Retroactive Proofs for WvW players are a must
everyone starts with 0 elite hero point.
Where’s the source on this? I have 398 (EDIT: 214, actually) spare Hero Points on my Thief who has 100% world completion and 100% of all core skills and traits, I believe I can use those 214 to unlock my new Elite Specialization and the associated skins, no?

Why do you feel entitled to unlock everything immediately but those who only PvE won’t be able to?
And I don’t think you can have 398 spare hero points. According to the wiki you get 398 from levelling and there are 214 available in tyria:
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Hero_point
So you should only have ~214 spare. Reportedly we will require ~250 to unlock everything.

My bad, I do only have 214, I confused it with the 398 you get for leveling.
And I’m not saying I’m entitled to anything more than a PvE player. I have 9 alts, 10 characters total. Theoretically, I could have been earning those Hero Points for 3 years now. If I had 214 on all my characters, I am “entitled” to unlock however much 214 Hero Points gets me per character towards my Elite Specialization when HoT drops.
Now, ArenaNet, as developers, have put a system in place that says that leveling up in WvW (gaining 5000 WXP) gives you a certain amount of progression towards Hero Points, too. Maybe each 5000 WXP is one Hero Challenge. Maybe you only get one every 25,000 or 50,000 WXP (5 or 10 ranks). I don’t know. But ArenaNet has decided that there is some new equivalency here. But the WXP I’ve earned isn’t new. I’ve been earning WvW experience for 3 years, just as some people have been doing Hero Challenges as part of World Completion for 3 years.
So why should a person who’s done 214 Hero Challenges on every character be able to get 214/250 (85.6%) of their Elite Specialization line done on day one, when a person who’s leveled up 1900 times in WvW have 0/250 (0%) towards their Elite Spec on day one? There needs to be parity.
That’s all I’m saying, sorry if it wasn’t clear. I’m not asking for anything more than PvE players, I’m simply saying that PvE players have been able to put in work from August 2012 – October 2015 that will now count towards their Elite, WvW players should be afforded the same courtesy.

Parity is impossible because hero challenges are a finite resource and WXP is effectively infinite. Like I said in another thread what we’re getting is a good compromise and more than what I or probably anybody was expecting (which was to actually do the hero challenges). I normally hate entitlement being bandied around but this seems a clear cut example of it.

You’re correct that it’s not going to be a precise exchange, but surely they can devise some sort of a system that gives a somewhat fair ratio of points to people. Maybe it’s 10:1 Level-to-Proof. Someone like me with Rank 1900 would only get 190 Proofs, not even enough for one full character. Sure, there’s people who would probably get 300 Proofs, or maybe even 500, I don’t know what the highest WvW rank is, but surely we can live with these few outliers getting a bit of an advantage for the sake of everyone who has even just a little bit of WvW rank getting something out of their time there and not starting from scratch.
Getting nothing for past WXP while PvE players get full value for their past hero challenges, when Anet themselves have declared these to be equivalent, is categorically not a “compromise”, I’d encourage you to have higher standards for your expectations. Why would you possibly settle for something like this? Stick up for yourself. Don’t defend something that mathematically defrauds you of your valuable time.

I see no issue with WvW players getting retroactive HPs for WvW ranks. Pretty unfair if PvE gets them for levelling and skill challenges. So, if you have more than, say, 612 WvW Ranks (398 + 214) then you should get the unlock immediately?
Because this is a feature comming with the expansion, being able to purchase elite specs. Anyone has to work for it, the positive is that if u strictly wvw u will have a way to gain HP, because u wouldve wvw anyway.
I used to be a power ranger, now not sure anymore
This would only be possible with 2 currencies. 1 for old hero challenges and 1 for new.
They could then make a pool from your old proofs, put them into your wallet and let each character buy the non hot HP.
But I guess this is too complicated.
The biggest problem after all is that you can gain an undefined amount of HP for of wvw so you will have an advantage with the next elite specs if you wvw a lot.
All we wanted was a GvG.

That’s true, although 250 WvW levels (and that’s assuming a 1:1 ratio, which might not be the case), especially for people with many alts, is nothing to shake a stick at at all. Even with my 1900 ranks, (which is well above the above average amount of WvW play, I’d say) 1900 divided by 250 is only 7.6, meaning I wouldn’t even be able to get the Elite Spec for each unique class unlocked. If you made it a 2:1 or 5:1 ratio, the advantage of even the most veteran WvW players would be very small, and I’d say that putting that many hours into that gamemode, or any gamemode, means that they deserve it.
I think someone on Reddit did World Completion in 35 hours or something like that on a speedrun. You can probably do just the 214 Hero Challenges much faster. I don’t know how many ranks you’d get during 35 hours on a WvW K-Train, but I’d wager it’s not too far off from 214. So ANet should base their ratio on that and act accordingly.
My point is, WvW players should get something, anything really, for the hours they’ve put in thus far, just like people who completed Hero Challenges when they already had everything unlocked on their characters.
As for what you said about currencies, I don’t see why there’d need to be 2. You could even do it as items, as the blog post makes it sound. Simply mail the first character you log into after HoT launches a chest filled with X amount of Proofs the character has earned based on their WvW rank, then that character can buy as many Notarized Scrolls as they can (214 for Central Tyria + (5 * the number of new Hero Pts in Maguuma)), then you can put the excess Proofs, if any in your bank and do the same for all your other characters until you run out. Or maybe you don’t want the Elite spec for that first character, so you put them in your bank right away and distribute them however you like. Who knows? This would actually obviate the problem of Hero Points not being account-bound, though I actually don’t know if ANet can ship people multiple stacks of 250 items in one single chest in the mail. But I’m sure that wouldn’t be an awful problem to fix.

I think a 2-3x increase would adjust the HP to that it’s still harder than PvE but at least obtainable in a realistic time frame.
