80Thief/80Guard
Yaksbend Commander
So my first character is a thief. I have 20k kills with him – I have played/mastered most of the common builds. P/D, D/D, S/D, S/P – Played all at a high level – Amassed 1000’s of badges. Then I rolled a guardian – With my prior knowledge of playing a thief – good thieves are good bad thieves are dead every time – and there are a lot of bad thieves
That is not a straw-man as it is not a argument but a question. See in english language the “?” denotes a question.
Why do you expect a thief defender to understand what a strawman is?
These people actually believe it’s fine that they can do whatever they want when roaming and that they get to troll everybody else in WvW.
I’ve killed my fair share of thieves and mesmers in the past.. Even killed them while paired up. The thing people need to get through to their heads is that you’ll need beat a thief/mesmer while stuck in the warrior mindset. Learn what your enemy is capable of, figure out what animation does what.. And practice.
Come back after you’ve tried the above. If not tried, your opinion is invalid to begin with.
After a 40 vs 40 zerg fight in our garrison we beat the invaders. 10 of us spent 15 minutes looking for the T&M. We know they are somewhere but we cannot kill them. Then BAM the T&M portal their 40 men zerg back into the keep. We got our zerg back quick enough to defend, but it was close. The inner gate was down and we just barely held them off at the lord’s room.
The process was repeated many times that night. Once they even tried to portal straight into lords (maybe they got 2 T&Ms not sure). Basically if we do not pay attention for 2 minutes we would lose garrison.
We had to keep 10-15 guys in the garrison constantly just to wait for the T&M portal. It makes pushing out nearly impossible, since each time we attack a tower the T&M will portal their zerg inside our garrison. Just 2 foes keep every one of us on our toes.
And to those that said just swing your sword and AoE everywhere, garrison is huge. There are plenty of places to hide. We cannot be everywhere. Locating a good thief in a fight is already hard. Now try locating T&M that dedicate themselves to hide in a huge garrison.

I wonder if some thought could be put towards an up upgrade you can do to a fully upgraded keep/tower/SM that would show stealthed players.
It’s funny how everyone not playing thief (obviously) agrees that Anet handles stealth the worst possible way someone can implement this mechanic into a game.
It’s so kitten bad they should just remove it completely already. Give thief another faceroll combo but at least make it so others can see them.
Here’s a funny video

Now count the people who are having fun. Then, after you counted, tell me why they aren’t having fun.
Did they also have this bullkitten in GW1? Wouldn’t surprise me if not because i never heard bad things about it while everyone on the internet is already kittenting on GW2.
Watched the video. It’s.. kinda, I don’t know. I don’t blame that ennemy Mesmer, he pretty much did the right things. The fact that you don’t get revealed when struck really discourages the will to use your skills in order to try to catch the Thief.

That would be an interesting idea. Almost like a prison with searchlights.

Builds like this means we got to kill both T&M at once. If we kill just 1 of them (usually the mesmer), the thief can still come back and res the mesmer.

So with that many people around.. None of you were smart enough to look for the tiny little animations that both the mesmer and thief use in order to obtain stealth? Not to mention “the inner gate was down” – That’s just plain not paying attention.
If you want to counter stealth, try using AoE knockback/knockdown. Try dazing, pulling, etc. etc. These are the mechanics designed to temporarily disable your enemy. If you see a thief use Shadow Refuge, counter it with a Mesmer’s temporal curtain pull, AoE hammer knock back from a Warrior, a Guardian with ring of warding or binding blade. The list of skills is endless. Use them.
Yes a keep is big, and yes there is plenty of opportunity to hide. But every skill in the game has a cooldown, and every skill in the game requires a certain animation before being activated.
PS: Before you try and say my main character is a thief.. Think again.

