NEED more commander tag colors please
I would be far more interested in an option that allow the tag to be only seen by squad members for running private or guild ops.
What? You have purple. That’s all you need!
Ok, I really don’t know if there’s an option to add colors or a plan to do so. But just in case, what would be on the wish list? Keep in mind the tag should be visible on the mini and world/overhead map, so it might be best to suggest bold, non-metallic, non-transparent-ish colors.
What’s I’d suggest to do is to keep the current colors, add orange and green so that all three primary and all three seconday colors are available, and then let players use their guild symbols as their tags as well. That gives unguilded players a decent variety to work with, as well as more options for the server in general. And it also gives guilds visible recognition, and takes care of the “private guild tag” issue as well, since people will be able to see the tags and know which guilds will welcome people to join them and which ones prefer to run privately, reducing the amount of arguing and harassment that can and does go on already.
It should be pretty easy to take the existing guild symbol and shrink it down to half or one third size and put it in its own box next to the other colors and you’ve just created a TON of options with minimal work. Everyone wins, everyone’s happy.
I usually don’t post in the forums, but since we got the Great Gaile Gray’s attention, i figured some spec work was in order.
Did this very quick, but i think a few options of comm tag shapes would make it easier for newcomers to link shape to function and help disambiguations, especially now that we have world linkings in WvW. And if you ever ask, no, i won’t make a sword tag because i don’t want to interfere with the swords crossed battle icon on map.
I tried to keep the colors to a minimum of variants to make sure they were distant enough from each other. Still partial to having the teal and forest green variant, as a lot of people have a hard time with this color spectrum. The grey ones might not be functional on all maps as well.

I must advise against that, as a lot of guild emblems have rather small details and it would look jumbled on the minimap., especially if multiple ones are there. Seeing the comm tag mid-battle could also be quite a feat; this is why the current comm tag looks like a 3D object with a black outline so that it stands out of “regular graphics”.
you a second time!
As an old guy with poor vision, I’d like to see the option to make the icon larger. As it is now I tab-target the commander and it really helps until someone changes the target, then I’m lost again. Also a guild only tag would be helpful.
Please please please a few more commander tag colors please!~
Can we have the tag pulses please.
Like, pulsing between the bright color and dark color every 0.5s. That way you can always spot it on the map if you want to have a quick glance.
Already quit PvP. Just log in here and there to troll.
Adding shapes would be ideal to adding additional colors. But until commanders are able to change their tag color without disbanding squad, all discussions here seem futile.

Some members of the GW2 community have problems with colour perception, whether due to monitor settings, or colour vision deficiency. So perhaps the addition of different tag shapes, would be helpful?
For example, an exclamation point shape could signify a guild-only, or closed raid; Other shapes – square, hexagon, star, or pyramid, etc., would indicate some other commander-led activities.

It’s perfect. We have suggested different icons before to extend the range of commander tags (follow the dolly! No not that dolly, the dolly commander! :p), but what you posted is just lovely.
Though I suspect nearly everyone will choose the pink heart.
Another idea to differentiate them might be to add a different number of chevrons depending on the size of the squad (ie full 50 man squad is 3 chevrons or something).

A WHITE commander tag (with a black outline) would be AMAZING to have. I personally am colorblind and losing the commander tag in the middle of a fight is a pretty bad problem that I have to deal with daily. Yellow is usually the most visible for me, I can’t ever see the red one in a fight at all. The white tag idea would be so perfect.
Also there is an event for some guild mission where the person who has some crab thing has a beam of light on them, that would also be SUPER helpful for commanders to have on them.

Refer to my previous post for an example of different shapes and colors, O my commander. But yes, the disbanding keeps to be an issue.

Thank you for your support!
The goal is to have the possibility to choose any of those symbols and any of the colors, thus making enough possible combinations so that there won’t be confusion on the battlefield.
Instead of chevrons, i would recommend putting number of squad member on icon mouse rollover / click on commander (ex: Commander CharrMaster (27)

This, so much. For your active commander, beam of light effect and keep the shiny effect around tag icon on minimap.

Your post was great! Delune probably already calling dibs on the heart.

Colorblind here. I often can’t see the affects of the red in purple (compared to blue) or brown (compared to green). Red by itself is fine. Other than those am fine, but worth checking the other common colorblind types. The idea of different shape tags is preferable as well.
Some really great ideas there BordeL! it’s a shame that the fans are doing Anet’s job for them, that Anet is getting paid to do…. or not do as might be the case.
I would like to see a glow around the existing com tags to make easier to see. id like to see green orange and black added.
A wish I often hear (and myself have): an invisible commander tag!
A tag that is visible to only the people in the squad, but not the players from outside.
(maybe squadsettings, visible or not)
We currently work around running a minisquad (basicly a roaming party >5) without a tag (and are happy that the option exsists at all), but you loose all the nice options like markers and leutenant.
Orange, Black, White, and either very harsh neon green or very dark hunter green (as to create contrast for those with common Red/Green colorblindness to terrain and the red tag.

allow Guild Emblems icons to work as Commander tags.
Solves all problems.

Black, White and Orange please!
There is something to be said about shapes and if these were defined to have meaning. Image a tag that indicates havoc versus main tag. Would make it easy for the lead commander to understand where the havoc groups were working or a tag that a scout could flag when they were trying to pinpoint an open wall or enemy force.
De Mortuis Nil Nisi Bonum.

This looks good to me – maybe giving them a contrasting border or background to help them stand out would be a help.
One must have though – give squad leaders the ability to change the colour of their tags on the fly without having to tag down and re-tag up again.
I don’t know about other servers, but on ours it is common for the main commander on a WvW map to run a blue tag and if someone border hops with a squad it would be nice to be able to change the colour to avoid confusion.
Shapes would solve the problem. 4 colors with 4+ shapes would mean 16+ new outcomes.
