I’ll keep this as short as I can. Here’s the situation
- I am in the Oceanic Time Zone
- I am on a tier 1 server
- I am a guild leader of a guild with 1300 members
- I am a commander
- Since Friday reset, I’ve been playing everyday at least 10 hours a day.
I play because:
- Many players and commanders have left the game recently because they are fed up with the lack of improvements in WvW. I lost at least 4 oceanic commanders in my guild.
- I major guild has left our server out of boredom and stale gameplay, we lost at least 3 oceanic commanders.
The problems:
- I can’t sleep
- I can’t go to work
- I am disappointing real life acquaintances because I am missing or late for appointments
- I can’t go out to dinner with my friends and family
- I’m at work now but I’m always checking the score and ready to get back home if needed.
I can just give up and let my timezone crumble. But you know I can’t let this happen. I have people I need to be responsible to, alliances I need to honor. But guess what, I have even greater responsibilities in real life and Anet, you are forcing me to choose. Why? A game vs my real life.
Someone is going to drop dead and die from exhaustion or lack of sleep. It’s going to happen. You said this was a casual game. Please do something about it. Not casual at all.
A casual game should be one where you playing or not does not affect your position greatly compared to your peers. As of right now, logging off causes major problems, especially if you are a commander and guild leader.
The recent announcements in WvW changes, especially the break out system make it worse. At least now I can take over a boarderland and leave it to the zerg to take care of it. Soon, there will be no sleep. Ever.
Guys just read the threads about tier 1 and 2 match ups. Sleep deprivation is a common theme.
It’s the only way to win in this game. Infact, it’s like that in real life too. You spend all your time on something, be it studying, work, relationships, you will be more successful. Read about all the successful CEOs who sleep like less than 3 hours a day.
BUT ANET SAID THIS WAS A CASUAL GAME!!!
It doesn’t have to be like this. Think outside the box. Just because it is the way now doesn’t mean it has to be.
We played it your way Anet, now listen to us for once. We, your customers are suffering. You can fix it. Please.
I appreciate the advice on delegation but:
1. We have 30 officers in the guild for 1000+ people. Every officer is incharge of different things. But officers are leaving the game, etc. Yeah I even still talk to them after they have left the game. But they can’t really help like they did before. Why are they leaving the game? There is are many threads out there on "stale WvW’ already. Also, these officers are normal people too, they wake up and go to sleep. They need to sleep too. I don’t expect everyone to play until 5-7am in the morning to wait for Americans to come online.
2. I am the co-owner of a real life company with over 500 employees. I believe I know how to delegate. It’s the only reason why I can still afford to skip real life work. The problem is there are time zones where no one covers. In real life there are business hours. People can get off work and go home. In WvW, no sorry, there isn’t.
3. Next you will say “just find someone to cover the Euro shift”. Well, if you are a serious WvW player, you will know the difficulty given there are Euro Servers. In real life terms, basically there is a huge labour shortage for the “Euro Time Zone Labour Market”. In real life, we would either avoid the market (can’t thanks to Anet), automate the operations (can’t its called botting) or outsource to another partner (this is the only way, Euros, we need you!).