Nope, stealth didn’t exist in GW1. One of the reasons pvp was more balanced in it than in this game.
“The fact so many thieves are horrible at PvE is proof that this class is really not all that great”
this is stupid. My bleed/life drain tanky build is almost unkillable in pve.
I’d say fix the c/d wall exploit and make the 10 minute afk timeout have no workaround when you are dead. I personally have no problem sitting on a mesmer’s body for 10 minutes. But once the 10 minutes are up and the body is still there I get really annoyed.
As far as a thief/mesmer combo simply hiding in a keep while still alive, I say GG, sweep better.
I like stealthing around the supply depots and npc’s. I also like using siege that is build to cloak and dagger. I never use walls to cloak. Good thieves dont have to.
random smoke aoes are nearly impossible to see and keeps are huge places.
Theres a big red circle to help point it out for you. If you can’t see it and your only argument is “the place is too big!”
Then it’s a L2P issue.
I love it when thief players defend their profession with most ridiculous comparisons and use the term “learn 2 play”.
Stealth is utterly broken, especially in WvWvW. Stealth = unfun for all those who are not using it. WvWvW would be better with the stealth and teleportation mechanisms completely removed or reworked.
LOL complains about ridiculous comparisons….makes a ridiculous comparison * face palm * ( I cut it out to prevent a sweet wall o text)
I love the glass cookie cutters that come complain about thiefs XD
For someone with 8 profession ( true or false I dont really care either way) I would think you would have know thata thief with out stealth/teleport is just an extremely subpar ranger.
Ill issue you a sweet challange. Make a wvw video of you playing a thief, using any build you want but restricted from using stealth/ tele skills( also included is cnd and blind jumping) . Then come back and tell us of the glorious fun you had during that time.
too hard? heres a 2nd option you can use stealth and tele but ONLY gained from your healing and optional skill slots.
Its the attitude of a typical thief and shows how intelligent they actually are. Most thieves prefer to call you noob for not being able to combat their broken stealth mechanic instead of giving insight on how to fight a thief. That also shows how mature most thieves are too – not very.
XD prides himself for being “mature” comes to the forums in tears XD

as long as no hacking/glitching involved, looks OK to me…. working as intended……
Working as intended, but the intent appears pretty dumb.

GW2 has game mechanisms similar to FPS game. Now imagine a FPS game, where there are several professions. One profession, let’s call it infiltrator, can become invisible when he wants and no enemy action can reveal him from invisibility. Even if infiltrator walks into a cloud of smoke or enters water or enemy makes him bleed like hell, infiltrator is still invisible. And enemy with a rifle cannot even target him. While he is invisible the rifle bullets just don’t hit him even if you guess his exact location. He also does huge damage, his attacks are blindingly fast and he can teleport as well, move 50% faster while being invisible. Then we have another profession, let’s call it soldier, who has better armor, higher health, but his high damage attacks are slowly telegraphed and very easily dodged. Would this game be balanced? Hell NO.
And what specifically does this have to do with thieves hiding inside keeps? If you cannot see a red aoe blinding circle and know a thief is hiding in the keep, then there is nothing Anet can do for you.
FYI, CnD is easily predictable and dodgeable. Black powder heartseeker is a different story.
And this isn’t an FPS. Why are you using a comparison like that? This is an MMO. View it as one. As an avid FPS player, this is in no way has more than a few mechanisms close to an FPS. The comparison doesn’t work.

just thinking…. i am actually no thief, but a mesmer. and i read a lot of threads here in this forum. s.o. would also know me from defending the mesmers profession and so on.
Now i can say that always the thiefs, mesmers and ele’s are the classes to complain about. Always the ‘nerfing’ startegys, needs, and more because you most of you cant deal with it. you are taking our fun and wont even recognise it. its the thiefs mechanic to be in stealth mode and be acrobatic, its the mechanic of the mesmer to have tons of “babys” (clones) and feed you with them, and its the ele’s mechanic to be invulnerable or a mass AoE dealer…
We are not OP, we just have skill and have to deal with the situation. Wont say that a warrior dont have skill or sthg like that (know some which had alot of skill, even with kittenty gear, now they are OP-like).
Just saying, what about nerfing the necros sigils, take away the warriors GS or take away the Guardians healing power or whatever. or even better. just give uss 1 class, 1 trait, 1 skill, and the autoattack, and dont forget to nerve the gear to 0 and/or kill all races so that only a glob of sthg will stay with 1 skill, 1 weapon and 1 trait with the same gear and more.
ill think that you also complain and be kitten on us. all this nerfing/buffing is kitten.
Think of it.
