Yeah, sensationalism and hyperbole. Come on, we have no idea what they choose to focus on. It’s not as if we have patch notes to tell us. Stupid Americans.

I can give Anet the benefit of the doubt on the pve content. Most of it was most likely in development before the game went live.

Now, what would be nice is getting some answers about wvw updates.

Wvw progression and or personal ranking system?

When will ascended gear be introduced as a purchasable item thru wvw?

Any plans to fix the lack luster badge system?

These are just a few of the many things that have been asked about wvw. I know they have a policy not to talk about stuff before it is close to live but come on a little hint wouldn’t hurt.

And as for the whole pve pays the bills the bull crap. As a wvw player I’m broke most the time so when I want bag slots and bank slots and dyes I pony up cash (over a hundred bucks so far) since money gain in wvw is kitten I don’t even mind dropping money since I like the game and will gladly keep dropping money if my form of play is supported.

It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!

Don’t they only have 2 devs for class balance? Kinda makes you wonder how many devs wvw has…..

Certain spots in the maps need to be redesigned, a cliff edge here, a tower of rubble there, an immune wall or two made breakable. There are many minor tweaks needed in wvw on top of major issues like culling and progression. Sadly I’ve already got my hopes up for elder scrolls because of matt firor’s work on daoc.

Gaming companies think that we still want to play against the computer. There’s several hundred thousand of us who keep game hopping hoping for the next good place to get large scale PVP. So far this is ok to good, but it could be a lot better with some focus by Anet.

Agreed

Unless there are hard numbers I’d be careful with throwing around your figures. GW 1 was about 80% PvE and the PvP guys STILL claimed that GW 1 is all about PvP. PvP players have a strange, rather self centered opinion at times …

It would surprise me, actually, if GW 2 had less than twice the amount of PvE players than PvP players.

Im sad to say the answer to the Op is yes. After this patches 180º turn GW2 has come to gross the list of pve mmos. And like all of them, it will fall in disgrace after some short time.

Honestly this game hasn’t been out long enough for anyone to have a valid opinion on what their focus or concerns are.

I have played roughly 80% of all MMORPGs ever made (and several non-RPG MMOs as well).

I can’t think of a single example of where a company switched focus. Once a company goes down the PvE road, all you’ll ever get for PvP is occasional tweaks. In every single case, there are many people like you who state “you need to be patient” and in every single case, they have been wrong, as 6-12 months later the game is a ghost town and PvP concerns were never fully addressed.

In fact, the only game I would say came closest to a focus switch is WOW. WOW launched 100% PvE (they didn’t even launch with battlegrounds) and over time they’ve gradually moved towards more and more PvP attention. They are still a PvE game but not as much as they launched with.

Arenanet seems to be going the opposite direction and they’ll end up like all the other PvE games.

(quoting above post – message lenghts restrictions)

1- Agreed
2- Maps are perfect, objectives perfect. I disagree and obviously you’re generalizing something based on your sole opinion. This is very misleading for the devs and you’re pretty much telling them that everything is horrid and needs redoing. Which is obviously not going to happen, nor is it true.
3- There’s so many points wrong with this that it just makes me feel bad I’m even replying to your stupid post. The only reason I am is because I want to let the devs know not all of us are idiots. If you’ve played any WvW/RvR games before, you’d know that although zerging is an integral part of using pugs to its peak efficiency, it is definitely NOT the sole determining factor in winning or losing.
4- IF you can’t roam in smaller groups, this further valids my point that.. well.. you suck at this game. We roam in small groups all the time; we never and die and we take on groups five or six times our size by effectively outplaying them. Your point is just another stupid generalization. The pacing and dynamics of current WvW is perfect IMO.
5- Agreed
6- Agreed. They did however explained it in another post and ARE working on a fix.
7- LOL. I’d like to see you run with us in a WvW group. You’d be so lost and clueless… group dynamics in this game is pushed to an extreme and the skill cap for group play is almost infinite. Obviously if you think you’re the best already, all you will do and ever do is spam AoE, like any standard zergling thinking that WvW is dumb because they choose to play it dumbly.
8- It’s hard to pinpoint this issue; it’s an opinion issue and you and I will have differences in terms of perspective and how we want this game to be. Both are opinions may be equally valid. I personally think it’s perfect: it leaves smaller guild groups a good chance to flatten zergs. However taking that you’re a zergling, I understand your need to ignore positioning completely and throw all AoE and damage awareness out the window. HOWEVER, this does not invalid your point as it would be stupid to assume EVERYBODY can avoid AoE. I avoid AoE because someone doesn’t, and he takes that damage for me, but this doesn’t change the fact that you are dumbing down the game because you’re simply not that good.
9- Okay dumbest point of all. This game has very few WvW bugs, and none of them are impactful.
10- It’s hard not to agree with you on this one. Although I despise people who play for a title and demand physical progression instead of purely personal and group skill progression, I must admit having physical progression PLUS skill progression would be nice. Getting fat gear, higher WvW rank PLUS getting better at this game would be nice than just getting better at this game. I only included this part because Ascended gear was introduced, and to me, there’s no reason why I couldn’t obtain Ascended gear purely from WvW. They’ve said something vaguely about this, but still, precision would be nice.

