They used to post in the WvW forums, but unfortunately, this community is rather bad and tends to work itself up into a frenzy no matter what the dev post actually says. For example:

Dev: “Season two achievement track will be slightly easier to complete than season one.” Forums: “lol idiots…all the PvEers, noooo….Anet why…hire me morons…GvG GvG GvG”

Dev: “Season two achievement track will be slightly harder to complete than season one.” Forums: “lol idiots…do you think we all play 12 hours a day? Anet why…hire me morons…GvG GvG GvG.”

It’s not that they don’t want to post here, it’s just they’ve observed that the playerbase is happier when they don’t say anything.

tl;dr Forums: the only winning move is not to play.

You guys don’t understand the logic here.

This is a ANET vs forum users thing. Last year, ANET told us that the forum users do not speak for the general WvW community. To prove their point, ANET disregarded feedback from the forum users about priorities and instead went out and created the new EotM map.

That is however a blantant lie.

People on these very forums were more or less DEMANDING something to fix the queue-times in WvW and also wanted a new map, and we got both of those things in one sweep.

But I suppose that was not what people actually wanted?

Sigh. Some people don’t get it. What people DEMAND and what people RECEIVE are not necessarily the same thing. People wanted a new WvW map, not a new KARMA train map.

I think the more correct statement would be: What people DEMAND and what people WANT are not necessarily the same thing.

What we got was exactly what was asked for. A new map and ways to play WvW while waiting for queue.
You might not like the way it was done, but it was exactly what people asked for.

I’ve said my piece here:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Our-Community-1/page/2#post3935041

The lack of communication is getting harder to deal with everyday (never mind it’s bad business) in the face of:

Competition that ends every outward bound communication with the tag line:

“…the devs are listening.”

And then seeing it in action.

Wait, we are? When did that happen? Let me go check my credit card statement…

Checked mine.

Some of us are paying for others. That’s my choice. I can. I have. I’d have to play this game for over decade and then some to “get my money’s worth”. That’s my stupid. Or my investment. Depending on how you look at it.

The game isn’t running on “free”. That’s why we are seeing some of the things that have happened, and a lot that hasn’t.

Sort of.

EotM was created specifically because WvW demand was on an unprecedented level in China pre- release so ANet needed a way to manage those numbers. EotM is really a bi-product of what current players wanted rather than what we actually wanted.

That guy who said WvW players don’t contribute as much? Every server has voice chat, a website. There’s 50+ servers. That’s thousands of dollars being paid every month by WvW players to support the community spirit that Devon Carter said the WvW team wants from us.

You are confirming exactly what I said, that isn’t contribution in the same manner. No doubt this helps the WvWers WvW, but at no stage does a PvE player ever bump into your teamspeak and say ‘oh great, this is handy to me and I will remember the TMSP guild!’. When a PvE guild is tossing out precursors to randoms who participate in a huge scavenger hunt in the old Lion’s Arch, it serves as a very public display of community building, and every PvE player who bumps into the event or the chatter about it is impacted.

Thousands of dollars spent on websites by WvWers for WvWers is great – for the people already playing WvW. It does nothing to convince Dev X that we deserve their attention, especially when one of the previously cited examples of WvWer contribution was the new match-up forums. You see players taking the initiative to support a community site – Dev X sees players so determined to talk kitten about each other they pay to sustain a separate site to do it.

The best example I can think of is a commander in EotM vs a commander in WvW: the guy in WvW probably has to work his butt off, keeping tabs on his team, the supply, the map, their seige count, maybe the chat rooms too. It’s a ton of work to be a good WvW commander, but you are only seen and known by the people already interested in WvW. A commander in the EotM is, in my opinion, significantly less burdened. But even if they are a subpar commander, they get exposure to waaaaay more players – everybody too casual or too under leveled for WvW, everybody who likes Zerg: The Game, and people who want to farm Grapes. Those people far outnumber the hardcore WvW crowd.

That’s why I said WvW players don’t contribute in the same way. Fight hard for your community, but there is probably somebody in the Vigil Keep right now dropping banners and shooting off fireworks that are going to nab way more attention. My original point was that the devs are currently serving the majority, WvW players are fringe to them.

You know, I’d rather pay for quality content. Free isn’t everything. It’s often the worst deal, actually.

And on the other hand, it sure beats paying for content that you don’t want or didn’t ask for. Having a sub fee or paid expansions doesn’t guarantee that the devs will focus on what you want or implement things in ways you approve of.

I still remember in SWTOR when the devs there removed the PVP dailies from the open world PVP planet and told everyone to do instanced battlegrounds instead because the planet was going to be redesigned due to complaints. By the time GW2 launched they still weren’t done, and shortly afterwards SWTOR went F2P because the population of the game had crashed due to lack of content all around. I never heard when or if they actually revamped that PVP planet. I remember looking at some updates for a few months afterwards and not seeing anything.

PvE guilds are very much welcome and using our TS and website. If you want good WvW, you have to build community with everyone in your community. World bosses and guild missions all show up in server event calendars.

