Transferring “as a community” typically is the result of stagnation with regards to opponents. Players are more willing to stay on a server when the matches are fun and they are facing new opponents almost every week.
Yeah, but your assumption is somewhat faulty. You’re assuming that these glicko cliffs are merely artifacts and don’t represent the true difference in strength between border servers. However, when in the past the random rolls have boosted a medium server and allowed a higher border server to come down, the results have generally shown that the difference between the T1 bottom border server and the T2 top border server is still massive. This indicates that the basic problem is not with glicko itself (it does have problems though), but instead with server stacking.
Therefor, we reach a conundrum. Community transfers are caused by stagnation, which themselves cause more stagnation after a brief period of reshuffling. The only way to break that cycle is for the Anet hand of god to come down and smush it by directly instituting changes that prevent community transfers from happening. This could look like the following set of directives:
Preface: All references to “population” are to the total active WvW population of a set of paired servers.
This set of regulations would enforce population balance. Over time the standard deviation would decrease and all servers would approach the mean. However, these regulations would be rightly called draconian, and will never occur for the reasons I discussed in my first post.
Just saying, the gap between tiers in NA is ENTIRELY FAULT of players. EU has had the same system and there have never been such big difference.
No, it hasn’t had the same system. There’s one very important difference.
If everyone in Europe spoke the same language, you’d see the same thing happening there.
The situation could have also happened in EU if all German people went to a single server, and all non-national server players went to a single international server, and have a locked tier 1 with one international server, one french server and another german one. But it didn’t.
When Vizunah dominated, Jade Sea was always around top 5-7, and Augury Rock was always top 8-10.
Elona Reach, Kodash and Riverside have always been on the upper side regardless what the other server were doing. There was a point when these 3 servers were in the top 6.
And there’s been only a single week in the nearly 4 years of the game where first tier was populated by 3 international servers.
About Baruch, there aren’t enough Spanish people to populate more than a single serverWe can conclude it is not about the language people speak, but the mentality and the culture. NA is messed up because of the people playing there.
There is definitely a different culture of play on the EU servers compared to the NA servers.
But the main reason stacking isn’t such a problem isn’t the language servers. The main difference is that players from Australia and South East Asia play on NA servers. EU doesn’t have to contend with the vast number of players playing in wildly different timezones.
Players from OCX or SEA want to play with others. And there weren’t enough players from these areas to fill all servers in NA. So before megaserver, players didn’t want to play on empty maps so certain servers were populated by players from these areas.
And naturally these severs were stronger in WvW during those times creating coverage issues. So people attempted to create 24 hour servers and the only way to do that is to stack on a few servers.

Note that this does not appear to have happened with the recent matchup changes. eg JQ is leading FA but not by a huge amount.
Personally, I think they should dump the glicko and go back to the winning server in a matchup goes up a tier, the last place server goes down a tier, and the 2nd place server stays in the tier. New matchup every week, and you should still stay in the correct tier range for your server, maybe bounce up and down every week.
WvW team should ignore glicko/scroring fix (at least for quite some time), and change first other things, cause glicko will hardly be fixed, score gaps are ment to exist with the actual way WvW works, it will be lost time.
They are messing around the priorities asn usual, but they might even have more limited ground to work than i tough :\, so they work on small fixes that will not work at long term to keep players in at short term.. does not make sense.
