Solo Roaming
The lower the tier the better.
Alpine Borderlands are always a good bet for roaming. It’s wide open and there’s plenty of space to see incoming zergs or ganks. Roaming in EBG is pretty suicidal, especially if you’re in a high tier. It can be done if you’re running something with high mobility and good map awareness, though.
Solo roaming has always been a dangerous hobby. You can’t expect to live long if you’re not using something with high mobility and either the skill or the build to deal with multiple players.
“Old school” roaming is pretty much dead, yes. That kind of roaming was doing PPT work and sabotaging the enemy by killing their tower defenses and contesting waypoints. Some of the very stubborn individuals still do it but with the buffed objective defenses and higher map populations it has become significantly more difficult.
You can still solo roam if you’re interested only in fighting and capping sentry’s. If you want to oldschool roam, which is a combination of a number of things, you’re going to have a hard time no matter the tier really.
Just remember one thing: “True legends never die, they respawn”!

Meh, idk about you but I still get to solo towers even at T1. However what I want I hardly find which are people with balls to fight out of their zerg.

I see very very very little roamers these days. I feel like the game is just prime time for a few hours, then it’s dead. Pretty boring and pathetic state right now.

You made a horrible, horrible mistake transferring up. As you well know, T4 has got all sorts of people who are afraid of large crowds….

Bruh, I transfered to FC. I didn’t expected Yak’s Bend to skyrocket their way to the top of T1 after ending at bottom of T3.

The only time I get to solo towers is if it’s retaking one of our own.
Finding fights isn’t an issue because I know where to look for them. And that’s not stalking zergs expecting people to fight me who are probably running builds that aren’t optimized for 1v1’s. If you want cheap wins, go to EOTM and knock people off cliffs.

I roam in T1 all the time but it pretty much require condi cheese builds designed to fight outmanned and sustain. Its much more fun to run 2-4 man havoc groups with power builds.
Protip – go to desert border, lol. Its always abandoned and usually only got small amounts of players capping camps and fighting over any tower thats not T3.

I still take southern towers in the enemy borderlands by myself quite frequently. Not on NA primetime sure. But T1 is known for having people on every timezone.

If by fights you mean thieves (or any other high mobility profession build) that will run the the nearest tower/camp as soon their HP start to drop. Yeah sure, I find plenty of that already… The only “soloers” you’ll find are people that are ready to disengage as soon they start losing. Hell, I even encountered a Norn Reaper other day that was running Snow Leopard Elite… But people actually trying to put their skills to test? Nope. That’s quite a rare sight.
It’s mostly group roaming nowadays anyway… Solo roaming is dead. All that there is are ‘fighters wannabe’ scouts.

If Anet does some profession balancing for WvW I’ll happily put my skills (or lack of them) to test. Until then, I’ll disengange without remorse when encountering one of these “skillful” roaming builds. You want to feed your ego in duels? Go play sPVP.
It’s just too many disgusting no-balls bunkers running around this days. There is little interest in fighting 1v1 people who are carried by their builds.
I see lots of bunker Druid, d/d Thief and PU condi Mesmers runing solo …. (Funny is also necros, but they tend to be victims ….)
I personaly run a power warrior or hybrid tempest. The warrior is capable to win and catch them all, the tempest gets often killed by the mesmer and stalemates or wins the others. The mesmer is propably the strongest duel option. Just avoid that match …
So i do solo or duo roam and have fun with it. Somtimes i get Zerged. So know when to run. High mobility is important. I have permaswiftness on both romers i play.
While my tempes is more resilient when outnumbered, the warrior gets more kills due to all the gap closers.

since every server can get linked next MU, its pretty useless to waste gems for transfers. Roaming is still viable on every server, if one linking gets you 70+ queues on every border, just wait for the next linking and farm some wxp with your blob in the meantime.
Solo roaming is a tough road these days. Most roamers now run in packs and typically show up with bunkers and strong condi. I still solo roam but like most have resorted to a strong condi build centered around defensive and offensive sustain rather than burst. It is the only way I can handle the constant out numbered situations.
Fezzik: “Well, I haven’t fought one person for so long. I’ve been specialised in groups, battling gangs for local charities, that kind of thing.”

“You use different moves when you’re fighting half a dozen people, than when you only have to be worried about one.”
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”

If people are going to disengage, why engage a fight in the first place?

I roam in the higher tiers to increase my odds of running into opposing roamers. There’s nothing more disappointing than circling around an entire map and not running into anybody.
If you see an enemy group you can’t take, don’t engage. If they’re trying to close for a gank and you lack mobility, wp out and go elsewhere. If they stealth in and pop you, be satisfied in the fact it took three of them (just picking a number) to murder you, and continue on with your day.

I regulary meet diffrent group sizes and either fight or stay away. If i get the drop i usually go for 1:2 often and let 3+ aside. Two days ago i saw a necro and a druid killing an ally. Came in just after the finisher going for necro first throwing him around like a ragdoll for a good revenge on the kill winning this 1:2. And it is possible to run a while and meet no one even when outnumbered. Some zerg elswere i don´t care much.
The only viable solo roamers right now are Mesmer, Thief, Druid, and, in certain scenarios, Warrior.
Running alone in small scale WvW is generally unwise, even with high mobility and stealth. Lower tiers nets lower quality opponents, which makes it easier to fight outnumbered, but high tier fights are more challeging amd require efficiency to win the fight before help arrives.

It’s much more enjoyable to find a small team v team … like 3-4 versus 3-4 …. some of those battles have been the most fun I’ve had. Won some , lost some … don’t care… but on top of your play it kinda relies on group synergy or team work. Granted a team on voice comms together should beat a non-comms group.
I’ve encountered a few solo roamers say when I run my dailies, first thing log on get it out of the way… every now and then I see someone at say – a ruin/shrine or a dbl camp/along the long kitten road to dbl camp.
Best tip I can give is to go to neutral territories to find the roamers. Most still flock around the common areas. Don’t go looking for roamers in your home BL at NE or NW camp or the northern BL nodes. Most activity on ABL always happens between the southern towers.
