Since YB moved up to T2 we’ve been having a blast. Feels like a very even game there right now. Note how I said “game” and not that other word that would get the thread locked?
Given a choice between the 2, go JQ without question (I’m on TC). The last thing BG needs is any more players.
Solo roaming during NA primetime won’t be that rewarding unless you want to act as a scout or change your build when a larger fight occurs. There are blobs running around and small havoc groups and just random players who show up to a camp when the timer expires. If you just want to wander around looking for fights, this is not the tier unless you’re a thief who likes trolling people in zerg builds with your dueling spec.
Aside from reset night, there are no queues aside from EB on occasion.
TC is actually winning this week (I know, I’m shocked too!). I can only imagine that BG and JQ are having a “rest week” since the tournament is now over.
I’m not surprised at all.
TC has always had probably the most stable overall population of any realm, even more so with the post season 1 SoR transfers. We tend to do better out of season than in season historically (S2 being an exception), because we have a number of people playing for the sake of playing.
The other realms tend to be more focused about scores ‘when it really matters’, or even frankly when that next content update hits.
Things’ll even out again, and come the hint of another tourney, we’ll be fighting to hold our ground once more, particularly when the more ‘serious’ WvW’ers come back.

Successful solo roaming in T1 is possible, but resilience is key. Many new transfers come here and apply the same playstyle they learned in lower tiers.
You will get blobbed down frequently if you choose to come here – it is inevitable. But each time you learn, and apply a different tactic next time.
Soloing here is hard. I love it because of the challenge. You quickly learn how to 1vX, and how to evade larger groups. All that is required is an open mindset and a willingness to learn.
As for server choice, I would echo either JQ or TC. Especially so because you have friends on JQ.
If you want T1 SOLO roaming you’re not going to get what you’re expecting to get. As mentioned in this topic before, most people will bait you into 1vX as they’re almost always in a party with others. Roaming groups and solo roamers often run cheese no skill builds, are either extremely bad players or extremely good, and will kitten talk you in whisper then immediately block you regardless of whether the fight was fair. (My guild leader has a constantly expanding screenshot thread on his website of whispers he’s received in WvW from angry players.) If you want to see what T1 roaming is like, watch some Twitch streams (guilds like Veretta’s oPP do streaming often.) Nirvana and DemonCow both give good examples of what the current T1 servers are like (zerging and roaming wise) so if you transfer to a T1 server you will most likely end up joining a havoc guild or zerging guild, or both.
If you’re that insistent on T1, be prepared to get zerged, siege trolled and hit large queues during NA prime, then get zerged 10 more times because you killed 1 person (this happens regardless of the T1 server you’re on.)
I just moved to JQ and it is true that roaming is more of a challenge. You just have to learn which camps are safe for flipping, how to pick your fights, and also how to play peripheral to larger encounters. Catching a BG ppt tryhard zergling away from his main group is so satisfying.

I disagree. I’m a bit of a zergaholic though, dropping wells and watching the other side melt is a passion of mine. As for roaming I mostly don’t, but when I do I bring a cheese build mesmer so I can escape when needed. T1 roaming is what you make it, but I would suggest making and using a build that can get out of the way of the runaway train when need be. As for me I’m on TC, but I have frienemies on JQ so either is a good choice.
Roaming has been dead for awhile on t1, back months ago it was better.
Now you’re lucky to find anything but the odd 5-7 group running around. That was fine back when I still had a group of friends, but everyone I knew has pretty well quit the game. I only log in about once a week myself.
