We all know world population =/= wvw population and we can all guest for free for pve… so, is it truly fair to tether pve population to transfer costs when the only real reason to xfer is wvw?It seems like it’s hurting the lower tiers. I ask because I see tons of issues with the cost of moving. Also, what exactly puts a server into “high” population? I’m seeing pretty much every server at high although some of these servers are ghost towns right now. So what’s the cut off?

because wvw doesn’t really have a ‘population’, it has ‘activity’… which varies in many ways, some of which are simply not predictable week-to-week.

So they use total server population since it’s the best indicator of potential activity.

Still the rank-score is the current best measure of WvW-activity or population. See https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/wuv/wuv/Free-transfers-to-small-pop-servers/2126651 for a proposal to use that for transfer costs. But as usual WvW only get not needed new WEXP-skills, instead of some urgently needed fixes and improvements.

I agree it would make sense though that they would release the information on what gives a server it’s population and how that ties in to xfer costs… there’s a lot of smoke and mirrors here and some of the servers that aren’t doing so hot can’t get the xfers they need because it costs just as much as let’s say a t3 server to move to.

That makes sense … except that cost is a pretty small factor in making players want to transfer. It does impact destination choices once they’ve decided to transfer but it doesn’t give them any reason to leave their current server.

even if you make it free, there’s got to be an incentive to make players from overpopulated server want to transfer to a smaller one. Simply lowering the cost won’t magically pull players away.

hmmm I agree

I know quite a few that have moved down because of skill lag etc. and the xfer cost def does help them choose where to go, but no one wants to get stomped week in and week out

It would have been interesting had anet done the free xfers over more than just a weekend and based on WvW population instead of general population

Even if they don’t go the free xfer route they could just lower prices and see how that works because they haven’t been stable for a while