You should contact a therapist who specializes in addiction.
Just quit life and play gw2. Real life can wait.
In all seriousness – did I just get trolled? If it’s genuine, take a break from the game, the game will carry on without you just fine.
Also, take advice from the poster above me.
too much addiction, trust me continue with your life, gw2 as of part times only. it does not matter u win or lose the war it get reset anyways. play games are for fun and time wasting only. if u cant do it… contact a therapist who specializes in addiction like Roughneck.2509 said.
Jedah’s it sounds like you need other guild leaders in your guild. A 1,300 man guild isn’t very realistic for one person to manage.
If you still find yourself being stressed than it may be time to give the torch to someone else and demote yourself entirely in the guild to a regular member.
I hate to beat the dead horse here, but you might have a serious issue, and your “before someone dies” could actually be quite literal, and that “someone” might be you. Find a few replacements, or at least additional leaders. Take some time off from the game. People will evolve, and the burden on your shoulders should be cast away on people who step up in your absence. You should then return in moderation, and assume a smaller role. Think about your health, not the opinions of strangers in a game.
Delegate Delegate Delegate!
(I don’t care if the initial post was a troll, here’s what’s going on for me)
I’m currently co-leader of my guild, after having been just an officer since launch, but part of the community for 7rs.
With 2 extra officers underneath us we’re now managing a lot more efficient. With a lot of guilds already having left our server I am not as obsesssed with helping/saving/stepping up/being there for everyone anymore. I am, but not the 10hrs aday I’d easily put in before (or just the 6hrs management without actually playing).
Other than the guild, I’m currently the sole representative of our Alliance, I take a great deal of responsibility in coordinating the server, and I’m one of 2 admins on our community forum. (farshiverpeaks.com)
I have told everyone that because I can’t possibly do everything in a day it’s all about baby steps now. The game is going to be around for years to come. I am focusing on creating a stable base for the community on our server so we can stay and enjoy each others company.
The people who are still here hardly cares if we drop to the bottom tier (we went from t1 to t6 in a few weeks when guilds started leaving). We focus on having fun. I try to focus less about the numbers and more about each encounter I have when in WvW.
I wish you good luck.
Agian; DELEGATE. Trust others that want to help you, release control. And give yourself a day a week (yes I know it’s hard) that you wont play. And reward yourself ONE RESET that you do not log on.
…and how do you propose Anet “fix” your own addiction?
You are fighting for a meaningless number and empty “pride”. If you aren’t enjoying it then you are no longer playing a game, but working a job that pays only in lost sleep and no social life.

If they ignore it, governments will step in when people die. Tobacco companies, alcohol companies, anti-obesitiy campagins against fast food companies. Regulation will come if they don’t do something about it.
Come on you seriously need to ask this question? Anet can fix it. They refused to before. Maybe it’s time they reviewed their policy.
Is this real life?
No, it’s a troll.

Thanks, that is good advice, but you’re misunderstanding the situation.
The problem is not really delegation. The problem is I need to sit there in WvW, on a fully capped map, because we are all afraid if we log off all our efforts will be wiped out in a minute. All people need to sleep. Our players are playing until 5-7am in the morning waiting for our USA partners to get on for their shift.
The new “Break Out” system is just going to make it worse. Because the efforts of 100 people can be overwritten within minutes by several people. Making it harder for us to sleep. I understand Anet is trying to resolve the spawn camping problem, but their solution also creates a new problem. Please think on both sides.
Let go then. Log out. I think you will be surprised how little changes when you are gone, and how little you care if you come back.
You can’t die Jadahs! Our zerg needs you :’(
If you died, I will rez u in game, no worry.

Let go then. Log out. I think you will be surprised how little changes when you are gone, and how little you care if you come back.
I know what you mean.
But when your parents have cancer and its giving you a hard time, do you just give up and let them go?
When your business is doing poorly and hundreds of your employees are on the verge of not getting their next pay cheque, do you just say “screw it, I’m outta here”?
When 100s of your friends are suffering from sleep deprivation because they are afraid of an enemy night raid, do you just quit and abandon them?
I’m sorry, that’s just not me. And it’s the reason why my life is probably so much more colourful than all those people telling me to get a life.
Every situation can be solved. And quitting is not a solution. Think outside the box. If you can’t even make changes in a video game, what can you possibly hope to accomplish in life?
Wait for Anet to improve wvw. Seriously, no one will blame you if we lose our Tier 1 rank. It’s Anet’s fault for making wvw sucky.
No one forces you to invest that much time into a Game. And thats the Point even your last Post shows that you have to realise: “Gw2 is just a Game”. No Parent with Cancer , no Job , a Game.
If you cant do that on your own , the only way is to get yourself professional Help ( e.g. Therapist)
Yeah, wvw is dying, due to Anet’s neglect.
I’d seriously suggest you take a break from the game, your current lifestyle doesn’t sound healthy at all :o
But yes, over the weeks I’ve seen more and more WvWrs quitting, taking breaks and playing less because there’s really no long term point or goal in WvWing. Then there’s the culling issues, unfixed bugs, limited builds each class can run and disparity in gear, achievements and currency (altho the last one has been somewhat fixed since Nov 15th patch) acquirable in WvW and PvE. I’m afraid February patch will quite likely be too little too late.
LOL sounds more like an addiction than anything else
Yip WvWvW is dead and will just get worse until Feb’s meant to be fix it all patch. So if you have another 2 months of destroying yourself left in you then carry on mate
Some people will return after the patch in FEB but unless it addresses all the issues for W3 then the game will be shelved by 90% of the W3 players and they will just completely ignore the game.
I said it at around 6 weeks that people will hang around for roughly 3 months for developers to fix main problems in a game if they dont then people will leave en mass. Exactally what has happened to GW2.
problems :
1. 3 same maps for boarder lands – plain lazy
2. Maps are at least 10x too small and lead to zergs rather than guild wars
3. Way too many bugs/hacks not addressed
4. refusal to balance classes
5. no incentive for W3
6. Guilds mean nothing in W3
7. Jumping puzzles in W3 (for what it has nothing to do with it just if you can press a space bar)
8. No orbs/relics anymore
9. No incentive for escorting Yaks – a critical part of the game
10. Supply camps way too easy to take and some supply routes distances are madness on the current maps.
11. EB completely dominated by the team holding SM castle (maps way too small )
There have been many more issues placed on the forums but I just feel that those seem to be the more recuring ones. If Anet had even mad an attempt to address any of those issues the game would not be falling as fast as it is but their opinion was sPvP was more important…… we will see after Feb if you still even have a game.
what the kitten is going on
Wow Jedahs, you really are burning the candle at both ends … I suggest that you take a week or two off as a reward for your great efforts, in fact the whole of SoS have worked hard since getting into T1 so the whole server should all take a week off. No-one will cap your keeps & towers, we promise.
A concerned SBI player :P

