I agree that WvW is a shadow of what it should be. The really disgusting thing is that it’s the best the games developer community has to offer.

“Disgusting”….. really… disgusting? Exaggerate much?

Appropos – looking at some “past” games being much better in some ways – yes, it’s becoming a bit disgusting.

One person said it best:

If the errors in WvW were gem store based, WvW would be taken offline and it would be fixed that day.

To expand on my previous statement, I am of the firm belief that many of the important decisions regarding games of this genre (realm-based battle MMOs, not just GW2) are made by people who have little passion for it and few qualifications/little experience or competence in it.

What I am seeing as a computer expert of over 25 years is a computer community losing its expertise and not much being “cutting edge” any longer.

Losing expertise is a symptom of a dying culture.

It’s a symptom of not caring – about much at all.

It’s time to wake up the educators who are failing to keep up with the demands of the world that needs far more and better education from those who are successful rather than those who can’t figure out how to teach at all.

and this can fixed if they add to guild claims in wvw objects a real meaning .

your guild claimed an object ?

  1. your guild members can place sieges inside this object in a 60% ratio of total allowed sieges . these sieges have 24 hours decay time and all others allies have the other 40% of the total allowed sieges to build wherever they want
  2. guilds earn huge amount of influence ( like this that the guild will earn after a daily activity of their members in pve ) if they successfully hold this object for 24 hours
  3. after 24h the claim auto released and can reclaimed from any guild including the same guild

coverage problem from guild ? no problem at all. 500 men slot for tier 6 guild and there is not any problem …. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild

coverage is and was a myth because everyone observes the problem from server side view , but it is and was always guild problem .

and so on …. the total number of influence that earn a guild from wvw ( not only from claims , but from kills too ) it will give the wvw score for a guild ……

but , this will never happened , because the “brilliant” minds that designed the wvw wanted wvw has only gvg guilds ( to earn gems from transfers , lol ) and pug commanders just to control it and not real WAR guilds …

they are controlling it , so far , but now this control is out of their hands … the wvw population dropped dramatically and even T1 servers have night coverage in europe at least where i am playing and the gvg covers a very small part of wvw population right now . nobody wants jailed in a guild with 5 days schedules raids and a dictator-ism leadership just to have zerg fights and win or give nothing else other than loot bags

someone will say if they add this system the towers will never change hands ,but the same is happening now !

yesterday night we were 6 total players in my server against a roaming zerg of 20 enemies . we bunker the garrison only and only to not loose the waypoint and we didn’t care for any other object . they captured our towers and we didn’t took back them for all night ….. and was …. A FRIDAY RESET NIGHT ….. 6 players and only for all wvw maps !!! the third server had zero players. they lost everything at night

To help the mechanic being less unfair and ultimately more competitive maybe loosing objectives while being “outnumbered” wouldn’t reset the upgrades on it. So once you take it back it is claimed just as it was before being taken.

Also, they could easily modify the formula to calculate the score at each thick so that it would award only a proportional % of the usual points for each servers. This way low hours for your server would be far less damaging to the overall score.

WvW needs more focus on defense. You can win forfeiting towers as long as you capture faster. And points count only when the timer is over.

There has to be more things to do around each location, and more reasons to stick around and defend.
A guild sticking to a tower, claiming it, and staying around it should have fun.

And points on capture, defense, and bonuses for consecutive defenses. Not just on tick.

Idk. I mean what exactly would make guarding a tower more fun? Like I’m all for scouting and defense, but..I think most people enjoy getting good fights in WvW too. Not to mention, your idea of having people defending a bunch of towers as well as keeps would require a LOT of people. I mean, if we’re saying there’s an issue with PPT being tied to coverage, I don’t think your idea really helps at all. If a server is having coverage issues, they probably can’t afford to have people sitting at every tower and keep to defend it. And if the game became 80% of your population defending, there is barely anybody to go out and actively take more stuff or put pressure on the other servers. And if all 3 servers are mostly sitting around defending, nothing is happening. In which case, things would just go back to..Nobody wanting to defend, and just ditching towers to go cap more stuff.

Regardless, it seems like a lot of players have really good ideas. It’s a shame that Anet seems to just be ignoring this part of the game- with a lack of acting on either players’ ideas or..any other ideas.

I don’t think I would want PPT removed from WvW entirely, I mean it’s nice to have the objectives and goals there. But I do like getting good fights. And the PPT system definitely needs to be looked at..I mean there are a couple different time zones where my server is lacking, and we got matched up with a server that had really good coverage during some of that time. Three weeks in a row. And every night it just became..When all of our playerbase went to bed, that server came and took our entire borderlands. And we simply did not have enough people to stop it. That just seems really unfair and I wish Anet would realize this. My server can oftentimes beat that server’s groups in fights-when we have our numbers. And even then we’re outnumbered a lot of the time. It’s just kind of disheartening to beat a server in fights, but lose to them because they have more people-especially at our down times. And like I think some other people have pointed out, when this becomes a continuous issue for a server, guilds start to just not care about PPT and just go for the fun open-field fights. Which in turn, doesn’t help your already-challenged PPT. And since winning is based on coverage more than anything else, you wind up with stacking servers to win..Rather than server loyalty and working to improve servers and work your way up to win.

Funny because I just had 2 hours of mostly epic fights today and I did a lot of roaming too. Very little karma train at all.

As a side note: may the spy working for FA, that destroyed most of our Omegas on FA BL, get what he deserve. Pretty shameful way to play. Specially when your team is leading and have FAR superior numbers.

With all due respect, was it just those two hours where there was remotely even numbers? I noticed you said how one of your enemy servers is outnumbering you and how SOS has a very healthy lead on the third day. Sure you have some fun fights, and so do I in uneven fights, but there is no denying that on the third day of your match, you already have a winner (Unless SOS decides to leave for the week).


It is not what you do, but how and why you do it that counts.

We were overall badly outnumbered most of the day. However, we had a decent group on FA BL that was able to do more than very well despite them being significantly more in the same zone without being outnumbered there. Biggest loot fest in a while to be honest. I know full well we will loose the week, but that doesn’t prevent me from enjoying and play as if I wanted to win anyway.

PPT becomes a joke when a Guild started growing in numbers and doing well in large scale fights. then there’s GvG. after a short while the Guild will start to crave for more fights rather than defend or cap towers/keep. server hopping is inevitable until being disbanded.
