is really terrible. Like why!? Give it like 10 rocks, rain on the enemies parade, or make them tumble like shield gen 1. SOMETHING. Plus, if someone tries to use a catapult like that, you can rush em in between shots, unlike arrow carts, so it isnt really a balance issue.

I agree that cannons could be a nice addition if siege weapons had specific identities.
Giving ac’s a bit more cc while taking away some damage could make them a great tactical weapon. Like slowing enemies down in order to keep them in the cannon damage. Or perhaps a chance to hit the enemies eye, blinding them as well as perhaps a very very small chance for a 1sec immobilise.
Then cannons are the big hitters doing some damage but are also more vulnerable to getting killed because they have to be placed on the edge of something.

The experience so far has been very negative, in my opinion.

While I haven’t deployed any myself, I am fine with the “we will treat them as a joke because they are a joke” approach, lining up cannons behind gates (because sure, why not fire right through them), putting 20 on a wall, going “lul good CvC” when it’s squad vs. squad of cannons and the like. Go see a humour screenie on Reddit where the little rowboat in Bay has multiple cannons stacked on it, again, sure, it’s funny… but it detracts from the game mode, which could stand more positive than negative press at this stage.

War boat needs to have perment cannons on it!

They may want to drop the dmg to player on cannons but up the dmg vs siege i think cannons can fill bilsta roll a lot better due to longer ranged and no drop in projectile. Though i think deployable morder is something that wvw needs for a real counter siege so next beta!

Keep in mind a cannon can only hit what it can see so its very hitable and its a one shot so its easy to avoed. Its weaker then AC for anty player.

They’re already strong enough. Can hit through gates, does some big damage to siege, can hit up to 50 targets, has no timer, can’t be crit or hit with conditions, and IS NOT EFFECTED BY SIEGE CAP LIMITS. It’s so utterly broken that the answer will be “NO!” from anybody you ask.

Most siege can hit though doors and still ac are more able to deal with zergs then cannons because an ac can be used at a safe potion where a cannon must be able to see where they are shooting. If any thing it would be better to do away with AC and replaces them with cannons.
Just to say “NO!” for the sake of saying no to all siege not going to fix your problems with siege that in the game already.

I think Cannons were a potentially good idea, However implementation was terrible. Siege cap on them should be very limited, maybe 1 in a 4000 radius per team. Decay should probably be 15-20 mins. Possibly with NO refresh.

I am actually gonna vote YES for all the bad decisions from now on since i have access to many accounts and friends who dont play anymore but can still log in and vote for it. They dont care about what the forums ask, each forum wvw, professions and pvp are asking for years now reasonable new/fixed/balanced changes and they couldn t care less. So i agree with the vote for the wrong change make it die as fast as possible and maybe something will change , if not well there are many other games out there.

Why do you let people with zero experience in WvW vote? People should have at least 1k WvW rank before being allowed to vote, or maybe even better: ask the top guilds in WvW what to do. Or else you risk polls getting abused by PvE ppl who just to troll.

LOVE THEM ! Please keep them Anet, and lets see a Guild and Superior version. About time defense was given a boost, and they also make good field pieces. I would really like to see scaled Golem suits and a mobile seige unit that deals catapult type damage. Thanks for making the game more interesting.

I think if the cannons count to the siege cap, then they are an interesting alternative to current siege. If you have 4 sup catas on one door istead of 4 cannons you also cannot build. If you have 4 cannons firing on a choke or 4 sup arrowcarts: that zerg is going to die.
I think it is also an interesting and fast option to take out defending siege in some places.

The ones unhappy with cannons: stay constructive and say why you don’t like it and how it is going to be fixed, instead of bashing and whining. This isn’t the american presidential election.

Is cannon fire considered physical damage? Is toughness considered on the damage reduction at all? Seems they are very strong. Also is there anyway to turn the cannon? Saw some poorly placed cannons but when I jumped on them, they just had 3 skills which shot forward. I know I must be doing it wrong

Kinda flawed logic, here. Go with that route and here’s the logical progression of the history and future of WvW.

→ -WvW starts super successful and slowly declines.
→ WvW broken and unsupported – years of suggestions are made.
→ ANet starts looking into some problems.
→ Anet implements a feature nobody asked for.
→ Players hate it. If kept it’ll kill WvW.
→ Players think finaly killing WvW is a good idea to force people offline to get it re-done.
→ ANet polls second time, sees overwhelming favor in support and implements changes agreed supported by community.
→ Game mode totally and quickly collapses.
→ ANet needs to get its players back and doesn’t know how.
→ ANet associates player-run implementations and ideas/suggestions to be of poor quality or consistency due to the support of cannons and it killing the game mode.
→ ANet ignores or deliberately goes against other player-made feedback.
→ WvW is relaunched in ANet’s own vision with trends of neglect and being more broken since it had more players when it was.
→ Players salty their plans failed and don’t re-join.
→ ANet down in revenue and salty they don’t know how to support RvR.
→ ANet just shuts down WvW again and doesn’t bother trying anymore.

I’m not actually opposed to this. I think it’s pretty well known that having too many hands in the cookie jar caused a blurred vision and there never was any real consistency shown across the years. It’s definitely been an after thought. It kinda makes me feel they could have succeeded better if they just did there own thing from the beginning. Kind of.

I’d love player input into that vision and some ability to help as a community to contribute to make it great, but players overall have shown they will just take what is given and find ways to take advantage of it for personal gain. We all want many things, whats important to one may not be important to another. As a company, it’s Anet job to define and set a single vision for what they expect of WvW. And if it differs from what players want, it’s not a bad thing. This is how some companies and competitors are born. If they miss the mark, they miss it under there own direction and own vision. Another rises, and makes what was wanted to those like minded.

To be honest, the state of WvW just lacked consistent vision and support, and instead allowed for players and communities to control the outcomes. I think Anet took in feedback (way too late) from a very niche market who were unable to properly communicate some ideas that have been shared over the years. Instead only hearing and pushing for things that might make it interesting to a wider audience of players overall from the game. And we got … this result.

The market saw a potential which Anet didn’t exploit soon enough…. and eventually we’ll see a bigger better scope of games to chose from which may very well hit the nail on the head of what has been suggested for years.

Anyways, it’s friday – time for a beer, cheers everyone and happy reset weekend.
