The tier 1 merry-go-round will continue on and on and on no matter what system they use because of a huge mass of fair weather players and guilds in the top 4 servers. The same thing that happened the last 3 times BG went to T1. Well, here we are. Our community is a pretty tightly knitted.

I’m pretty sure you can fight, take days off and not pull 14 hour shifts on any server…Nothing about SoS requires them to take 14 hour shifts.

They should do away with scores and bring back orb of power that give tangible benefits to the entire server.

I am upset for only the reason that T2 was one of the most fun matchups I have ever played and it really sucks that the hopping guilds are going to ruin it (though I’m sure this was not their intention).

FoE and Agg were just about managable during reset night, but the addition of 1,000 WvW players has a huge effect on the matchup (look at this weeks ratings compared to last week). Now they are getting 3 more guilds?? 5 in total??!! Well honestly that is a ridiculous amount for an already extremely strong server. Its like a whole T2/3 server just upped and joined BG in terms of the strength that adds.

Gonna be sad to lose them. I certainly learnt a crap tonne from HB and really enjoyed the fights with KnT, RK and the other bread and butter guilds that make the server so competitive.

No doubt BG will be permanent T1 now and to be completely honest I dont think anyone can beat them. Not only will they have incredible coverage, but very talented and well co-ordinated guilds. I hope they dont reach number 1 and then realise they have made a horrible mistake and way overstacked a single server.

So much for SoS’er’s server pride. :P

How many SoS guilds transferring now were transfers to SoS as opposed to guilds that had been there since launch?

no kidding, I dont understand why SoR is being overlooked in this mess… But I gotta give credit to BG, they are just better at recruiting, even when both SoR and BG were in T2 for months.

I would be really surprised to hear BG guilds like HB, Thai, Nine Dragon, RIOT etc. etc would pay anyone anything to come to BG. Since you know all the facts maybe you can enlighten us which guilds on BG would give 2k to FoE or AGG. I can say that RIOT hasn’t and never will help anyone (other than our own members) move to BG. As a small skirmish guild, we don’t particularly like seeing more huge zerg guilds come to BG. Kaineng and TC in Tier 2 are offering us lots of great mid-sized fights! While we need the zerg guilds to maintain a healthy WvW environment for us (Tier 4 was so dead during the NA evenings that our players got bored), Tier 1 is a massive zerg fest. On the weekends we were often forced to zerg or log out.

That all said, we still wouldn’t move off of BG even if (or rather when) we move back to T1. BG is simply an awesome server, and we’ve never regretted our move to it. I don’t blame these guilds at all for wanting to join us. Let me explain why…

A lot of servers that were at the top have been completely gutted when a few key guilds have chosen to leave. Blackgate is the one server that I can think of that has been bumped out of T1 multiple times, lost major guilds, and still maintained it’s core membership despite these facts. Large competitive guilds like HB, KnT, ICoa, LOTD, EA, Thai, Urge, etc. have stuck together through thick and thin. Guilds on other servers have noticed this, and it makes Blackgate an attractive server to join.

Call us a bandwagon server if you want, but there is a certain solidarity on BG that will survive whether or not we lose or gain guilds.

Mass server hopping sucks. It happens, will happen again, no way to avoid it. Not judging those that have, are about to…….or soon will…. just saying, it sucks.

Well to be fair, SoR did A LOT better with receiving guilds before free transfers ended than BG did. The balance of perception ebbs and flows quite a bit over time, and I think transfer consideration has a lot to do with a server’s current position in the rankings, community perception, really good timing and a lot of luck. It has nothing to do with being a good or bad server at recruiting (in my opinion), but a rather unique combination of the above variables.

I love SoR, you guys are awesome.

You have the best Americans in the game, the only Americans that could ever compete with you was the all star Sea of Sorrows Americans, which included PRX. Those were the days, some of the highest standard of fighting ever witnessed in this game was had in tier 2. It was SoS’s Oceanic coverage that was the difference between us.

Well, in the end the real winner here is Anet. They just made a few hundred bucks.

Sorry to see so many guilds throw in the tower. They had so much enthusiasm, but I can understand why they would get burned out when all their effort was thrown out the window by the weekday crew.

BG is not stacked. The idea is laughable. BG is now ‘competative’. BG has some highly motivated guilds as well, which will make up for the small coverage gap they have. JQ and SoR are going to have a nice challenge coming up.!

They’re making a lot more than a few hundred from this. It’s about $25 to transfer per person. I’m sure ANet is overjoyed because this is also serving as a massive gold sink from those who are using ingame gold to buy gems.

People are too obsessed with winning. I’m 99% sure that Maguuma is about the same strength it always was, and yet a formerly average server is now T3. It seems like everyone in the game bandwagoned to the upper tiers.

Right now in T2 it looks like stacking, but come T1 it’s going to be competitive.

This is a really weak move by these guilds, in my opinion. They lose a couple of weeks and go running to stack a server in hopes of winning again. I wouldn’t want these guilds to join my server, the moment it loses one week these guilds will go running to the next server.

I never got to know ND or VoTF very well, but MERC was a lot of fun to play with. Great group of people all around.

This business of ravaging servers to stay competitive in T1 will have to stop someday, it’s simply not sustainable for w3 in the long term. But at the same time, no server can compete with JQ right now unless they get a massive number of new players and some guilds that are ready to fight. It’s not an easy situation for people that want to compete.

As an individual, the only power you have is deciding whether to keep feeding the transfer beast to stay competitive in T1, or pack it in and enjoy a lower tier.

Well just like when SBI imploded, SoR got 7 guilds out of that and became stacked while BG didn’t get anything from them. Now that we’re getting 2 other guilds from SoS we’re being called a stacked server lol. I think that we do have better coverage than the other T2 servers as of now, but come T1 the match will be very even between BG and JQ to where we can actually compete for the top spot and not get a hard steam-roll.

These guilds are exactly what we needed coverage wise and I’m sure this is what mainly prompted them to transfer over (to BG) aside from our super attractive community that we have

BG is a great server, and for the most part a stable server … they have respectful players who fight fair and behave like adults both in game and on the forums. That said, I’m worried for my friends on BG. While I think you guys will assimilate the new guilds without much heartache because you’re a stable server with the above-mentioned characteristics, I worry you may suffer the fate of other servers who gained significant bodies. Stay true to who you are guys. Make sure the new folks understand the overall server mentality, and I think you’ll be fine.

Most of all, best of luck … we on TC will miss you greatly.

The fight will come during asian and NA though, it will be interesting to see who comes out on top.

Worry not, we’ve survived larger transfers and have kept a similar mentality since week one.

Exception – I’m fairly positive MERC was always on SoS but with Jedahs leaving GW2, I get the feeling it was kinda Jedahs that kept MERC on SoS, but since he’s gone, this is what happens.

Nope, that’s it as of now. Whether or not others will follow is unknown as of right now.

1-2 weeks, 3 weeks max.

It is way too costly to keep hopping around to win. It’s roughly 35 gold or $25 to transfer which makes multiple transfers in a short period of time seem unlikely.

Good point. This was not always true though. Paid transfers just occurred recently. Before then, who knows how many times guilds transferred. That’s why I was asking/guessing. I am hoping my guess was wrong of course. Fair weather fans are never a good thing.
