With all due respect, ANet, this is not going to get me play WvW, let alone like it. It just made me drop all legendary aspirations alltogether.
~snip~
This pretty much sums up my thoughts on the matter.
You have the time to get world completion, but spending a few hours in WvW is too much?
It’s not about time spent. It’s about what people like and don’t like. I don’t like WvW, so I don’t play it. And if anyone thinks this will pull people into WvW, perhaps. Statistically speaking there will a percentage of people who will suffer time in WvW to get the GoB. I, for one, won’t. I don’t like WvW and this change won’t make me like it either. You can literally get every single piece of material you need in PvE. Since shards of glory and battle are tradeable, you really don’t need to do the additional game modes; everything you need can be obtained by playing the core game. I spent the time to gain the appropriate rank to be able to buy GoB’s and then left WvW for good. I spent enough time in there to know I don’t like it. BoH’s come to you in due time, so no need to play WvW for that either.
Just make it a craftable item in PvE. Make a recipe that Miyani can sell, like she does for the other gifts, in addition to this reward track system you’ve forced onto it now. I wouldn’t mind having to spend more materials to make an additional gift. I do mind being “forced” into an additional game mode I never play for one single item only, and a fraction of the total requirements for a legendary. And I say “forced” because it’s really my own decision whether I play along or not. And as it is, I’m not playing along with this game. Just like ANet I’ve indefinitely postponed work on legendaries.

Pve is a game mode, and everyone had to do that along with other game modes to make their legendaries, and this change was announced with enough time for people to sort their stuff out. It’s not a good change, I don’t care about legendaries and all that should probabaly be obtainable in pve, but there’s nothing unfair about it.
This change is so crap. Are we forced to join wvw and be active for 10 hours or i don’t know how much it needs to be to get the gift for a legendary?
p.s: I want to scream in rage i can’t believe it we are forced into another grind , again!
!
A drop in the ocean compared to how much pve we are forced to do.
imagine wvw being part of world completion…
I can’t support this… You want to make legendaries, learn to play different game types… perfectly fine with that considering how royally obsolete as a currency Badges of Honor are.
lol how about Anet fix the underline problem with WvW zerg fest before they force their players to play it. Its a superficial way of “improving” numbers in a game type that is boring and not fun to play.
Anet already drove me out of WvW, now that I am interest in PvE content and farming up a Legendary, I now have to go back to a game mode that Linking has made me despise? I foresee many more hours of Overwatch in my future.
They might be get interested in pve with the return of the white mantle, but only for those small mini quests.
Meanwhile, Quake is back lol…who cares about ogrewatch XD, expect quake ESL.

Why couldnt they just have both – the track and the vendor? That way WvWr’s could get them and everyone else could too without having to slog through stuff they aren’t interested in.
It just seems….. unnecessary.
Not real on board with this change, it has essentially time gated a portion of the legendary now.
Before the patch if I had a precursor drop I could check my bank, make a gift of fortune, hop into WvW get my gift of battle, throw it in the forge with my gifts of exploration etc and do the other stuff in a day or two. Time to make a legendary isn’t too long if you already had the gifts of exploration (to which you get 2 per completion).
Now after the patch it takes several hours to get a gift of battle that I could have bought with my 2.5k badges while also preventing my progress on getting other reward tracks. Realistically if I got a precursor today it would be several days before I could make the legendary, even if I played WvW most of the evening and had all the other stuff like dungeon tokens.
Before you ask why my badges are only 2.5k, I made a load of golems, siege and grabbed badges of tribute for my guild to make upgrades. I’m gold rank so not exactly jumping into WvW because I have to either.
This is a bad change, had I even known about this I would have bought 2 for the 2 precursors sitting in my bank and made the gifts of mastery.

imagine wvw being part of world completion…
Even then, the 4 maps with what, like less than 20 poi, vista, hp, that used to be required for world completion… was also a drop in the bucket compared to the amount of pve required.
But PvE won outright and had them removed as a requirement. Somehow, I have a feeling that it’s actually easier to get the gift now with the increased speed of ticks. You will actually get more rewards for the track in the same amount of time played.
A change like this though, seems like a waste of resources. Unless it was super easy for the devs to do, I just don’t see the point. Making a currency less valuable? It would be like removing the exalted cores from AB exalted vendor, and making it a reward at the end of a meta event. Does nothing but reduce the value of the currency.
Has anyone data-mined whether they are adding in something amazing to spend badges of honor on?
If Anet caves to the whims of the pve crowd, then they need to make it so that I don’t have to do pve to get the gift of exploration.
Why force wvw players to play pve???? Give us choices!
Not real on board with this change, it has essentially time gated a portion of the legendary now.
This would add to the already time gated Bloodstone Shard.

