Is new mod enforcement for WvW?
Almost differently aimed at the wvw forum and they don’t want to hear about anything we say because wvw is “casual”

Really doesn’t help very much without an example of what constitutes a “personal attack”.
Also, I thought we were going to have open and frank discussions according to that talk with Chris, rather than more moderation.
And most of these “personal attacks” r aimed at the people who are presented as bring in charge. The people in charge are the people who should be called out.

I just made this same post at the same time…lol I agree…I would like a better definition of personal attack…

I just sent a PM to the person that posted the enforcement announcement asking for this. Given the past moderation decisions observed on this forum, I am not sure I want to ‘guess’ as to what they view as a personal attack.
Or maybe it have to do with the fact that there have been massive amounts of these kind of attacks the last few days/weeks and now they finally had enough?
I doubt it has anything at all to do with Leagues starting soon.

Personally I think leagues are a great idea. But that said I feel that there needed to be a lot done before leagues should have started. So I’m going off that this season is a test run for what could be a great idea. As most of the current complaints are on the subject of population and mass transfers to “top” servers. I think anet needs to figure out how to adjust population and equal out servers for each league. I’m sure it’s quite easier said than done, plus I feel they dug them selves into a hole on that front.
Either way, I have to agree that they are preparing for a onslaught of QQ threads and complaints. I don’t blame them, some of the threads now are/were bad, I can only see them getting worse. Just think about the people that stayed on servers that have no chance in winning, good on them for sticking it out but still it sucks.
To the mods, I hope you read the threads carefully. There has been quite a few threads that had some really constructive and positive feed back that got completely deleted due to a couple of “bad eggs”. Good luck on your front when seasons start.

I think the “You have been warned” was a tad unprofessional. It sounds a bit like a parent reprimanding a child. As others have stated, I would have liked to see a clarification on what constitutes a “personal attack” as well as clear instructions on what a player should do if they are feeling harassed or attacked by a staff member. People tend to lash out on the forums when there aren’t any other avenues where they feel their issues will be actually addressed.

They happen because of their actions….
Granted (myself included) we shouldn’t be going after specific developers…which we aren’t…. but someone who is the head of WvW and in charge of the team….he’s the guy making the choices….and when he makes bad one’s….that we don’t agree with….are we not allowed to say anything?! How about you just do a better job and you don’t have to institute a silly policy…
I get not calling him slurs….etc…. but I mean we can we even joke around with him anymore? lol

Below is what the CoC actually says. It doesn’t say we can’t disagree or provide negative feedback.
Be respectful. Be pleasant to forum members, staff members, and moderators.
Do not use profanity, insults, or personal attacks. If you have a problem with another member, contact a moderator.
Do not engage in staff call-outs. Using the words “ArenaNet” or any staff member’s name will not expedite the answer to your query.

I’m assuming they want specific people (Devs) not to be called out for things we have a issue with. Which frankly is unnecessary, addressing the issues directly with out calling X person out should be enough. Some of the comments I’v read here have been quite ruthless regarding some things…

We can’t call out anet itself!?!?!?!?!?!

How about in game? I love to tease those guys!
I don’t think this is aimed at WvW forums in particular at all…
The sPvP forums have loads of hostile posts and all the individual character class forums have loads of way over the top posts calling Anet/individual staff members.
Anyone permanently banned will just post on Reddit or other non official GW2 sites instead…a lot of players already do, avoiding this forum completely because of over the top moderation.

It says do not use staff call-outs, and that those words won’t expedite your answer. You can say “arenanet” sure, as long as what you are saying isn’t a violation i.e. profane, insulting, disrespectful, or a personal attack.

This. I got the same feeling reading that line. It’s an indication of their attitude towards their customers.

This also. Is it ok to say, “the devs are fools for doing XXX,” for “the devs are delusional if they think players want XXX” ?
The moderation in these forums is already way over the top. Looks like this “Collaborative Development” is going to end up being simply being players affirming that the game is going in the right direction.
It’s too bad because this forum is one of the nicest looking forums UI-wise I’ve seen — very clean, simple, and clear. Whoever created it did a really good job (though I’ve never gotten the “+1” feature to work). Reddit hurts my eyes!
yes…
so let’s just let it fail and whither
They want to play hard ball here… let ’em see where it ends up by the end of the season.
We’re creative people, we don’t need their forum to have our voices heard by the rest of the community. The GW community never operated on the graces of a few dev’s whims. It was always independent and it can be again.
It is actually a sad move. Hopefully someone starts using a new forum where people can post as they see fit. I understand that the attacks rang too true for ANET, but this is not the solution.
It’s ironic that this is being implemented at the same time as the new collaborative development thing.
There are good and bad people at every company. It is not a negative to call out which are which.
Oh come on now.
Do people really feel like they NEED to post PERSONAL ATTACKS against devs and if they can’t the forum is bad? Seriously?

@ style:
For individual server… there should already be separate forums. I know ours has one.
For general discussion… most of it including the vast bulk during beta and prior to GW2’s development, happened at: http://www.guildwars2guru.com/forum/
Their moderating tends to be a lot more bureaucratic (for better or worse)
@ Krall: see this thread:

It’s already begun which means this thread is next.
It was nice talking to you guys … shame the only way some of us will be be conversing now, will be with emotes in a borderland. See you there!

As long as ANet labels common mentioning of a dev (or ANet in general) as personal attacks, yes, this is over-moderation.

The forum is already over-moderated and highly censored. Much of what the censor is simply criticism. This is simply a excuse for them to use to ban people who are critical.
It’s like passing extremely easy-to-break laws in order to harrass specific groups that you wish to target.

You mean as long as ANet enforces the rules that have been on these forums since day one?
They have stated every since release that shout-outs to specific devs or employees will not be okay. It is not something new.

It has nothing to do with it being like reprimanding a child. You have been warned, plain and simple. If you don’t like it, well then don’t post.
This is joke, the forums is pretty much a place for Anet yesmen now. And I almost believed (20%), that they ment the collaborative development part.

Hello all,
I’ll help clarify. We have been receiving a lot of personal attacks on the forums, in PM, and via the Appeals system. Martin’s post and Regina’s follow up are pretty clear.
You can give all the negative feedback you wish, as long as you’re not name-calling, making threads, or things such as “you need to be fired”.
You are welcome to say “I do not like X because of Y”, or state your opinion about gameplay and mechanics.
It’s pretty simple. We are not tolerating personal attacks on our staff on the forums, in PM, or via the Appeals system.