You think without WvW players someone could Google a server and find out when there will be people running a world boss? (at least I assume that’s how it still works after the megaserver switch). We are the server community builders.

Just because your statement doesnt show up anything does not mean someone else’s doesnt.

What do you think the gem store is for?! People like fashion items, boosts etc and some people will pay money for them especially if the item is only available during a specific time.

All games need to make money, and online ones need it constantly to keep up the servers. GW1 had expansions every 6months, GW2 has the gem store.

So yes people ARE paying for it and not seeing that money put into the game mode they play the most! Hence why so many have left.

Okay, so EOTM was supposed to be a testing ground. Let’s use it….try some of the stuff we have asked for since launch and see if it truly is good or bad.

I agree that there is a ton of negative feedback on the current list of patches to WvW b/c the majority of them were frowned upon before they were launched and it’s an “I told you so” moment. Most of the proposed updates and requests have fallen on deaf ears or we get the universal answer of that takes way too much coding to and is complicated to figure out. Give me a break, we haven’t been asking for the moon here…

We wanted a GvG realm…took a dev acting like a stuck up kitten to get that one. They could have implemented that a long long time ago but only did it for PR cover your kitten reasons.

We have been asking for skins and gear in exchange for badges….Easy to do (it’s in every other type of the game) but we are still waiting on all stats of weapons, armor, and trinkets to be purchased with badges.

We want a minor commander tag or a guild commander tag. Again, not that hard to do…Look at what some people have created through the API, however, we are still waiting on minor changes that haven’t even been given the light of day.

The devs wonder why they are slammed every time they post in a WvW thread….they should listen more and give the customer what they want…and let me tell you, it isn’t sPvP. The problem isn’t that they can’t do things we want or that it will imbalance WvW or PvE. It simply is that they will be kitten ed before they ever admit they were completely wrong in the Alpha and Beta that WvW would be casual and sPvP would be king of the game. I’ll say this, companies aren’t successful by telling their customer what they will like and won’t like, but are successful by giving the customer what they want.

I’ll say this, companies aren’t successful by telling their customer what they will like and won’t like, but are successful by giving the customer what they want.

I’m reminded of a dice-and-pen-and-paper gaming store back in the 90’s. It was a shrine, the epitome of all things gaming at the time. The store was gorgeous; spotlessly clean with a dozen large glass-enclosed displays of cast figures for Warhammer and similar games running the length of the center of the store. The walls were stocked with the latest and greatest offerings. The staff were all gamers and extremely knowledgeable. Prices were high, but you did get what you paid for.

Then Magic: The Gathering hit the market. This store refused to carry the game. They even printed out a long dissertation – handing it out to anyone willing to read it – on why they thought Magic: The Gathering was the antithesis of what gaming should be along with their self-righteous justifications for not selling it in their store.

What happened? They went out of business within a couple months of the release of Magic: The Gathering.

Regardless of whether or not their argument had merit (and many may agree that Magic: The Gathering was indeed a toxic influence), they forgot one of the most important tenets of business: you give your customers what THEY want, not what YOU think they want.

The secret to achieving this is:

I think they don’t get it.

I believe that the staff’s previous interactions with the community, both in this forum and in the old match-up forum led them to believe the WvW players were loud, crass complainers. I think they don’t take any of the threads posted here seriously because of that.

I think that the flow of new meat (cough players) into WvW masks the steady stream of old dogs leaving. I suspect in terms of player population, WvW has always endured ups and downs. I don’t think there is anybody diligent enough on staff to look at the numbers and go “hmm, all but the 6 top servers lose a ton of people during these tournaments”.

I think that when Anet hears ‘we want new WvW content’, what they think players mean is a new goal to play WvW for, which is partially true. Mistforged weapons are a good example, the top servers are filled to the ears with players fighting tooth and nail for those rewards. I don’t think they see criticism of new (and old) systems as real, due to the previously mentioned ‘they are just meanies’ paradigm.

I think that the sPvP forums get significantly more attention because there is a controllable setting for balance and changes, and the critique that comes back is sometimes -very- wordy, but rarely as rude as the explosions seen on the WvW match-up forums. I don’t think they take us seriously. I don’t think they ever will. I suspect WvW will remain largely unchanged, because the capital we bring in as players is PEANUTS compared to some of the other players I know of with hundreds of dollars in gem store purchases, enormous organized guild events in cities, cosplay sessions, etc.

We don’t bring any water to town. Though I personally was sold on this game with WvW being a major element, I don’t think that has held true for the bigger part of GW2’s population. I see that the RP community was feeling wronged over the changes to wardrobes, and I see not only multiple threads responded to by devs, I see multiple threads made by devs to help remedy the situation. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt each of those upset RPers has a gem store receipt list longer than my arm. They don’t have any motivation to keep me here as a player.

