Give us back WvW
H A R D (CORE) Gunnar’s hold http://lastflightofthecrow.webs.com/
If the arena in the guild halls is big enough for 15v15/20v20 you will rarely see GvG guilds in WvW as it will be so much easier to get a GvG / Scrim every day as you can invite players from other servers into your guild hall for a GvG.
Also those players doing the GvG/Scrim on the map are keeping other players busy that would be potentially steamrolling through the pug group and not letting you do the PPT
PPT and karma trains are different things. True WvW player dont want gvg guilds to “keep other players busy” true WvW player want to fight em. Plying responsibly defending your objectives, controlling supply lines gives best fight in WvW, you should know that.

Don’t argue with idiots, they pull you down their level and own you with experience.
Why should somebody care about PPT, if matches are decided only by numbers and coverage?
Because even with that its more fun to actually fight over objectives, not cap empty towers and keeps. Even in defeats players can have some fun.

From what I’ve seen of the upcoming changes, I think it shows that Anet isn’t going to fix that side of WvW – to make it more competitively balanced.
They have never bothered with things such as night capping or population imbalance.
It seems like they think adding more gimmicks is the answer, they do not take WvW seriously, so we shouldn’t.

I feel exactly what this post is about. theres such a huge rift between those who want to play wvw as a team and strategy game vs everyone else.
as for the ppt = coverage argument… we dont care. we still gonna fight hard and play our best. we understand the situation and how glicko works but what we strive for is ending the day and being proud what we did.
Once expansion hit in and guild halls start to roll, are we gonna be able to play WvW properly?
To enter battlegrounds fight and kill any guys with red names over their heads, to capture and defend towers and keeps, to use siege and roam around, to be organized in small or big groups, to have your guild go out and play WvW to defend place we claimed with any means necessary, without any judgement.
To do all that without having bunch of “veterans” “guilds” “guild leaders” “pro mad skillz (watch me on twitch) roamers” bashing at you, cursing you and telling you not to do all that because you add up in 1vs1, interrupt their duels, gvg’s, scrimms, because you are danger that server might win matchup and rise up in rank, _________________________ type in all other stupid reasons.
Once upon a time WvW was place where u played with your team, helped you team, played for win, where u fought and killed reds with your team members. Now all i see is WvW turning into personal battlegrounds for individuals where team players are liability.
I just hope that people who dont want to play wvw can take thier duels, gvg’s, scrimms to some other place like guild hall arenas and leave wvw to those that want to play it like it was meant to. The OP claims to be a real wvw player but really has no idea what that means.
And please rename this http://www.gw2wvw.net/ to http://www.gw2gvg.net/ ty bye
There is no way to play WvW “properly” and this guy has rose-tinted glasses on regarding “once upon a time”. SINCE RELEASE WvW has been a sandbox PvP environment with players playing WvW in many different ways, not the way the OP wants them to.
This guy ignores that there are different types of units in an RTS with different roles. He wants everyone to play WvW as an RTS where there’s only one type of role, the one he defines. Lame because that’s not how RTS works. Claims to be a “real wvw” player but really has no idea what he’s talking about. Ironically the coming updates to WvW and guild halls with HoT are going to make WvW unrecognizable from dreamworld OP seems to live in.
I’d give more consideration of what else the OP wrote but it really isn’t worth it. OP is just looking to stir up drama.

One reason guilds fight in the open field to avoid the plague of siege in keeps and towers. Avoid building 100,000 pieces of siege on each wall and many of them would be happy to bring their fighting into the objectives.

“Duels, gvgs, scrimms” are not mutually exclusive with the above. Attempting to fracture the community will weaken it. Attempting to vilify people that do these things is dishonest.
There is nothing to give back, and nobody to give it back to. WvW is meant for all people with a copy of Guild Wars 2 with an account in good standing. Attempting to claim otherwise is selfishness and also futile. I am glad Arenanet is moving along with the flow, and reaching out for ways to expand its game mode beyond its original intentions to fit the development of the player base. They are not taking anything away from anyone, rather they are adding more things for people. Whether or not people appear in wvw is up to their own choice regardless if they fit anyone’s definition of playing.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.

u get it “back” its just better maps the event in middle will be like stonemist in borderland
Or you can just ignore thier, bashing and do as you please. If a zerg comes in and wipes everyone out, it’’s thier right to do so. If you want to interupt duels then go ahead. kill them. it’s not thier place only. you cap lands. that’s what you do. if they wanna duel. then it’s thier risk they are taking. u are not obliged to wait for thier duels to finish. it’s thier job to maintain that area so that they can duel.

