Interfering in a fight in this new arena will be very noticeable due to the size of the area and where the stands are. also big gvg guilds have spectators from all servers to keep watch on interference.
Guild should PVE together. also [GF] does not pve often but we have our gear because it was needed to make our builds work. they wont work or have the same effectiveness in spvp with the amulet system.
My build would loose 5k+hp, close to 600 condi dmg, 40% condi duration
our other classes would probably get an even bigger nerf to out dmg and defense.

Look at it like this we have rune sets in spvp that show up in pve but we also have rune sets that are in pve but do not show up in spvp. What this means is that these runes are not set up like the runes in spvp. You can say the same thing armor types sigles food etc.. Its cool you have that type of build and its ok that you run it in wvw and or GvG its just you will need to take your wins there not as serous as say in more of an Spvp setting.

I really hope they don’t implement that spvp sort of system for a proper gvg league across servers. One of the reasons people enjoy wvw builds is the much greater diversity that is available to them.
Why should they take their wins ‘not as serious’ as some kitten pigeon holed spvp setting?

Looking forward to the gvg arena, let’s hope they expand on it and give us some real gvg like we had in gw1 across all servers and timezones, as well as some more interesting maps than a flat piece of ground.

Look at it like this we have rune sets in spvp that show up in pve but we also have rune sets that are in pve but do not show up in spvp. What this means is that these runes are not set up like the runes in spvp. You can say the same thing armor types sigles food etc.. Its cool you have that type of build and its ok that you run it in wvw and or GvG its just you will need to take your wins there not as serous as say in more of an Spvp setting.

I am not sure what you are trying to communicate but it comes off in an elitist tone. There are stat sets in pvp that don’t exist in pve, such as Barbarian.

In WvW yes, they have food and runes you don’t have in spvp, but they also compete against other players with runes and food you don’t have in pvp. Let’s keep the scope of things were they belong and stop trying to cross-compare.

The main issue with the Spvp gear set up is exactly what other people have said, lack of diversity. Some wvw builds just are not viable in spvp for this very reason.

IF they set it up so you can chose knights, valkrie, carrion, etc armor sets in addition to your runes, make all runes available in pve available and allow for more than one than just one amulet I think most people would be fine with it.
If they could allocate their stats close to that of wvw, I dont think there would be as big a difference as between spvp and wvw.

Sure some builds might be unviable due to not having ascendeds and legendaries, but would be a bit more balanced.

I doubt guilds would kitten out saying “Sorry I cant gvg without my ascended gear”

Awww I’m very disappointed. It has no dynamics, it’s just flat ground. That lowers the strategy level significantly. No terrain….. Oh well. Maybe they will add more areas eventually for the more hardcore GvG players.

I was watching a guildie stream it and I can definitely tell everyone without a doubt that it’s bigger than the current gvg area.

Oh it’s absolutely better than the current location. But unfortunately that “Obstructed” Will most likely still happen. There is also an out-of-range bug, which may be related, but I doubt this arena will fix that. I think the range bug is server-side lag related, or a server -> client miscommunication. (example: Fire basic rifle shot at retreating enemy “Out of Range”, I stop chasing, enemy continues to run away, fire basic shot again, shot hits. If he was out of range on the first shot, how did the second shot land when he was now even further away? )

Another example is with rifle killshot. Often I will channel a killshot (1500 range) and it will say “out of range” then with neither target moving and closer or further away, I fire a basic shot (1200 range) and it lands. How does that work?

Obstructed Example: I was chasing an enemy yesterday, I was running down a slope and he was running up one in front of me on the other side, I channeled a killshot…. obstructed. There was at least 20 feet of vertical space above the ground between us, nothing was even close to obstructing the shot. I’d be surprised if these 2 bugs were fixed with this new arena, as I think they are more deeply rooted than terrain.

They look to be the same size as the ones outside EBG green keep on the spawn side, go run by one for some perspective. Sube is quite right, they are big.

The balconies will also mitigate the “interference” from bystanders should that be a problem in the stands area. But it all looks spacious enough to me that I don’t foresee that being an issue.

I think it looks awesome, if you claim to be a hard core GvG player, you can not, not like this, even if it’s just a stepping stone in the right direction, whats wrong with flat ground? u wanting places to cap and hold or something? lol. Thats what that spvp crap is for, or do u like to hide among the trees at the windmill? Perhaps your visions of GW2 GvG, is slightly different from the type of GvG we have on EU servers, which is my mistake and apologize ofc, you should also have your opinion, as Anet do need to please both sides of the pond.

