How is the zerg on your tier?
Ruins of Surmia
The reasons that there are zergs in every server and every tier is that it’s efficient and often necessary.
Larger groups usually win the big fights. You may think, yeah, well my 20-man guild group wiped a 40-man zerg… great, so how much easier would it have been if you were in a 40-man zerg of your own?
On top of that, large zergs have on-demand portals, veils, pulls/knockbacks/warding/other cc, might stacks, healing fields, swiftness, retaliation, protection, regeneration, condition removal, condition stacking, siege equipment (both normal and superior) and supplies to build/fully repair just about anything.
The reasons to not run a zerg include:
-Slower response times, (but the zerg has perma-swiftness, so this is only really a problem when the enemy server golem-rushes a keep and you con’t have a waypoint nearby while you’re on the opposite side of the map)
-An organized opponent splitting their forces to hit multiple objectives (but, to be honest, this is pretty rare because the mega 80+ man zergs just roll through one group, then go roll the other group almost every time (if they have good scouts))
-Siege has a huge AoE cap (not really a problem for zergs unless they’re looking at 8-10, or more, manned (superior) arrow carts that can’t be hit from outside the tower/keep. This doesn’t happen too often, as it requires enough people to stay close to the tower/keep to man the siege at a moment’s notice.
So, without any big issues to deter the zergs, the only thing limiting them is needing scouts to tell the zerg where it’s needed, and the map’s population cap.
edit: Just to be perfectly clear, I don’t particularly enjoy the zergfest. Having small 2v2, up to 10v10 engagements is much more fun (even if you’re a little outnumbered), right up until your 5-10 man group finds an enemy 60+ man group.

So you’ve done it. You put 150 in a zergball on every map and now have won the score. So what? “You” taking credit for this is literally taking credit for other peoples accomplishments. In fact you didn’t win anything. All that was gained was a weeks worth of crappy, boring, one sided fights. So why do people waste time doing it? Do you enjoy empty pvdoor, enjoy punching babies, or perhaps its because you’re afraid if the numberswere equal you just might lose.
Now the wexp system has put a real reward on chasing solos from zone wall to zone with as many people as a commander tag can gather but so what. Now you just have a title which everyone agrees is completely meaningless.

After the patch, in every tier, people tend to join the zerg more for the sake of leveling their rank because zerging from one objective to another objective (WxP zergball train) is the best way to increase your rank quickly.
Look at how much WxP gotten from capping keeps and SMC, plus the WxP obtained from zerg vs zerg battle.
If you tend to run solo or join a small group (less than 5) capping camps like what I tend to do, you won’t get Major rank (lvl 70-79 rank) by now.
If you roll with the WxP zergball train every day since the first day they introduced the WxP, you will get, at least, Major rank by now.

Ive killed far more zergs than have killed me. Id still rather have competitive even numbered fights. Which are not going to happen if no one leaves the zerg and gets better.

Many servers have zergs. (May not be 80v80 in T8, though it might be comparable to what their wvw participation is for the tier.)
Some servers ask and even have to beg at times to get smaller groups to break off to run havoc, or even ninja towers/keeps.
Plus the wxp deal…many just want to zerg to get wxp quicker.

Thankfully, on T1 EU there is no zerging at all. Being honourable chaps and chapettes we simply do en-masse 1v1, the losers logging off and the winners /sit until the battles are over. Whichever side has the most people remaining wins and then logs off for the shame of having more players left, whilst the losing side also logs off for losing.
Naturally, if one Server is 1v1’ing another server and a 3rd server happens upon the disagreement, the 3rd server will log off.
