Im looking for a open world pvp mmorpg game.
WvW is great but with the current balance and Anet replacing the WvW maps with EOTM 2.0 The game just isnt fun for me anymore. Anyone knows any good games ? Ive tried archeeage but the grinding is just sooo boring. Looked online but couldnt really find anything besides old F2P games with very bad graphiqs and pvp mechanics.

If I remember the last thread about this topic correctly there aren’t any really good.

The only other mmorpg I know of that has a wvw aspect is ESO. but there is only 1 HUGE map and it’s far less rewarding having to run long distances to get to an objective(less rewards for your time as well as less action) and much less organized pugs although maybe things are different I never really got into it. When i played it people would go about doing their own thing roaming is big there since the map is so big but you do get zergs attacking towers and long drawn out battles. Aoe has no hit limit like here in gw2 so that discourages players from being as organized and tight and no commander tag just raid parties.
Graphics wise its ok not as detailed at gw2 and has a trinity system any every class can heal/tank/dps it is also B2p.

Currently only ESO compares, and upcoming Camelot Unchained is being built by DAOC’s creator Mark Jacobs, but it’s still in alpha.

At the moment GW2 has the best action combat, smooth animation, and a non-holy trinity system which many feel is a step forward. ESO on the other hand, you may have some fun in it, it’s larger scaled than borderlands, and siege looks & sounds real. You feel like you’re really on a battlefield out there. But I can’t stand its clunky combat controls and reticle targeting, and sadly smooth animation/controls are so important to me I still find GW2 superior despite its downfalls.

People are waiting on CU(~alpha)/Crowfall (~pre-alpha)/others I don’t remember, Anet’s lucky as there is currently no other good wvw-like game to play.

It’s actually bad for us players that there are no competition. Because if there was, Anet would do more for WvW, and improve it more. Competition drives companies, always have. Lack of competition allows Anet to do the bare minimum and keep things at status quo.

I don’t think Anet’s lucky there’s no competition. I have no doubt they could do more for WvW. But without competition they have no incentive to.

Having played ESO there are a few issues. Yes, it has a large WvW equivalent map, but the skills last time I was on were highly imbalanced. There was also a number of bugs that needed fixing. Then the interface is taken directly from the previous single player game with a few additions such as in game mail, chat and grouping. That makes it more difficult to play and harder to recommend.

Lord of the Rings Online also has a PvP area similar to WvW. Problem is you actually have to level your character there and there can be some ganking issues.

Aeon also has large areas where group PvP is an option. It plays very well but the ganking killed it off for me. It has the bonus of being able to do combat while flying. The issue here is it comes down to who has more healing/flying potions on them.

there is one old game, that most people around dont know called knight online ill give you a quick review with pros and cons before anyone that knows the game or just do a google image impresion says something.

Pros:

-Fast paced combat.
-Gear trend its “fair” but only for certain classes.
-never ending combat zone, only moment when the zone is not able its in the restart day, maintenance.
-Balance system based on rock/scisors/paper, that means you can beat every class with enough practice cough and gear cough but some classes are most likely to win easier vs others,also there is no patch notes to buff/nerf your class, stats are static pretty much
-No critical damage, only rogues can crit, other classes has sustained damage
-Simple, no intricated balance, gear, techniques

-Cons:

-Game is really old and you may know what it means
-Bad graphics if you are used to gw2 , game is really old
-NA servers are crowded with turkish people, that means you gonna get a lot of muslims raging at you for no reason (im not joking here)
-LOTS of glitches
-Korean grinding in both gear and experience (took me weeks from 79 to 80)
-Pay to win in any sense, either gear, a lvl 80 character or power store (yes you can buy the buffs for solo sesions) but its doable for non “cheaters” just gonna take a while, a lot while
-Faction imbalance, this is from any game with factions, wow, tera, etc. But in my experience beign outnumbered in this game is really fun unlike gw2 or wow

Overall i did enjoy the game, i would play it again? no, i got hacked 3 times in 4 years, had fun times, good and bad people, mediocre comunity, its fun if you have a small party to roam and farm

What sells me on this game is the way the characters move and how you can move the camera. It doesn’t feel so locked and game like it feels very fluid and free. Hope they fix the issues of EoTM 2 stuff but other than that until another game looks like this I’m here.

Glad people have formed an opinion about the new map before it is even released and they have spent some actually time playing it. Where can I get a time machine to try the future out?

That was just a weekend, and they only had full maps for about 3 hours during the stream according to what I have read. I don’t think the people that played the map got a good feel of what could be a new meta for WvW. In addition to the new map, they are changing how guild claiming works (not in the beta weekend) and how upgrades work. People need to actual give things a chance before just assuming it’s going to suck (more than just a weekend, heck this is a week long match map).

Would be surprised if people actually start to like it after it has been out a few weeks.

If you dont mind getting away from the “fantasy” theme, there is Eve Online, and Star Citizen.

Eve Online is viscious though, I would say 90%+ of what can be termed as "hard core WvW players here will be comparable to PvE 1 spammers over there and literally run away from it while crying in terror after about 2-3 months.

Star Citizen is still in development, I’m not sure if they still let players / founders into beta or anything since I have not been following it for quite some time.

You won’t find much else right now with a fantasy setting other than ESO and Archeage as mentioned, and CU which won’t be out for a while yet.

Planetside 2 and Eve online are available if you don’t mind the futuristic settings.
Planetside 1 use to be my go to game when I got bored of fantasy mmos.

Camelot Unchained lets alpha and beta backers in all the time now to test. They do a Friday night fight and about every other week have it open all weekend. The announcement for beta stage is suppose to come in September (this month). I can’t really say more at this point. However, as soon as it is open full time you won’t see me here again.

There are a few more games, but they seem to be a rehash of this game for the most part. Best of luck!