TL;DR: They still have people playing WvW, that means it is ok. The community has been branded as rude and loud, none of the complaints will be heard. Serious WvWers do not usually contribute to the other community aspects of the game to the magnitude that serious non-WvW players do (which is not to insult any WvW guild’s contributions, but compared to what I have seen some of the PvE guilds do…), so there is little reason to appease us.

I just quit recently for SMITE and the only game i have been playing the last few years was guild wars 2…………..i agree that the WVW community is completely overlooked……..the player turnover in WvW makes it so they dont realize that wvw vets are leaving and there will always be a new population of players…….T1 has ques on every map during NA so thats a few hundred during primetime for the highest populated wvw servers so the total count for all wvw servers from EU and NA combined during primetime would be at 5,000ish?? the pve maps combined have 100,000+ players at any given time…… so unfortunately they will always favor the pve side of gw2 sadly……..

Esports.

WvW isn’t where the “action” or the “money” is so it will never, ever get the attention it needs even though it is the most important and people oriented part of this game.

We are not allowed to suggest or complain in regards to WvW, indeed many of our suggestions or valid complaints are “infracted”; no disrespect, no bad words, just summarily taken out of the forums without further comment except that you gained an infraction point that can shut down your account…

They will not address any mentioned problem in any manner that is “arguable” or “respond-able”.

What this has shown all is that Guild Wars 2 has a population of players in a specific area who are, have been and will be totally ignored.

NO mention of WvW in there anywhere except to say that WvW is not impacted by the megaserver march.

Your “hope” isn’t borne out by facts or by the dev’s own postings and “communications”, the latter of which is practically nil on WvW.

No.

What kind of a noose is it expecting ArenaNet (it doesn’t have to be even the busy devs, it could be a person they hired dedicated to this) to interact with this forum at least on the level they interact with other forums?

They’ve been failing on that account for nearly 2 years now. It’s about time we made noise on it and let them know it’s not acceptable. I don’t need busy programmers or whatever to come in here, like I have been saying they can hire a dedicated person.

Out of fairness, we can’t fault them for expanding the game to other parts of the world. I don’t think that keeps their community people from coming in here though.

Maybe, if we’re really lucky, the Chinese will find WvW the most enjoyable aspect of the game. If that happens, then perhaps we’ll finally see some improvements.

I’ll have to choose my wording a bit more carefully as they infracted my previous response to Hamster’s awesome post (which speaks volumes in itself). So here goes:

Perhaps if ArenaNet were to respond to the real threads, then posts such as Hamster’s wouldn’t need to be made.

I’m not entirely sure how you would qualify “real” threads
but its clear to see what the discussion on the forum happens to be circulating around.

Some threads get hundreds of responses, and tens of thousands of views, with not so much as a whisper of a dev.

hell, it would be better if there was a counter that would be able to say how many times a thread has been viewed by an Anet dev. Doesnt have to say who specifically. That alone might dispel the perception that they’re not paying attention to us.

Although I may need to run another test. I do think they’re using some kind of keyword thing to narrow down on threads to lock down

Sooooo done with this game soon as WildStar launch.

Oh… did I just mention the name of a competitor? Dev post inbound… infraction as well I guess.

I wouldn’t get my hopes up. NCSoft is the publisher for that too. And they’re really the one’s to blame for lack of development not Anet.

Follow the money.

I guess by “real” I mean anything that suggests ways to improve the game; raises concerns regarding the direction the game – or a portion of it – is heading; or even calls into question mechanics that are broken, sub-optimal, or carry undesirable – and most likely unintended – consequences.

Obviously, every thread or post that amounts to, “Your game sucks! Trolololol!” without offering any solutions or refusing to establish dialogue can be ignored. But there are – as you stated – “…threads get hundreds of responses, and tens of thousands of views, with not so much as a whisper of a dev.” These are the threads where at least a token response or acknowledgement would be welcome. Especially when there’s multiple iterations on a theme, demonstrating it’s a legitimate concern of all the people posting in and reading those threads.

And, yes, to the detractors: a dev popping in real quick to say “We hear you.” doesn’t amount to measurable action. Sure, it can be seen as irrelevant – or even dismissive – while taking valuable time away from actual development of solutions. However, when dealing with people in a business-client relationship, it’s equally important that the client feels the business is communicating with them as it is to see deliverables.

You’re right; it is about following the money. And after what has become of a franchise I loved for 7 years in GW1, my money will be following me out the door. My purchase of GW2 is the last penny NCSoft gets from me and – short of a complete divestiture from NCSoft – ArenaNet, too, for that matter.

They are notoriously famous for being fond of grinding tho. Our lives will only get worse if they base the future patches on that!

I’ve seen several closed threads, so yeah they are active and committed to the WvW community as usual.

I don’t doubt the devs read the thread but that isn’t interaction. Not the level of interaction that I and I think the rest of the community expect or that ArenaNet is able to give to other forum sections. Used to be a joke how often they posted elsewhere compared to here but after so many months I’m tired of it.

Hope that was polite enough for the moderators who I can also vouch for reading this thread.