Yeah, and just wait until players need 6 GoB for legendary armors…
I’m sitting on 25k badges now just waiting and this will bother me to no end if I have to grind the track over and over and over and over and over and over… Especially if we get bunk linkings and poor match ups.
It feels so good. Hearing PvE kittens complaining.
Oh man you don’t know what a strugle map completion was, getting 500 currency from dungeons, going to that kodan to get icy runestones and above all collection so much gold i nerly quit playing the game. Every moment i’m in PvE is agony.

Btw, this change has been talked about for a few months, especialy after reward tracks came out.
“this change has been talked about for a few months”. In PvE guilds? Nopes. Not a single person in any of my guilds had any idea about this change until they read today’s patch notes.
I know it’s a biiit hard to see, since the post is seriously the length of a shorter book, it all looks TINY.. However, if you look waaaaaay down there there is 1 sentence mentioning this change. I highlighted it for you, but it turned out so small so I had to add an arrow and a text next to it aswell for it to be visible at all. It’s still hard to see but yeah; you’ll find it I’m sure.
The “upcoming changes to items required to craft legendaries” is listed as a footnote under WvW—REWARD TRACKS (Beta).
Which most people that aren’t all that into WvW will skip past since it doesn’t mention things that interest them.
Had it been under LEGENDARY ITEMS/CRAFTING I would’ve been more likely to have caught it.
The change itself would’ve been fine, if the information about it coming was more clear.
But enjoy your new “PvE only stats” in WvW. Since ArenaNet doesn’t want to force you to play PvE for them.. Since that wouldn’t be nice. Peace.

I’m all for options for “stuff” and have complained enough about the lack said options si I agree with you.
Don’t single out the “pve” crowd here, all sorts of players go for legendaries.

nah you just have to dedicate 48 hours to WvW just max out the participation and do small events and afk. It would be a nice one up to the WvWers when people just occupy the maps and do nothing.
I’ve never made a Legendary before, so am I able to put one together now doing WvW only?
No! Even if you manage to get everything you need for it on WvW only (which can be done) you would still need PvE Map Exploration for them.
@ArchonWing, @CaptainCaveman, the problem is not how to get it. Even in the most extreme case, like Najten, where the playing is very sporadic and short, getting there is a matter of time. We play WvW, we’ll get there eventualy.
The problem is those like Shanks R Us, and me, that already played enough WvW and saved enough badges to get the gift we wanted, but got penalized for managing inventory space by keeping currency “in cash”.
Some of us are done playing WvW and wouldn’t like going back to it, some of us even played WvW ONLY for those badges. Doesn’t matter the case, those player (us) feel robbed of their efforts towards the Gift of Battle.
What happened here is clear, there was an intention to change a currency that was very poorly communicated. And that is even for us, that care enough to come here, read patch notes and talk about it. How many more players are only going to figure this out once they get their 500 badges and look for that NPC with no success?
For everyone else, you can convert your badges of honor into Badges of Tribute (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Badge_of_Tribute) and sell them on the Black Lion Trading Post for some gold, but the price has been dropping steadly since the update, so you might want to consider your options: https://gw2efficiency.com/currencies/badges-of-honor
Seems like it is our fault for playing the game and missing the small print in the biggest update log ever. Good communication job devs, well done! And I even watch Points of Interest every week, not like I am not following what you guys do…. Screw me anyway, I suppose. =/
Their communication remains shocking with items such as this. There should have been at least 2 days advance notice that this was going to happen.

