..and anecdotal evidence says the map you queue up from, the manner in which you queue (B screen vs. a portal in LA), and moving maps while queued can all have an impact on queue length.
Do we know which is a better route to take, or is it all up in the air?
Not really, no. It’s pretty much voodoo and witchcraft. However, I tend to get the best results (i.e. not notice any queue shenanigans) when queuing from either the mists or another WvW zone. Since I don’t like standing around doing nothing, if my guild is in a map with a queue, I’ll usually zone into a non-queued map and queue from there and play until it pops.
I’ve personally noticed longer than expected queues when queuing from the LA overflow or maps where I’m downleveled. Somehow being downleveled may effect things but there’s no fact behind that, or any of this really. Just anecdotal observation.
