PPT needs to matter
I’m pretty sure no1 cares about ppt cause it’s super boring.
Rewarding winning in any meaningful way without addressing population disparities will result in a kitten show. WvWvW at it’s core and especially in it’s current state simply isn’t worthy. Just look what happened with seasons/tournaments.
People cared to organize in the early days because lots of other people were playing, so walking yaks resulted in fights, keeping a camp from flipping just to get a waypoint in Hills/Bay resulted in fights. All without any shiny rewards. Without a lot of people playing, PPT related tasks show themselves to be miserably tedious.
One thing a can agree on is that something more interesting should be gained from winning, or at least from the badges. Maybe some expensive and hard to obtain items to aim at. Armor sets, rare runes, I don’t know.
But to just sit on thousands of badges and hundreds of world ability points, that’s comepletely unusable, feels like a waste.
At least earlier we had a few (for most ppl) almost unobtainable titles, and one or two things to spend wvw points on, but now….nothing.
We should also have more seasons. And we should have gotten that from the beginning. In the NHL you don’t see the top 3 or 4 teams meeting only eachother. And thats how top tier is. You fight the same servers over and over. We dont need wierd alliances and non server identity wvw.
Until servers have such huge difference in population, PPT should not matter at all. Why would server with more people get better rewards? That would just mean everyone transfers into one single server which always wins all the matches (happens now too but less because many players ignore ppt). Or why should server with strong nightcrew get better rewards even when most of their prime time players are horrible and lazy. No, you should not be rewarded for work someone else did why you were sleeping.
Yes population is an issue and changes need to be made to better balance the servers, but there still needs to be a reason to try to win.
Both PPT and population issues need to be addressed. Fixing either will also change the best solution for the other. Thus, I’d say fix PPT first to avoid over-consolidating servers when fixing population.

Yes it has a scoreboard and its an ongoing competition rather than a game of monopoly with your family so it needs to incentivize people to gain points, that’s pretty much stating the obvious.

Are impossible titles practical additions to any game? Was season stacking and the almost palpable plummet in player activity afterwards a good thing? Do professional sports teams play 24/7 in 10 vs 50 vs 80 games? Did Anet layout their actual plans for the WvWvW revamp so you could actually pick apart the problems it might pose?
No? Okay.
Didn’t they say we’re gonna get legendary backpacks with the mysterious overhaul?
I’m pretty sure I read that there will be things required that will be awarded by winning matchups…though it wouldn’t be enaugh of a reason to go full ppt for me.
All we wanted was a GvG.
you are right that wvw was best when people believed in PPT.
you are wrong that PPT or not-PPT is a matter of rewards.
WvW turned bad (started dieing) when people lost the believe that the current PPT measures something meaningful. in fact we all know now that PPT measures nothing else than off-time (esp. night) population. A competition based on “who has more people at night” and “who does faster PvD” is nothing anyone is interested in.
To reanimate PPT-WvW you therefore do not need rewards for the current PPT, you need a PPT people are concinved of measuring “who (strategically/tacically) fights better”
PPT does matter to most people and for the hardcore WVW’ers that like to put down people and call them PPT or better yet PVD nubs they are kidding themselves and just trying to tout themselves as some awesome better than everyone else WVW’er. Some may be really good but PPT matters to people which is why WVW population has shrunk. With the server imbalances match-ups are usually decided as soon as the reset happens and over that last few months its been basically the same match-up week after week. If there is no way to win and the match has been determined pretty much as soon as reset happens what else is there to do other than try to find some fights and have some fun. WVW will continue to flounder until something is done about balancing the match-ups better. If PPT didn’t matter then the same servers wouldn’t be in top tier every week forever. Unfortunately most of the other match-ups once you start getting down to like tier 3 and below its the same old thing week after week and for most servers that means no chance to win.

There’s a big difference between people who are pro-ppt and those that simply like defense in the game.
One cares about the score; the other about the fight.
PPT is 40% why WvW died. The other 60% was HoT and pre-HoT decisions.
IF we have a wvw design where “ppt” guild base was due offense/defense for the server(alliance) contribution to land coquered over XYZ servers, that would make guild actually fight more probably due ladder of contribution and guild importance to that server.
