Designate Servers Casual/Hardcore?
Sort of a GW2 equivalent of UO’s “Siege Perilous.”
Doesn’t make any sense, I’ve played far more WvW than anything else, which apparently makes me “hardcore”, I’m also fine with the event.
Catergorized servers just because you don’t like one tiny bit of WvW, seems silly, also if you want “hardcore” why are you even playing GW2, it is a fluffy game in virtually every respect, surely you should be playing mass PvP in a sandbox game with full loot like EVE or the new Darkfall.

Ah memories..
Server – Fort Aspenwood

Is it possible for you to post why? That’s the point of the thread.

Not everyone is totally self centred. I tried to make it clear that I’m considering the community as a whole.
I think they probably should have done something else rather than this event and if this is kept, it needs some adjustment. Just feels a little bit rough and not really polished.
With that said, I don’t really care if I have to kill another NPC or not. Already have to do that to take towers and keep and flip camps.
WvW is very population dependant. A top tier servers needs to have better coverage than lower tier servers to be competitive. Hard core WvW guilds even in NA tier 1 are not enough to fill all three maps during prime time, let alone throughout the entire day. Often during the week one server with either have far more coverage or it will have a much heavier presence on one map compared with others, resulting in full caps and people logging off of the map until a big guild comes and PvDoors it down. The break out mechanic is designed to make these maps more competitive for the servers wiped off of them, this is good both for the people who own the map because it revives the competition on the map and gives them people to compete with and it’s good for the people who got wiped off because it jump starts their presence on that map and centralises a small force of players to build on to further strengthen their presence on the map and get back into competition.
WvW on the highest ranked server (Sea of Sorrows) relies on everyone contributing, not just the hard core players. The need for casuals to participate in the coverage (WvW is up 24/7, points are either scored or bled in this time depending on your coverage from both guilds and casuals/militia) is only greater as you go lower in the tiers. Casuals are also where competitive guilds recruit their new members as the old ones burn out or if they want to grow.
Splitting up the servers further would only hurt WvW and we need to accept that casuals/militia are the core of WvW, not the hard core guilds. It’s a big competition and it can’t be won by big guilds alone. I also think break out is actually good for the game and the future of WvW.

I already posted why, I guess it wasn’t obvious enough:
- Wasting resources to catergorize servers on the basis of one very, very minor aspect of WvW, is silly.
- Connecting “hardcore” with not liking that tiny aspect, is silly.
As for “self centered”, you must be kidding, try looking in the mirror, you want them to waste resources on setting up a system and split up the playerbase, because you don’t like one tiny event in WvW.

Your statement does not reflect the content of the OP.
This idea was conceived after the introduction of the Breakout event, but it’s not limited to that event
This thread is not a thread pertaining to the merits of the Breakout event.

See above.

This is not a suggestion thread, no request is made of anyone regarding use of resources.
Thank you for putting across a well structured point of view about the original post rather than going off-subject or by distracting others by commenting on posters rather than posts.

I do want to reiterate that this thread is not directly about the Breakout event. It’s rather about providing a opt-in for playing wuvwuv with additional mechanics,
With that in mind I don’t think the population itself would be split by the designations. I would imagine those that favour vanilla WvW are both casual and hardcore players, and the same would apply to those that favour the additional mechanics.
There’s little merit in continuing with this thread as it’s unlikely to produce anything practical, I just wanted to hear the community’s thoughts.
Thanks for your input, good luck and have fun.
I think this is a good idea in its own way.
Yeah, it’d go against Anet’s philosophy of player interaction, (even though they’re lacking in that dept with the lack of things such as a dungeon finder), but it would get rid of a lot of the crying about classes such as thieves or bunker ele’s being overpowered if the lower-skilled players could be free to run around and do what it is they do.
The fact is, there are hardcore players that master everything about every class and know each inside and out, and there are casual players that put in a few hours into their one or two characters and that puts them at a disadvantage. Putting those two against each other in a PvP environment doesn’t always work too well.
