A game that’s 100% WvW

Do trebs help or hurt the WvW experience?
I’m starting to think they are a negative to the game overall. Mostly what they allow you to do is “safe siege” from one fort to another. Stonemist to Durios. Blue Keep to Langor. And vice-versa. In some cases the only counter to a treb is another treb and how much fun is that, really? Some towers can change hands constantly purely because one team has safe trebs to keep taking it back with. Is that fun?
And treb operation from a safe point, while strategically effective, is so boring that I’m pretty sure most people macro it. And there’s no real downside to macroing it because you are so safe, why not macro it and go watch some TV?
Wouldn’t the game be more fun without trebuchets?
No it wouldn’t.
Long story: Depending on your team and the enemy it might not be boring. We’ve had a few 4 vs 4 trebs situations (or similar) that we have only won because of our elementals. It also looks epic. Or if you place your treb as a first one, you have to watch for enemy siege that could destroy it. You can’t macro that.
Also, very often enemy team will attack you. If they’re just watching their wall going down then well, it will be boring. Guess you need go up the tiers then. Better servers shouldn’t just watch it. If you’re in T1 and it’s still boring – come EU ladder
It needs to be more engaging than pressing 2.
I spent three hours one day manning trebs and honestly never want to again. It’s dull beyond dull.
There’s my feedback ArenaNet. Trebuchets are necessary sure but boring as sin.
With 1 treb against a T3 wall being repaired – it definitely will be. I never seen a point when people treb you from SM and never come to the tower they treb – you have your supply camp so no problem repairing. Also, never seen a point in using only 1 treb. On T1 wall you just go zerg the gate with rams, on T3 you want at least 3.
Yea trebing might be boring but /shurg that is when you get / make / eat a snack or drink in process of doing it. Or talk to people in map / guild chat to distract yourself. And hell its not always just against walls i’ve switching to cows and helped counter rush zerg on keeps its tricky but possible.
What if there were no golems?
Wouldn’t the game be more fun without trebuchets?
No.
Some of the most exciting times I’ve had occurred trying to take out an opposing treb, either with “infantry” AoE or with other siege. Besides, trebs play a very strategic role and eliminating them would just narrow the scope of a game that already is probably too narrow.
Don’t you dare take away my Angry Birds and my Durios Basketball! Seriously….those holes in the top of the Tower’s domes….fun stuff to drop rocks/diseased cattle into.
Yeah, I don’t like trebs either. They make it very hard for small groups to defend.
Trebbs are fine… but I feel certain positions and placements should be blocked to promote and allow fair counter measures.
They just need to block being able to put trebs inside of stonemist.
Trebs aren’t the problem.
Bad map design letting some places treb other places that obviously weren’t intended is the problem (Like Garrison able to treb Bay)

Or Stonemist being able to treb reds Overlook?
I’m quite bored with the whole treb and counter-treb mechanic being so overly used. Sure it creates pressure to get the opposing treb down but for an “open-world” pvp game it just encourages long range bombardment not actual pvp.
Last night we had 7 players in total on a borderland and what do you know! 3 trebs up at Garrison hitting Bay outer wall while it had wooden gates! To add insult to injury they then corpse jumped us after 3 of us tried to hold the Lord’s room against 25 of them, such class I tell you.
I just think treb meta has become stale and over-used. Maybe it’s due to the map design, maybe it’s the no risk for huge advantage from elevated ground. I don’t know, personally I wouldn’t mind a change.

That’s possible only from the outer walls – easy to counter. But yes, SM has far too big advantage. You can treb 6 towers ( 2 yours includeded ) and a red keep.
As I suggested ages ago, remove trebs and have portable cannons instead that move slowly (can only be ‘carried’ by a squad?), say half normal speed, can’t be speed boosted, and cannot be built or placed in any structure.
Trebs are annoying as hell, can be built where you will never reach them, do too much damage for the supply cost. If you are going to keep them then make them cost supply per shot or supplies to maintain (taken from wherever they are placed) so they don’t have a maintenance cost if placed outside of towers/keeps – and they can be reached.
Mobile cannons would be much more fun and a way better dynamic, needing better tactics both for offense and defence.

How is doing this against a treb in any way different than the same action against a couple of catapults?
In fact, the catapults are better for this because if they’re hitting a wall, it means they are in a field somewhere and you can actually attack them. 99 times out of 100, when a tower in Eternal Battlegrounds is being trebbed, there will be no “exciting times” to counter them because they can’t be countered, except with another treb, in which case the best you can hope for is to break even.
I like trebs, but I very much dislike that you can treb a keep/tower from another keep/tower. I find that this has taken away from the siege fights that occured more often at the beginning, before people found out that they could stay in safe spots for an hour and take down a wall.
You like that you can contribute to your team, sitting in a keep while eating greasy food and touching yourself? I don’t.
Now get off of those walls and let me breathe fire on your face.
