When the new scoring system is released, will there be another reset of glicko volatility and deviation? It seemed like there was no partial reset when new server links were made two weeks ago and I was under the impression that there is supposed to be a partial reset every time (as has been done in practice since server links were introduced).
Or maybe a hard rating reset now that a new scoring system will take place? A red post said that you had the intention of pooling this at some point. I guess now would be a good time.
I think Glicko should be reseted on every relink (i.e. every 2 month) based on ANets population measure using to build the links, e.g. as following
Compute for every link the total-pop.
There is a MaxPop and a MinPop
The link with MaxPop should get 1750 Glicko
The link with MinPop should get 1250 Glicko
All other are lineary scalled into that range.
Of course it should get reset on each relinking. That only makes sense since the pug servers get tossed around to other Hosts. Keeping any sort of score for the Hosts at relinking time has no validity, and frankly applying scores, other than the weekly matchup, to Hosts that have temporary populations added to them also makes no sense. At this point it’s all smoke and mirrors that really mean nothing, and will continue to mean nothing as long as this ridiculous linking continues.
One of the Anet arguments in favor of a 3-month relinking schedule was to allow Glicko to settle because it is supposed to be partially reset every time. It doesn’t look like that happened this time around.