It’s not the 1st time i see some1 mentioning February as an important date for WvW. Did Anet say they will update it at this point ?

Supposedly, altho it remains to be seen how many people will be left doing WvW by then lol.

This thread is useless, since the answer is rather obvious.

Tell that to everyone who smokes, drinks, plays dangerous sports, works in a hospital, cooks near an open fire, drives a car for leisure, goes scuba diving etc. etc.
GG making fun of it because its a video game because its popular to make fun of it on internet forums. But in the end, all those things I mentioned are a hazard to health and not important at all after if you step back and think about it. You know why the media has made it popular to make fun of people playing video games too much? Because A LOT of people do it and its newsworthy.
The thing is, this problem CAN BE SOLVED, you guys are all so fatalistic, like the only way to solve a problem is to quit and give up and be a mundane, common, nobody. Solve the problem. What if…imagine this guys….what if I could play 2 hours a day and still accomplish what I accomplish in 10 hours. And the results stayed to allow us to rest.
What if that happened? Imagine! It can be changed!
Whatever, I’m just helping myself and my server. And from all the private messages I am receiving, it looks like I am speaking out for most of the leaders in top tier servers.
(edited by Jedahs.2713)
Sleep deprivation… Lots in my guild know exactly what you’re talking about, and we’re in tier 5! On an EU server! 16 hour shifts, so that the red server can beat the green server. But it was done.
Time for me to go to bed. At least I’m in North America, so it’s early.
If you have 1.000 members, each member gives 1gold=10 new commanders.
Enjoy your rest

I know, we used to have 15 commanders bro.
Now we have 5, all online at roughly the same time.
Where are all the other commanders? Their location says UNKNOWN, and we all know why. Read the threads on this forum.
Again, delegation is not a problem. Infact, I rarely command anymore. But what happens when those commanders go to sleep? Well, someone has to pick up the torch or all their efforts are wasted. I will not allow my people to think their efforts were for naught.
That is what being a leader is all about. We have to do the dirty work so that our people can live normal, comfortable lives.