yes they would. if you enjoy WvW you played it before, and youll play it now, only now you have passive reward tracks to put icing on the cake. if you hated WvW, youre still going to hate WvW and making a thing a reward track that takes weeks or months is not going to make someone like it. You cant force enjoyment of something and making it MANDATORY is bullkitten.
we’ve already done the work to earn the Badges of Honor,
Yes, many work, very effort, WOW!
You’re gotta be kidding me with this argument…
I had to spend nearly 3 days in WvW to reach rank 14 so I could buy gifts of battle. That was 3 days longer than I wanted to spend there.
I absoluely detest WvW if you couldn’t already tell.
forum bug… I dislike you
Many us already earned the “Gift of Battle”. After thousands of hours in WvW, I know I certainly have. You Anet should not remove my ability to claim my rewards without prior notification. My rewards should be Grandfathered in and as such the vendor should be returned as soon as the next patch comes out. For the reward track, that’s fine to leave it in going forward.
Originally I really did think this was a stupid change…… but all these salty pve player tears are making it so worth it.
After thousands of hours of WvW, I earned many “Gifts of Battle”. Removing what I already earned is the larger issue. The reward track is fine. The issue is the vendor needs to be returned.
If Anet caves to the whims of the pve crowd, then they need to make it so that I don’t have to do pve to get the gift of exploration.
Why force wvw players to play pve???? Give us choices!
If they could think up a way to spend the same ammount of time and effort that it takes to do full map completion in WvW, I would not mind this one bit.
In fact, “complete these specific 100 WvW Reward Tracks to obtain a Legendary”, go for it. As a PvE:er I couldn’t care less. The only requirement I’d have is that it takes the same effort and relative costs, no matter what game mode. But I do not like being “forced” to do WvW to “unlock” something I already unlocked. It’s utter BS.
I support ANet’s generic goals here; I can’t get behind their implementation at all — it feels arbitrary and capricious instead of reasoned and well-planned.
There are two distinct issues here:
(1) Did ANet do a good job of letting people know that this change was coming?
I have to agree with all the critics for notification: ANet did a terrible job of keeping us posted. First, the only warning was in the patch notes and it was based on when the WvW reward system exited BETA — no date was provided, not even a vague one. Second, I read just about everything and (a) I forgot about that warning and (b) don’t remember ANet letting us know exactly when the WvW reward system would go fully LIVE. Sure, it’s my mistake that I didn’t buy some Gifts of Battle earlier — it’s also ANet’s poor judgment (imo) that they didn’t blog about this twice (once as a generic, undated heads up and more recently as an announcement of a significant mechanic change affecting primary-PvE players).
(2) Should playing WvW be required to complete a legendary? And if so, is a reward track the best way to do that?
My general feeling is: yes, they should be; getting a legendary should cover all aspects in the game.
However, specifically, I think they handled it poorly. First, we don’t have to PvP for weapons, so why is WvW special?
Second, why change it now? Tens of thousands of people (perhaps 100,000s?) didn’t actually need to WvW, since we could originally just buy the gift with AP-reward-given tokens (and a lot of people had r14 without significant time investment). It seems arbitrary & capricious, especially without ANet taking the time to explain themselves ahead of time.
Third, the use of the reward track is … unusual. There’s nothing comparable like it for other legendary gifts — we don’t need dungeon master to buy dungeon-specific gifts, for example.
At this point, my preference is that ANet revert this change and go back to the drawing board, returning in six months with a road map for how they are going to change requirements for legendaries to include more investment in more aspects of the game. I support the idea; I can’t support this haphazard implementation.
Pls revert back the change. We have already done our part in wvw to obtain those badges. Why do we need to do a reward track which was never part of the legendary (in whichever modes -pve,spvp,wvw) to obtain a legendary now?
If Anet caves to the whims of the pve crowd, then they need to make it so that I don’t have to do pve to get the gift of exploration.

It’s the overwhelming majority, let’s not kid ourselves.
So because I missed a single patch note in April, I’m screwed over on the work I’ve put into this so far.
Is there anything that’s going to happen a month from now? Say, strip away the T6 material requirement and put in two new collections that have to be completed in structured PvP only?
I ask because apparently casually reading these things isn’t good enough.
But enjoy your new “PvE only stats” in WvW. Since ArenaNet doesn’t want to force you to play PvE for them.. Since that wouldn’t be nice. Peace.
Yeah, that’s the real irony of the update.
They mentioned at the start of beta that they would remove the gift of battle vendors and add it to the reward tracks once they were out of beta.
Did they ever tell us when reward tracks would come out of beta testing though? Because I don’t remember them telling us that on June 14th the beta testing would end. Yes everyone should have read the notes and known that this change was eventually coming. But honestly how were people supposed to know it would happen today? I’m not trying to argue to bring back the merchant, just playing devils advocate
Get a build and join a zerg and have fun! Wvw is the most fun part of the game.
That’s entirely subjective. A lot of players don’t like WvW, and of those that do there is still a substantial amount that don’t like blob wars. Some of them participate because they feel that there is no other real way to quickly up your contribution and earn lots of reward track progress right now. But that doesn’t mean they enjoy doing it
I honestly don’t mind of having this gift of battle reward track, but I feel like the hours that I grinded in wvw before to get enough for my future legendaries are now useless…. I hope that Anet will bring back the NPC :c

