I am an avid WvW player only pve when I have to gather stuff for legendaries. I am happy to be getting more skirmish tickets which will make getting the Warbringer backpiece much faster. What I failed to see (until now) the last Commanders Wings of War you MUST own a Commanders Icon. NOW I HAVE TO spend 300gold on a commanders icon (which i will NEVER USE) just to get the legendary backpiece.

I think it’s ok, since legendaries are expensive, it’s a way to make it expensive and to make it match the theme (commander’s back, thing like that)

I don’t see it as a useless thing since, even after getting the back, you can still use the commander tag (it would have been a realy waste if you had to throw the tome in the mystic toilet) but as it is right now, it’s ok.

What is worst between this back, and the one from fractals ?

According to gw2efficiency, you’ll spend 1300gold (so 1600 with the commander tag) for the wvw back
But you’ll spend around 2k gold for the legendary fractal back.

1.6k gold + a commander tag that is useful in some situations (pve thingy)
2k gold and nothing else with.

So i don’t think the commander tag must be removed or something. Plus, we’re talking about a legendary item, which is, by definition, expensive.

You’re basically just crafting the gift of fortune, and buying the commander tag, and you’re done with the back, it’s quite easy atm (yes you have to collect skirmish tickets, but hey that’s a wvw item, so ofc you have to play wvw a lot (around 8weeks))

This is a really dumb complain.
The thing has the term “legendary” right… so it costs money, deal with it. Remove the com tag req for it and rather have the gold sink into something else that costs money and DOESNT benefit you in the end? Like… even if you dont tag up ever in your life, you still have it. If you went for the frac backpack you’d pay a heck lot more and have no tag for it in the end.

oh I have. I understand warbringer is easier to get if all you do is WvW but to SPEND 300gold on something your never going to use. The PvP legendary backpiece YOU DONT spend that. I rather put the 300g on a precursor for a legendary weapon. With all the easy ways to get an ascended backpiece I can have a 1000000 ascended backpieces than 1 legendary for 300gold with the same stats lol.

I am not a commander and never will, i dont lead. When i saw you needed the tag to buy that backpiece i was like why? I prefer to spend that in any other thing than the tag, i wont use it nor care. That really kitten me off

So many commander tags out there and we need more inexperienced pvers to tag up in wvw all for a really hard to get legendary back piece NOT! Anyone that does wvw and has a commader tag can get it. It’s not exclusive in any way so stop making out like it is seriously. Good on op for not wanting a commander tag and standing up for something they believe in.

You have not read my post properly because your only thinking about mats. The op does not want a commander tag . Commander tags can be used in wvw, pve and pvp game modes. When you have to make the pvp and pve back piece do you have to have a commander tag for them . No you don’t. Instead of a commander tag it should be replaced with a wvw trophy that you have to buy with say 100,000 badges. It would suit wvw players more than a commander tag that every game mode has and wvw players would have something to work towards. It would also give badges another purpose. Also i have a commander tag that i bought for 100g not 300g 5 years ago.

300g for a commander tag that stays with you till you quit the game. acc bound. Or do you prefer many of the other mats you need on legendaries instead of this? THink its way cheaper then all the gifts that are not required for Warbringer.

i think Warbringer should have the precursor Catmander tag instead of the regular ones, think of Warcry as just a material in making it.
so i can camp on the Yellow or Blue kitten to kill all PvE collector kittens
that way i can just press 1 while on autotarget and autoloot and sell the bags they drop till i got 300 gold

To put it plainly, all legendaries involve buying or crafting items that are ultimately useless outside of enabling the creation of the legendary itself. Some are just collection items that you delete afterwards. Others involve crafting tons of useless weapon components that you simply donate to some nameless NPC afterwards. All of them are massive gold sinks.

Do you know what the main difference here is? The commander tag at least has a use outside of simply enabling the legendary to be completed. I’d much rather spend 300 gold on a tag that has other functionality, than spend the same amount crafting components I simply donate to an NPC and never see again, even if I just so happen to rarely if ever use the tag thereafter. It’s like killing two birds with one stone.

Try to think of it as if you are paying 300 gold to craft a legendary, and getting a free commander tag as a bonus, rather than the other way around, because if the tag cost was not there, they would have incorporated that gold cost in some other way. You would have not avoided it regardless, but at least this way you get something decent out of it.