Please listen to what you are saying: “… if I could play 2 hours a day and still accomplish what I accomplish in 10 hours”.
If that happened then everyone, on all three servers would learn from your example and would render your point moot. People would still be playing 8-10 hours a day just to keep up with the other servers even if you play smarter.
Also, GW2 is a game, if a game is directly affecting your performance in real life there is an issue that needs to be solved. Use some of that management skill to make a decision, and make it fast before you burn out.
@Jedahs.2713
My 2 cent from an oceanic guild of 800 member.
Change your point of view man, and you’ll see a much brighter tomorrow.
Which matters more to you? Your server? Your Alliance? Your Guild? or Your Life?
Get your priority straight, this is a free game, and you are binding yourself on a free game, BY YOURSELF.
To be more substantive, I recognize this isn’t merely about winning a game, it’s about your commitment to other people. I’m going to say, as others probably have, that you need to set more limits on how much you play this game. The problem is not what others expect of you; no one will be disappointed if you make it clear that you need more timeaway from your guild. The issue is what you believe you owe to others and your own expectations of yourself. If your guild is shrinking, it may well be for reasons far beyond your control. This game will change, you need to accept that.
@cobble
2. The name guild wars tends to lead to the thought of getting some guild mates together and head out to acheive something. The map does not realy allow this as the Zerg can cover the map in less than a min. So no it not guild wars it Zerg wars
3. The issue has never been addressed by simply removing the item did nothing to fix the problem. what about all the door hacks/wall hacks taking place ? still not fixed but when fract’s was found to have the issue it was fixed in zero time – clear that W3 means nothing to the game. Culling still a big problem.
4. No they are not fixing the classes – Necro still pretty dead class in the game. Thief can do more damage in a single hit using the dagger than 99% of 2hd damage can do at the end of a combo. No real cooldowns on their hits against every other class sitting with 5-30 second cooldowns. Any fixes made were purly to the benifit of sPvP.
5. Treadmills may not be the way to go… but no benifit for claiming and upgrading castles/keeps ? yea i can drop some abilities that guild learns over a huge time period rendering them relitivly ineffective. Why can we not get a warning of the tower being attacked with a general number in the area ?
6. refer to 2
7. JP are not any part of W3 in fact they barley make to PvE status they do nothing for W3 except put a drain on troops trying to enter the war. Although this is becoming less of an issue daily as less people are headed out to partake in W3 if JP gets removed then that would prob end W3 completely in a month.
8. Fix them already borderlands offer nothing now and are practically deserted since the removal
9. Still nothing gained so nobody will rely do it.
10. Camps still way too easy to take. I can basically solo a camp fully upgraded. A 5 man team can take a camp in less than 30 sec. Stupid practice and upgradeing the camp should make it worthwhile not just a cash sink for nothing.
11. point still holds fair.
contradictions.
Removing an item is not fixing it. hacks/cracks abuse still play a big part in the game and have not been addressed in months.
I did state in current maps. some paths take almost 5 min to complete while others take 40-50 sec. also the ease that people can get “behind the lines” to take supply camps/jump yaks is way to easy. there should be zones that are inaccesable intil you take out certain keeps/towers
Is this real life?
Is this just fantasy…..
The city is dying.
Music is dying.
WvWvW is dying.
@Jedahs
I think you need some rest. Seriously just rest (do dungeon/disable B shortcut button/get some life) for this week (until match reset).
And you need to have more trust in your server and your guild. Don’t be: if I am not there, our server will lose; if I am not there, my guild will be broken.
Get some rest. Its better than you die.
If you are really a co-owner with over 500 employees, you should know this better than I am.
@Umeil
2. No, due to culling issue it becomes: Ghost Wars 2
(edited by deviller.9135)
I’m on a t1 server, we’ve been nr 1 for a few weeks, having had to fight our kitten of to stay there against an extremely dedicated nr 2, the old champions.
Now we’re taking a break, and the world isn’t ending.
SURPRISE!
Taknig a break doesn’t make us “mundane” or “common”, it simply knowing that sometimes, people ahve other kitten to do.
I’m pertty sure the French will need to take a break soon too, we’ve had it a bit easier than them because we have a large group of Russians and even we needed a break.
If you are willing to jeopardise your health for something like this, YOU have a problem.
Regardless of what people say about commitment to other people, this is purely about being on top. Accept you can’t be the top dog at all times and that some things are more important than others.
And this is from a competitive person who takes extreme pleasure from winning.