Well he could do that, but of course that has repercussions, for example if he interrupts my 1v1, then cries for roamers to help defend his upgraded camp some time later, guess what, he isn’t getting any help, which is my right to do so, same for a blob interrupting a couple of guilds having an open field fight, sure he could do it, but then he might find that when his beloved garrison is attacked that guild decides not to help, which is their right to do so.

These sort of things is what OP and others are arguing against.
Sure sandbox, sure open world do whatever…
It wouldn’t be a problem except there’s these self limiting queue’s. Think the word right now is around 80 people per side? When 20 – 40 people on a queued map “decide they don’t want to play WvW” anymore just forget it… time to log onto an alt account heh.

No, not really. The OP is saying that he should be allowed to interrupt duels and that sort of stuff if OP deems them to not be playing WvW “properly”. This OP is going to be the same guy coming here to cry on the forums about losing stuff with queued maps when all the duelists and GvG players start using guild halls.

I respectfully disagree. WvW is a structured competition with very clear objectives. So much so that hours of coding, mapping, and adjustments to LOS were gone over painstakingly to create its environment. That was not done haphazardly. It was done to attract the very large player-base that competitive play appeals to.
If I was on a server that had battle ques I would also be upset if a large body of people were blocking my teammates from entering the battlefield because “they” were using the environment for “selfish reasons” to GvG or 1v1.

If all goes well we won’t have to avoid duels and scrims in WvW at all. I know some people enjoy reading rage tells for interrupting what others have deemed an “off limits fight” but I’d rather see it all taken to OS or these upcomming arena’s.
You should just be able to /duel or /duelbet on any pve map you want to. I loved that about EQ2.

Yep. WvW is going to fundamentally change IMHO, at least in the higher tiers. Roamers/duelists/etc. have already been a dying breed in WvW because those players were looking for “open world PvP” and found that WvW was a rather hostile environment for that sort of thing. Guild halls are going to be their sanctuary: sandbox PvP with PvE ruleset. It will still be a loss for the other kind of WvW player, the kind of player who only wants the so-called “PPT productive” activity in WvW. Being “PPT productive” sometimes doesn’t include a lot of PvP and my bet is that what you need to do in the new WvW to be “PPT productive” will include more PvP.
So how will it be a loss? The new map doesn’t look to support the kind of larger zerg on zerg battles. Players won’t be able to group up and spam 1 so easily now. To be “PPT productive” in the new map may mean a lot more smaller scale fights. So all those roamers/duelists/small-mans who played WvW for the PvP are going to be missed.

WvW is NOT a competition. A “competition” involves a struggle between equals or at least a match in fair terms.
CurrentWvW results are determined by population coverage, and the final scores on every matchup are more or less aguaranteed. GvG and dueals are the only things remotely close to “competition” in WvW.
“Playing WvW properly”………that joke never gets old.
Mmo players with a screw loose vs mmo players with two screws loose. All very important stuff.

Well I sure hope the new map will have some decent keep sieges and largish zergs. Why won’t it be good for large fights?
I’d be all for it leaning more twords groups of 20s / 30s but if the caps are the same why won’t blobs still be used?
“Playing WvW properly”………that joke never gets old.
This work both ways. Don’t tell the PPT peeps that they are playing it wrong either….. As Chaba said earlier, there is no right way (even though some of Chaba’s server mates think there is a wrong way )
The only “right” way is the way you as a person enjoy the game. Other people may not find that way fun at all, but they aren’t wrong…..
Edit:
Well there is 1 wrong way – hackiNg and cheating…..

My server is often out numbered but has managed to keep a rank that contradicts that statement. I will agree 24/7 player coverage is very much an issue facing many lower WvW pop servers including mine, but to trivialize the efforts of the WvW community as a whole reflects that you are either party to those that use the battle grounds but don’t WvW, or your server is really suffering and your pretty bitter about it. That would be my guess. Again just a guess but I still stand by my first post because I sincerely believe it to be so.

From what I’ve seen of the new map so far, there are more choke points for objectives. Nothing chews zergs up more or creates long stand-offs than choke points. To be “PPT effective”, you’ll have to split up more. Because while your blob is held up at a choke in a stand-off, you’ll be losing your own objectives to smaller groups.

Eh, I think we’ll stay http://www.gw2wvw.net we have a pretty strong community on both wvw and gvg (and I expect the gvg to get even stronger, but not at the expense of wvw)
