"Jumping puzzle is useless" rant
There should be capture points in the WvW, or at the very least there should be one in the Eternal Battleground jumping puzzle.
A couple weeks ago there was a whole lot of action in the EB jumping puzzle. The action there was arguably more intense than anything that was going on elsewhere in the WvW maps at the time.
That was the most fun I’ve had in the jumping puzzle ever, all three servers duking it out. Large scale combat (as far as JP’s go), Mesmers rushing to port in reinforcements… the reinforcements that were fighting their hardest against the other servers’ reinforcements waiting at the bottom in the water. Using Mystic Fountains to stage flank charges. Allies hiding while the other two servers get distracted by each other, so that they can revive fallen server-mates so that we can jump right back into the fight. It was great fun.
One of the best parts that made that the most exciting is that the penalty for death was actually something to be feared (losing progress and your position in the JP fighting), rather than a slight inconvenience (waypoint and walk).
If there was a capture point at the top of the Eternal Battleground jumping puzzle, this kind of intense pvp could happen more often. It would allow those of us that love that kind of combat (high stakes for death, jumping puzzles, etc) to participate in the jumping puzzle pvp and be more useful to our server than simply fighting to the top so that we can have a couple Mesmers sit around and port people up for a free chest.
Just put a single champion guild claimer and a capture point at the very top of the puzzle. Maybe make it worth as much as a tower.

Here are some point to consider;
Was Anets design philosophy to show you have mastered PvP or JPs, because you can get BoHs doing both? JPs are in both the PvP environment and the PvE environment. PvP has to happen in a special locale outside of the game world.
Was Anets design philosophy about grinding, because that is contrary to their statements, despite the hunt for most legendaries being about the grind. Something they have stated they want to address for dungeons as well.
PvP should be for PvP. PvE should be for PvE. No one pays a subscription fee so we cant complain pass utilizing the game for it story content, but it is ok to discuss. This is how change is brought about, depends on where the community stands.
Is there a JP that gives badges outside of WvW? I honestly think Anet just wanted them to take part in WvW. Making the max number of chars and running just the JP on each one works but I bet is not what they were hoping for. I doubt they care about it and either do I but this behavior seems to be what causes the most complaints when they could just spend some time playing WvW instead. The same way I’d have to max crafting and do world complete if I wanted to get one.
Personally, I find the WvW jumping puzzle just another challenging form of PvP. It’s cut throat PvP at it’s best. My son & I go in nightly to complete it. And me being a mesmer I always spam in guild/map that I’m offering portals up at the jump puzzle for the next 10 minutes. I usually get a small flood of players that come in to get their free siege.
I’m a bit of a kitten and will stand on that cropping of rock that the 1st mesmer portals are typically done. I’ll stand facing away but panned so i can see the stairs that lead up from the dome… waiting for enemy players to walk up those stairs… i call them the victory stairs b/c, you know once you’ve hit them its all downhill from there and you get all elated “YES! I DID IT…..”…. and then i use my focus offhand and yank them off those stairs where then plummet to their deaths. Like i said, kitten.

And yep, i always get 1 or 2 “Get out here and fight, stop doing lame JP”‘s or something similar. I just ignore them. Once you pay my $60 for my game I might start letting you tell me how to play. Until then, stuff it and I feel like i’m contributing by helping others get siege/items/badges quickly.

Here is the problem, or only difference. The larger portion of the game relies upon PvE content. PvP is an aside option, otherwise it would have been integrated into the game world. If they wanted participation in WvW they should have created a more balanced approach. I found a workaround which was logging on durring dead time.
Here is how unbalanced WvW is though. My server currently hold NO KEEPS! Not a Single Keep. At best we have held one Keep and from observation it fluctuates, but the server I am on can be said to be strictly PvE, not many players care to be engaged in WvW content.
WvW is in my opinion highly unbalanced and lacks any true integration to gameplay. Other than PvP and entering the world for access to map completion and Jumping puzzles WvW affects nothing. You are beating another server great and if you like pushing that its great, nothing wrong with that. If they designed it to force players to join other severs where it the larger community plays WvW that hardly seems balancing or innovative.
Playing DCUO they registered items and endgame content for both sides of the spectrum PVP gear and PVE gear. I know this is guild wars and not DCUO, but observation is a poor implementation/balancing of PVP. I love the concept however of SPVP and look forward to that content at a later date.
So going back to my point from before. One server in this three way war WvW is dominating so greatly that it would be easiest for me to join their server and do the jumping puzzles freely, this doesn’t add to any aspect of PVE or PVP.