11- I completely agree, although I don’t think it will change soon nor does it make me not want to play this game. This system doesn’t reward realmwide organized pushes like we had in other RvR games because even if you cap the entire WvW in one night with one huge push, it doesn’t really reward your server because of the scoring system. This scoring system rewards the server with the highest WvW population throughout the day. It leaves very little chance for underdogs to do anything to avoid losing, because although they may completely dominate during their organized push, that can’t possible play 24/7. For example, in Warhammer, even if Order was constantly winning, Destruction could organize a push night and capture the Order city because of their superior organization. In GW2, however, that’s not possible.
12- What’s wrong with downed?… this is the kind of stupidity that makes devs not want to read forum posts and take community feedback. Just because YOU don’t like it doesn’t mean it’s gamebreaking in any way. I actually enjoy it a lot, not over the rez system but I could not imagine this game without it. Nor is this issue fixable in the near future, so just live with it and use your feeble intellect to focus on more realist subjects of discussion.
13- All players are like NPCs you say? Oh. My. God. Obviously no player names = all players are like NPCs.. right? Although I’d equally like to see player names, this does not mean in any way they are like NPCs. On a sidenote.. please do bring back player names. I’d rather them rage at me than report me for botting. My account has been banned randomly for botting because enemies mass report me for botting after I kill them. This is just a theory, but that would explain why I get banned for botting when I have probably 10x less PVE kills than anyone next to me, and I have 23K WvW kills.
14- Thank god for free transfers. The WvW population has more or less stabilized, and some servers are almost perfect in terms of population. There are still issues, but this was the best decision for the long run. Just because you can’t see the bigger picture doesn’t mean it’s bad. Free transfers did its job, and now the devs are phasing it out. It DID work, whether you can see it or not.

Yeah, sensationalism and hyperbole. Come on, we have no idea what they choose to focus on. It’s not as if we have patch notes to tell us. Stupid Americans.

If you are familiar with any type of product design or refinement then you are aware that they set both long term and short term goals. We barely have enough to scrape together ideas on short term goals, there is no way we have the information to make any decision about their long term goals.

Patch notes are helpful indicators when taken in context over a long period of time. But they can be misleading when cherry picked from individual times. For instance a class could receive plentiful nerfs one patch and then after they data mine their metrics be buffed up in a subsequent patch in such a way that benefits the class as a whole instead of merely specific specs. Say when a class is based around a gimmck that is detrimental to it’s overall balance and the gimmick gets nerfed so the class can be buffed.

The ideas and reasons behind the changes are usually copious, detailed, nuanced, and both short and long term. Insinuating that you understand them at this point in time would be the height of hubris.

By the by I am American myself, Texan to be precise. But undoubtedly the entitlement and willful ignorance runs high in my country as we are taught and indoctrinated into it intentionally. Also to be wrong is the gravest sin in America, second only to not having a specific yes or no opinion. Because apparently you MUST choose a side, informed or not.

Honestly this game hasn’t been out long enough for anyone to have a valid opinion on what their focus or concerns are.

I have played roughly 80% of all MMORPGs ever made (and several non-RPG MMOs as well).

You should change that to 80% of the mainstream MMORPG’s. There are actually an inordinate amount of them of various pay models and quality levels. This also suggests that you are not very detailed in your playtime and understandings because you cannot be sinking much time into a single MMORPG. In short you are a fairly fair-weather MMORPG player and difficult to please. That seems a fair enough assessment.

This is very simple why PVE focused games do not switch focus. Gear. Simple as that. The vast majority of PVE games make gear such an influence on your character that it cannot be overcome with any amount of skill if you are a fresh max level vs a fully kitted out max level. Furthermore even bettering your fresh gear takes incredible amounts of time for each rung up.

Guild Wars 2 is actually fortunate in that regard. The max level gear is easy to get by comparison and makes far less of a difference by comparison. Thus even as a level 30 rolling around in WvW you can make a significant difference. Even better there is always a good mix of gear and levels so things stay varied and competitive on a player power basis.

Also sPVP will never have to worry about gear.

This is a major advantage of Guild Wars 2 in this area. Combined with the fact they have already shown a few balance changes that affected PVE and PVP separately this gives Guild Wars 2 the POTENTIAL to succeed where others have failed.

I’m not saying Yes or No. I’m merely saying this is far too early to judge and we should wait and see.