….what?
If someone can get 500 badges of honor through playing WvW in order to gain progress on their reward track which reward track do you think they are going to pick? The one that rewards them with the exact same item that they were farming the badges of honor for? Or a different reward track that will give them a unique skin and other more useful items? No one is going to run the gift of battle reward track if they were allowed to just buy the gift of battle. It just doesn’t make sense to waste your time like that
Well I never bothered about wvw since I’m playing on one of the worsts wvw servers. With server merge change it got a bit better but still wasnt interested in wvw much, thats why I rarely bothered reading wvw notes so I just missed the info about this change. (anyway I feel that this note should be made under general since gift of battle is not only WvW thing)
Tho I play wvw rarely I ammased like 4k badges which I feel are worthless now since there is nothing I’d want from it. I dont ask to bring back the NPC since it prob wouldn’t happen but at least give us an option to spend badges to buy potions. Let it even be 800-1k badges for potions needed to max out reward track. So that we dont feel like our previous efforts are meaningless now.
Whats more forcing at least some PvE players to do WvW will prob hurt WvW as well :C (ekhm old map completion, ekhm Gift of Battle farm groups ~year after gw2 release)
(edited by Gibon.1705)
You have the time to get world completion, but spending a few hours in WvW is too much?
World completion is actually fun and you get to explore the world. WvW is just zerg around its a snooze fest. Again instead of trying to force players into the wvw maps improve the game play they attempted with the new WvW map with HoT release and they failed so they scrapped the new maps. Their attempts to make WvW fun so far has failed so all that is left to do is force players to participate.
Get a build and join a zerg and have fun! Wvw is the most fun part of the game.
That’s crap. I already posted in the other thread, but like I said there, I’ve earned over 1,500 badges YEARS ago, almost EXCLUSIVELY from playing solo. Following a blue dot and hitting 1 may be fun to you, but a lot of us don’t feel the same way. Playing solo, it would take a hell of a long time to get something I feel I am entitled to. The only reason I didn’t already buy the gift was because it would be a waste of inventory space. Now, just because of that, I have to go back and redo everything?
No. That’s crap.
Gw2 is not a solo game. If you want to play alone it is not your game

I play PvP with a team of 5. I can choose to play WvW alone or with 1-2 friends. Why should I be forced to play the game the way you do, when I consider it to be boring? WvW is only as fun as PvP because you can use skill to win. If you force me to zerg alongside you, it takes that away. Whoop dee doo, your blob can press 1 more times than the other blob.
Tho I play wvw rarely I ammased like 4k badges which I feel are worthless now since there is nothing I’d want from it.
You don’t want gold? They can be converted to siege and either sold or upgraded to superiors and sold for even more.
Now more players who are not built for, or more importantly, CARE for, WvW will mindlessly farm EotM for the reward track. I don’t see how the WvW gameplay quality would be improved.

The whole point is that doing this essentially robs those of us who used to play WvW avidly but no longer do so. I’m rank 141 in WvW, but that means NOTHING as far as anet is concerned when it comes to getting a legendary.
Why do we care what track anyone picks? We suffered through enough of WvW to get thousands of badges of honor to make legendary weapons, not because we want to play WvW or care about any tracks.
This thread isn’t about whether this change is good for WvW. It’s about the rewards we worked to achieve there, and how they are worthless to us now. We got them for one purpose and now that purpose is gone, and our opportunity to use them is now gone, simply because of exceptionally poor communication on Anets part.
Totally disgusted. Time to look for a new game.
When there are so many things that players want from GW2 why do ANet waste development time on things that serve NO purpose. There was nothing wrong with the old system – nobody complained, no-one was up in arms.
Stop messing with things that don’t warrant a change and ripping people off on the gem store and give us some content – either new, or stuff that you have promised to deliver before and haven’t.
All this will accomplish is making the blobs bigger for every server. Blob vs blob fighting isn’t fun, neither us killing walls and npcs to take camps.
Roaming doesn’t give enough participation and fighting condi roamer builds isn’t fun – as this is all every roamer runs.
I wouldn’t mind being forced to do WvW if it was FUN. it isn’t fun though, because it encourages blobbing HARD and punishes you for trying to do small scale roaming because of condi stealth specs and perplexity runes.
If this change is going to remain in the game, make, please make WvW fun. That’s all I ask. I just want to have FUN.

Now more people will run in wvw maps without being built for, or care for, doing WvW in an organized way. That would actually ruin my WvW experience. I don’t see why a WvW-er would be happy about it.
I think it’s a bad idea. During this beta, I’ve already witnessed some reward track farmers performing as few tasks as possible just enough to keep their participation ticking. Gating more items behind reward tracks might not necessarily help WvW become better.
Anet is constantly “fixing” things that were never broken(Skill point and book trainer system, guild influence system, etc.) This is just another example of changing something that didn’t need to be changed.
