IF WvWvW is to be 24/7/365......
This is the only logical answer.
yeah! lets all get +100 ms latency!!
bad idea is bad
Not like latency matters much atm with all of the culling/rendering problems. Piling everyone onto the same servers would be hilarious IMO.
I already have much worse ping than 100ms and I cope just fine.
Overreaction is overreaction.
I can see this happen.
Everyone shows up in the same keep (Die hard explosion)
i did’nt ment to say 100 ms total.. i ment, AND EXTRA 100ms..
i already play with 280ms.. i really dont want to play wth 380ms..
its very bad.. my skills take a lot of time to fire.. its specialy bad for Ground target spells.. you never land it when the enemy is below..
i find myself charging the nothingness 60% of the time.. all my root(trow bolas/trow axe/trow gs) miss.. becouse my enemy is nowere near were i shot them..

Your situation is not the same as all other players.
You should not project your problems on to others, and then use that fallacy in discussions about solutions.
Besides, nobody said you had to change servers. I imagine someone with such bad latency would find the best possible server for them, regardless of the time zone.

@Wolve: While I agree that universal servers would have benefited WvW, there are two obvious explanations for the solution ANet chose:
1. Regional server parks keep the ping rate low and allow for a more responsive connection. As you know, nobody likes lag.
2. Some servers are tagged because of the language barrier, which is actually quite important to many players. Blame the Babylonians.

I don’t believe they need regional servers in all honesty. We deal with the latency fine playing on US servers from the southern hemisphere. Not for WvW, PvE or sPvP.
The only time I can think latency would really matter is if/when sPvP tournaments start this whole eSport thing. Even then, I’m not really one to comment on that as I have no intention of doing it.

Latency will be higher but it won’t be bad. You consider games like Lord of the Rings Online who now host all servers in the US after taking the business back from Codemasters and it works fine.
One could argue that it would favour players closer to the physical servers. However, even with the higher latency, if you play in typical hours for your timezone, you will largely be competing with players who are subject to the same latency as well.
I mean if you take Oceanic players as an example, any American player has a ping advantage but this advantage probably irrelevant because they don’t play at the same time.
+1 on the language barrier fact :
many people in the world speak another language than English.
So they created regional servers : FR, DE or ES
And all these regional servers are in the same timezone, hence the necessity to create some EU servers with approximately the same timezone to fight with them
Beneficial for everyone : less ping, approximately the same prime time (no matter what people say, it was clearly visible on the queue length graphs)
heh you do not get it…The servers stay the same, meaning French speak french etc….but we all play against one another……Guilds have the option to move to a french speaking server if they so choose. Let the guilds decide, but do not have regional zone match ups. Make everyone fight everyone. Pings by today standards are not an issue in WvWvW, we are all lagging in there no matter what zone you are in
US to EU only adds 10-20ms. Not sure how bad it is the other way around. This is how WvW should have been set up. The language barrier would have partially fixed itself due to time-zones. Unfortunately it is too late for this solution now.
If it’s gonna be 7/24 there should be no regions. ANet should pick one of these
7/24 and regions never co-exist. It doesn’t work.
Make one ranking shared by all servers, and see how people start to merge each other and create 7/24 forces on many servers (not just 2)

Language Barrier is just an excuse. How Polish, Russian, Korean players play this game without their language servers?
Physical distance doesn’t have a whole lot to do with latency. Some guy living in the same city the servers are located in might very well have worse latency than someone connecting from halfway around the world.
And MMOs are written with latency in mind anyway. That’s why they have features like allowing you to queue commands.

FR, ES, DE server are on only 1 timezone. It would be impossible for them to compete with and International server.
The idea of mixing all server would be great only if there were “International servers”.
The population would be (in theory) from various mixed timezones, in all servers.
And in reality, community will actually regroup on servers, such as our Russian friends which have settled on Far Shiverpeaks. So we would probably be in the same situation as right now, or maybe worse!

No it’s not.
When a video games editor release Regional speaking servers with fully translated game content, it’s because they know it will attract more people to the game than it if was only in English.

That’s really unlikely.
Of course physical distance impact latency!
Given the same kind of connection, it’s the only thing that differs : More distance = more routers HOP = more latency

You must have not used your brain when you wrote this. There already are problems with night capping! Why on earth would a EU server face a US server? First off the ping would be horrible, secondly US is 6 hours behind so they cap us while we sleep… Please think next time you post something like this lol
@iiMulch sorry you are so slow to understand this, there is no such thing as night capping according to Arena net WvWvW is 24/7/365…………..
It would probably be better to keep regional servers for PvE, since that’s not really a 24/7 affair. But perhaps multiple servers across different worldwide regions could be grouped together to act as a single alliance in WvW?
I dunno, anything to get more equivalent 24/7 coverage throughout the w3 matchups.
(edited by Redundancy.7325)
@redundancy again you are not getting it No offense, it is simple the server would still be called french, german etc….trying to collect the ppl who speak the language to those server, BUT since there is no cross server communication, why not simply have all servers fight each other in WvWvW. This would not impact PvE at all.
Simply said remove the 2 world ranking system and combine them into one. Then if guilds WANT to (voluntary) they can move to any server with any language of their choice….this will allow servers to balance out over time on their own.
I speak german, but am American, I also speak some french (note the word some). So I could get by with my guild on one of those servers as it’s rep and translate as needed if we were to move there by our own choice….
Make one Server listing, allow guilds to pick and choose, keep the servers as they are based on language, but make it one WvWvW pool……..and all things will balance out.
Please keep discussion of night capping and 24/7 servers to this thread. Thank you.