I will attempt this one more time.
2.) Guild Wars is just a name for this game, what your perception of what that should involve in the game itself is just that; yours and only yours. You are entitled to your perception of what the game should be like, but that still does not change what it is.
3.) Removing the Orbs was a quick fix to prevent griefing. Yes culling is still a big problem and they released a patch to the culling system in an attempt to mitigate some of the issues, it in no way was a fix to the problem, it was an attempt to optimize the current system. As I said earlier this is a much more complex issue than you think, and to fix it properly takes time. There are only so many people in ANet that can fix these issues and they have to make decisions to prioritize some things over others. Yes they are working on WvW, is it the top priority right now? I don’t know. But you cannot say that these issues are not being addressed.
4.) Yes they are fixing the classes. They are fixing them incrementally, one small patch at a time. Then they gauge the results and tweak it again. It is getting fixed slowly over time, not in one big change that may break things further.
5.) How is this part of additional incentive to play WvW?
6.) See #2
7.) That is your opinion, I respectfully disagree, and fully agree to disagree about this issue.
8.) See #3. This is a very complex issue involving learning how the hacks on the orbs were implemented and possibly changing how the backend of server/client interaction works. It is a major change that needs time and manpower to fix.
9.) If you want to keep winning in WvW you need supply that is your gain/incentive.
10.) So? take it back with a 5 man team in less than 30 seconds.
11.) Uh, not if you use strategy to nullify that advantage.
Direct Contradictions:
1.) I did not say that it was fixed, I said that the hacking issue was addressed. It is a temporary fix, but would you rather they left the hacking in the game while they are fixing it?
2.) No, just no. What you are proposing will make gameplay stagnate. Getting behind enemy lines is a valid strategy. If you take that out what you get is everyone, and I mean everyone on the front lines. It would be several massive zergs fighting on the front line.
That’s it I am done, I am not responding to you on this issue anymore. If you can’t accept my arguments that’s fine, suffice to say I disagree with you.
Lol, Jedahs.
Respect for your dedication, I’m in the same boat about playing non stop. But you are on one of the servers with the bet coverage capabilities. Try playing on a NA heavy server that manages to stay in tier 2 second place against IoJ and Blackgate, I see people play for days without sleeping. You can afford to sleep some with SoS coverage, mate. Ratings don’t drop so easily.
Please answer to this question. What (you think) could be the worst imaginable scenario that could happen if you actually played for like two hours per day, only when you have the time for it?
What would be the result? How much would it affect your server score? If your server actually didn’t end up first, what would happen? If you end up first, what is the reward? Is it worth it for all it takes away from you?
“That is what being a leader is all about. We have to do the dirty work so that our people can live normal, comfortable lives.”
What a terrible reasoning and martyrship. You are willing to give up your health and well-being so that other people can “enjoy a bigger point tally in a video game competition, which ultimately gains you nothing.” The other people, I think, understand the very substance of the game way better than you do since they aren’t sacrificing their well-being for it and consequently won’t expect you to do so either.
You are demanding a fix from arenanet. What is your suggestion to make it different? My suggestion for you is to examine your life values. What’s actually important in life for you?

I can’t believe this thread is actually happening…
Jedahs, you’re the leader of MERC, a “1300 member” guild, yet I barely see you guys during prime time. You were absent from the game for like a month, and guess what, everything was fine! Just leave the game alone if it’s making you feel like you’re going to die, it won’t matter.
PRX left the server, and look, we’re still doing fine. They were about 100 times better than your guild.
You are not important, you are not Sea of Sorrows, you’re just one guy.
Jedahs is an excellent commander and a good guy, I had the opportunity to speak to him when I transferred to SoS for a week to grab my green nodes for world completion and scout out a potential new home. There’s no reason to flame him for his opinion.
To an extent he is right, there are many players in both Tier 1 and Tier 2 that can not control themselves and play ridiculous amounts of hours. But I don’t think there is anything that should be done about that. Disabling WvW for a certain period of time so a few players can get sleep at the expense of other players is not a feasible solution.
What are the solutions you are purposing?

Offense intended, but you pure white guys seem to only camp the jumping puzzle, while Merc fights at all hours. Stop stirring about trouble, spoon.
Not really intended to be offensive, just kind of how it is. You can’t boast 1300 members, when less than 100 are active. That’s less than 10% of a guild.
I’m not sure how you’ve come to that conclusion, but I never do the jumping puzzle… I know a few guys like to do it after our official runs end, but that’s it…
There may be a few MERC guys running around at all hours of the day, but that does not equal organised coverage.
My point is, we lost PRX – who were apparently the best guild on our server – losing a few MERC guys isn’t going to be anywhere near as big of a hit…
Take some time off, WvW is going to be pretty crappy until at least February..
