Main Class – Ranger [Bezerker/Trapper Hybrid]
Main Mode – WvW [Gate of Madness]
Not sure if everyone caught this but there is a new currency called Memories of Battle, “a new tradeable material, Memories of Battle, that only comes from playing World vs. World” for WvW players. It was mentioned in the recent Legendary Weapon blog post.
Maybe this currency will become valuable and will help to make WvW a bit more rewarding to play, but not to much that people come to farm for gold. Also this could help to bring in some WvW ‘unique’ skins that are bought with said currency, I know ArenaNet doesn’t want to force players into WvW but since this is tradeable they can sill get them.
Personally I think they need to offer a WvW equivalent of mist essences so we can craft ascended back items etc. I’m hoping this is it to be honest… It would be about time!
Just to add to the news:
WvW is getting new drops to help facilitate their income, they’re part of the new legendary journeys.
Mentioned in the Q/A forum about new economy changes here:https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/Economy-Questions-Repost/first#post5602820.
Not sure if he is talking about new items or just the new currency though. Seems like just the new currency.
Oh boy, I just don’t see why we need yet another currency in this game. Karma, Gold, Laurels, Badges, Geodes, Fractal Shards, Dungeon tokens, and I’m sure I missed a bunch of others.
I get that there is probably a reason but couldn’t they have done something like convert Badges of Honor into this new currency.

That might be the plan, they haven’t really ‘officially’ announced this new currency or what it is for other than legendary crafting. I get the feeling that badges of honor will be getting replaced with this currency for simplicity, but they didn’t just want to make badges of honor tradeable because some people have lots stocked up and would make them become relative worthless right at release.
Most important for a new wvw currency
Not farmable in eotm!!!!
atm every pve tryhard that visit eotm sometimes had more badges of honor than most core wvw players.
- Few thoughs, can we trade in badges of honor for the new currency?
- Will the new currency replace badges of honor or will they still be obtainable?
- Will this currency be obtainable from EotM or just WvW?
my impression (hope?) was they were trying to separate WvW from the abortion that is EOTM. You want the new “real” wvw currency? you got to do real WvW. No more PvE’ing for currency thats supposed to cost blood.

Bingo! Too many currencies to keep track of and acquire. These will probably be similar to spirit shards that drop on occasion.

I think those currencies do have a use. They’re generally gained by playing the required content and that separates it from gold, a generic currency that can be used anywhere and can be acquired anywhere.
Badges of Honor would have been nice in the past, but I think they’ve become too trivial to acquire and don’t have much value.
It’s not a case of useful, its a case of there are way to many currencies as is.
If they took up space like they did in the past, I’d see a problem, but I’m not sure why that in of itself of having too many currencies could be a problem especially when they’re all earned just by playing the game.

A new currency is what the devs add when they officially want to give players something new and exciting, while they inofficially have to devalue players current worth because they are stockpiling too much. We see the same thing happening to guilds currency.
So really, its not poor Anets fault that you put yourself in this situation by playing WvW. You should have known better. Its your own fault.
They don’t want us to go through new content super fast. Many peoples have 10K and probably have up to 100K badges and adding a new currency is just another way to time gate us.
I’m not again it TBH. I would personally love that they would add something to convert WvW rank to something else.
I don’t think people realize this is the beginning of ‘unique WvW rewards’ that players have been asking for a long time now. I think people just bash everything ArenaNet does on the forums just because. Then they wonder why the Dev’s don’t spend much time reading and replying on the forums. Hopefully they go into more detail about what it is, how to get it, and why they are making it.
I’m not against the rewards or the currency itself, I’m against having 10,000 different currencies. It was what a year ago that Anet acknowledged there are to many currencies in game and they wanted to trim it down ? So now they add more ?