From an EU GvG players perspective you done a really good job there Anet, decent in size (from what i could see) and really happy it’s flat ground, no structures or obstacles and in the style of an arena (where gladiators would normally clash heads), which is exactly what most of us wanted. But most of all you have listened to a community that was formed (weather you think that large or small) within a game, and provided a few things to accommodate us in 1 single patch. An area large enough for us to GvG. Removed a Buff that made our GvG matches unfair. And plenty of room for our spectators, and further more stopped any community whining about queues because of GvG’s taking place.
So thank you very much, and if some are ungrateful so be it, but i can assure u most of us are grateful that u have in some ways listened to our voices and done something for us.*

Cant wait, there are plenty of big guilds in the coming match ups to take advantage of this area. EU Silver League is gonna violate the kitten out of this in the first week lol

What would be great idea in future is if we could face guilds from within our region not just our match up, and even face guilds from ur own server, i can think of a few guilds on home server i’d like to clash heads with

1 last request if you haven’t already thought of it, any chance of a merchant, an armor repair guy and a BLTP guy near the arena? after a few GvG’s bags fill fast and armor does get damaged from time to time. Be a shame to have to map out and back in when u run out of canisters etc.

They should make it exclusive like an instance and have a small gem fee for a guild to enter, like a weekly fee to “rent” the instance.

Why not make it invite into the arena from spectators box instead..

As I said later, it’s a good step for GvG and it’s leaps and bounds better than the current way people are having to GvG. My comment about the terrain and dynamics is that if you fight on a flat piece of ground, it restricts your options for combat. It basically turns into hammers vs hammers. Which is very stale from a competitive standpoint. There are no choke points, no high ground, no dips, no corners, no walls, no falls. You don’t need a capture point to make dynamics, all you need is terrain.

Many WvW players like to poke fun at GvG, myself included, for its lack of dynamic gameplay. It’s just not yet to a place where it can be considered fully competitive. The common joke that comes up is that it’s just a bunch of people running at each other on flat ground with hammers. We know it’s not true, but its a fun joke to make. At the same time, it also isn’t COMPLETELY distant from the truth…. Go take a look at some GW1 gvg videos. Still plenty of space to move around, but there was terrain, and chokes, etc.

I agree on the merchant idea.

Why would u even want choke points and walls? If that was the case there would be no point in a new map, just play WvW in one of the numerous keeps and towers.

I agree with you on the point of why people make jokes about GW2 style GvG, but these are the people that have never tried it or are very poor at it, and don’t understand or grasp why some teams of equal numbers, similar class compositions and builds are a much stronger or weaker team than the other. If it did boil down to 2 groups of players mindlessly spamming skills while running head on to each other, then why do we have certain guilds that will go a whole 10 rounds without even 1 person going down, because skill/team composition/leadership/and team work plays a massive part of it.

I really don’t need to look at GW1 GvG videos i played more GvG in GW1 than i have had cooked dinners, and i know where your coming from with that, and even though i had a great time in GW1 GvG, I pray to kitten that GW2 GvG dont end up nothing like that. We have moved on from it, it is not GW1, spvp is closer to GvG GW1 than what you, me and every other GvG players does here. You yourself said that you are a hardcore GvG player, then you totally understand that when these people joke about in that way, that its far from the truth. If u can’t understand that then you have been doing something totally different to the rest of us, or not had a wide variety of skilled opponents. You run head on with VoTF or VII or GD or any of the other big names and wonder why is it, if you are both only running at each other spamming skills, then why is it you seem to explode on contact and they don’t lol

It’s not a fight to see who can hold the choke better, or who can take the advantage of the high ground, or who can use walls to their advantage, keep that for the towers and structures in WvW, if thats what we wanted we wouldn’t have claimed the open field down at the windmill. It’s a pure fight to the death who is better/tougher/stronger, last team standing where the only advantage is skill. The day they bring in structure’s/choke points/high grounds and walls in the day they kitten it up.

It’s a pure fight to the death who is better/tougher/stronger, last team standing where the only advantage is skill.

You just pointed out its main flaw. It becomes street fighter, who can combo better and faster, without much more to it. The intellectual level is lowered. It becomes more twitch and reaction based, and less tactic based. You establish a starting tactic, but if it fails, basically the fight is already over. You still need to know how to counter enemies, take advantage of enemy mistakes, but the global level of thinking is much less than if terrain were involved.

GvG is like playing CoD or CS. Everyone has same weapons, everyone shoots at each other, person who aims best and fastest wins, typically. Adding terrain would be like changing over to battlefield, where there are vehicles to worry about, anti vehicle infantry, stationary weapons, and a changing environment. There would also be some minor roles pop up, like distraction/harass.

Or here’s another example: GvG is like drawing in MS paint, it doesn’t have many options, it’s limited. If they added terrain and structures to GvG it would be like using photoshop, where you have layers, and options, and can change things on the fly easier.

The argument that GvG on flat ground is more skill and tactic based than if they added terrain and structures is… just not an argument. It’s painfully obvious that adding more things creates more strategy and tactics, and up both the skill and intelligence level. It’s not an insult to GvG players that are currently playing, it’s just what it’s currently limited to.

Anet said you would be able to get into it from the WvW menu. Other than that I don’t know.

It is supposed to be a part of Obsidian Sanctum, which is already a separate area, and will get a separate queue (as well as it’s own place in WvW selection menu).
