Some simple tweaks to waypoint mechanics could really add some more depth to the competitive aspect of WvW while also indirectly helping in other ways.
Right now is a very clunky process both for waypointing to a contested keep as well as attempting to take a keep with a WP. If I’m in EB and spam Garrison WP, whether I actually end up in Garri or at Citadel just depends on how fast my BL screen loads. Also when I’m taking a keep that seems empty and get to the lords room and have a 40-man blob land on my head with no warning, it’s a bit frustrating.
This could work MUCH better with some very simple tweaks:
First – waypoints stay contested for 5 seconds after the defense event ends. This means a sieging enemy can keep it contested indefinitely if they are not pushed off
Next – contested waypoints can still be used, but with restrictions. Either 1 player every 15 seconds, or maybe contesting it puts a 20 person limit on it and once 20 people have come through no more can.
This would allow quicker responses by smaller groups, but slower responses from bigger groups, which would help with quick responses to ninja golem rushes but at the same time you won’t have a huge blob land on you if you made it to the lords room (not that one wouldn’t run there but at least now you can see them coming).
