Don’t even need to waste blast finishers on light fields, so many better fields to drop a blast on.

Perhaps if retal scaled with the triggering skill, since several of my high-frequency skills hit for considerably LESS than retaliation, and most of the advantages of these skills (think Omnomberry ghosts) have all been put on cooldown, so that there is no benefit for me to use them.

I think it was mentioned already, but this seems quite unreasonable to stack even the nerfed retal damage against a flamethrower power build, where each tick of the 10 total will hit for less than the retaliation from just one target (assuming soldiers rare heavy armor for the applier of the retaliation). And each tick can hit up to 5 targets.

If this were scaled to skill damage, non-linearly up to the old baseline (or a new one preferably), it would be a bit more fair to the down scale damage skills, perhaps using each skills coefficient in the equation with a coefficient of 1 being the cap. Otherwise this just encourages [Heartseeker] zerk builds, that deliver MASSIVE damage in just a few shots causing a miniscule amount of retaliation damage.

If this were an issue of I do damage to someone, and then they actively do damage back to me, I wouldn’t care; but this is I do damage, get MORE damage back from retaliation, and then it’s my targets turn.

For instance, set Retaliation at old baseline, with the damage calculation somewhere along the lines of (Current Equation)(Skill Coefficient^2) cap it at a coefficient of 1 with no cool down. Even low-power builds won’t be unfairly compromised by this damage.

This would allow for low damage multiple skills to still be subject to retaliation, but without the baked-in low damage penalty. This will still affect high-damage multi-hit skills considerably more, to preserve the intent (as it has been speculated on this thread) that retaliation was designed for.

I’m surprised nobody’s been complaining about this till now. I realized retal was still full damage (and possibly even buffed) on borderlands and only nerfed on EB after a couple hours of play right after the patch when live. Retal spam in zergs and retal mesmers are out of control right now on border maps. Guards and retal spam engies are very annoying as well, but not quite so bad since you only proc once per attack.

How does a mesmer cause multiple procs of retal per attack? Are you sure you aren’t talking about confusion and retaliation?

Unless you are killing clones en mass, I don’t see how this could happen. (And if you are killing clumped up clones you deserve to die, you realize that killing them applies stacks of confusion in a smart build, correct?)

Are you asking how does a Mesmer take Retaliation damage? It’s easy: Cast Feedback, or Temporal Curtain (Warden’s Feedback Major Trait)