This is the beginning just as different stat exotic gear being introduced to the WvW vendors were, just as rank boxes were, just as seasons were. So many potential beginnings but if ANet doesn’t keep maintaining it, then it will end up just like all the other beginnings.
And yes, there’s bound to be people that do bash everything ANet does but can you really blame them? I mean look at the direction and amount of development WvW has seen when compared with the two other core gamemodes. Then, you get incidents like the company’s own president making comments like this and this, and it just makes it seem like over these 3 years they’ve not really payed attention to WvWers at all.
I just want to point out for clarification that, from their description, the Memories of Battle will be a tradeable crafting material, used in crafting legendary weapons/precursors. Not a currency (i.e., not in the wallet).

The funny thing is that this is true. You know how many people have legendarys in WvW? A lot, given the rewards that are given in WvW alone I don’t think anyone has earned them solely in WvW. They don’t often play PvE I understand that, I’m the same way but he is right there is a super small if any percentage of people that since the beginning of playing GW2 have only played WvW. He isn’t denying that people spend 99% of their time in WvW but most people come out from time to time for living world, getting resources, a break from WvW. Take those comments how you like but he isn’t saying what most people interpret that WvWers play PvP (often). I also like how everyone thinks that their class/gamemode get’s no ArenaNet love.

Over the 3 years since release WvW has seen changes:
- orb of power removed due to frustrating hacking
- blood-lust nodes created (including new center to map)
- EotM (although not really a favorite of WvWers but was created by the ‘WvW team’ just a interesting choice of design)
- new wvw traps (disablers, stealth-reveal, supply drain)
- siegrazer events when you don’t control any objective (highly underutilized), WvW ranks (and the tweaks to them)
- sentrys (yep they use to not exist)
- Obisidium Sanctum (EB jumping puzzle it’s own map and the addition of a ‘guild arena’) (again not a big WvW change but preformed by the ‘WvW team’)
- Champion bags from tower, keep, and sm lord (If I recall they had to get added to WvW after champion bags got added to the game by default).
- Few spots on the map have been tweaked to get rid of players being able to glitch into objectives when no walls or gates were down (one I remember is Quintin Lake use to have a bridge)
- WvW tournaments (along with unique skin for participating)
- Different siege models/projectiles for holidays (launching presents with a catapult is fun)
- Unique WvW ‘event’ weeks (for better or worse)
- New population calculations
- The changes to the ‘b’ key menu (made a few tabs and ability to see what map had what ppt)
- The changes/fix to the que system (fix is kinda expected/should have been that way since release, but they added the ability to see what position in the que you were)
And they have shown quite a bit of love for the expansion:
- New borderlands map with more ‘unique’ feeling towers instead of just ‘copy paste’ style towers
- Guild Claiming changes
- New guild missions
- Automatic Upgrades
- New siege models
Please don’t reword my statement if you’re going to try and make a counterargument, I did NOT say it “gets no ArenaNet love”. What I did say was that in comparison to the other two game modes, it receives less. As for your examples, most all of those amount to minor mechanic changes that effect more on the micro scale rather than encompassing ones that benefit WvW gameplay as a whole.

I think you’re living in a fantasy land.
There’s a lot of unknowns about anything here.
WvW ArenaNet gets bashed because they have terrible service for WvW players. There’s no way around that. They fumble with the game mode, fail to deliver on promises, and neglect it in a thousand ways (3 years of broken achievements while rest of the game has new achievements rained on them, 3 years to fix server transfer rates, changes keep rewarding upper tiers more than lower tiers, etc.). The very idea of having a server to identify with and fight for has been drastically crippled not only by giving non-server based WvW (Edge of the Mists) but removing servers from PvE and PvP completely. Outside of WvW, I wouldn’t be surprised if the majority of players don’t know what server they belong to.
The last words anyone around here remembers from an ArenaNet founder is the implication that ArenaNet doesn’t need to support WvW players much because WvW is just a distraction from other modes of the game. Which is ironic because most people I know feel forced into other game modes for the money and skins they provide (somehow the single weapon skins in your added feature list they added to the game once are not doing it).
“the beginning of ‘unique WvW rewards’ that players have been asking for a long time now” is not something I expect to find reading between the lines on a blog post on a completely separate thing. Unique WvW rewards would have to be able provided competitive income rates to other modes and ideally not come from kills.
I am highly skeptical.
