Why is there no ANet presence in this forum?
Most of this is a bit of a load…….EotM has all of the aspects the major threads at the time were crying for. Everyone was demanding some type of general overflow for WvW due to queues. Then the forums were arguing over choke points and weather effects, and bridges. So they gave the squabblers exactly what they remade threads on over and over. now the same squabblers cry because they got exactly what they cried for, and it turned out not to be what they wanted.
lolol. You clearly weren’t around at that time. You are only correct about one thing: people wanted a place to go when there was a queue.
No one wanted most of the rest of the stuff you mentioned. No one wanted new boss mechanics. No one wanted new PvE content in EotM. No one wanted weather effects.
If you had actually been in the beta, the comments from users was that EotM was TOO PvE. The other main comment was that there were too many chokes points and it didn’t allow for many players for group fights. Guess what changed as a result of those comments? Nothing.
Oh, and go ahead and argue my point about how ANET said directly that the forum users do not represent the views of the majority of players.
Personally I feel posters need to stop blaming the devs for avoiding the community, and start blaming the community and the fact that it makes threads like the one I linked.
Really? What a surprise!! by the way, Michael H. isn’t a developer, he is game support. He is doesn’t have ANYTHING to do making changes to WvW. nice try though… Do you even play WvW?
You should do some research before you make claims. He absolutely does participate in what occurs in wvw and the decision s the evil be it. Look it up.
post like the one you just made though are precisely why he may rue being hear at all. Good job at being part of the provlem and not the solution sir.
Seriously? While Michael H. is an awesome support guy, and I really really appreicate what he IS doing and what he is trying to do, he is definitely NOT a developer of game content, mechanics or storyline. So I guess we can assume from your answer that you pretty much only do your daily and monthly achievements in WvW and the rest of your play time is either PvE or PvP. So sad.
What is so bad in EOTM? I like it. It’s easy to jump in, casually kill some stuff and enemies in zergs. It’s pretty fun imo. The only complaints I see is in this forum, everyone else seems fine.
But lately it seems that this mode is dying out as well. There are so much less people than a couple of months ago. You literally can see how the population in this game shrinks. But that’s no surprise, regarding the lackluster and shallow ‘content’ they released in those 2.5 years. What potential, what missed opportunity. I hope for January 24, but that hope is so little… If they won’t reveal some big changes, updates, etc. I can’t see much playing this game anymore.
‘would of been’ —> wrong
What will happen in January 24?
Imho, the main problem with EotM is that it’s utterly irrelevant to the wvw matchup. So it achieved a side-goal: some place to do sort of wvw stuff in while in queue. But it failed in regards to a major goal: provide some variety the wvw experience.
Swap EB with EotM for a week, with EB becoming the irrelevant multiserver overflow and EotM turned into the point-scoring server-based map, and i’m sure it’d become an enjoyable experience.
Save the Bell Choir activity!
Some of the stuff in this thread is amazing. I don’t think some of the posters even palyed since near launch.
EotM was never asked for. It was a pleasant surprise. People had lots of things to do while waiting for ques. The problem was there wasn’t information on the ques. Was it first come first serve? Is there some weird algorithm to it? What is my position in the que? That is what players asked for.
And we got it! Yea! I now know my position in the que! Now I know about how much time it will be so I can go around and do other stuff.
We never asked for EotM. Sure, there were a few suggestions, a few people who had the idea. They were a very small minority. The vast majority, at the time, wanted things like the ques fixed, better rewards, unique rewards, performance increases, different color commander tags, the fulfilling of the promise to better legendary weapon access, and many more.
But devs made the map. Just the fact that they put so much time and effort into something that was beautiful and intricate kittened a lot of people off because they did very little to change the things that people have been asking for since day 1.
Re: beta, they asked for mostly WvW guilds to participate in the beta. Yes, it was mostly a debug thing. They aren’t going to change the whole kitten thing based on player feedback. They already built it. You can blame the devs for EotM design completely.
Regarding the original topic to this thread. There is no dev presence because WvW has been relatively unchanged since launch. Some of the biggest issues have been addressed, which really isn’t much as it’s really just fixing broken stuff, such as culling, lag, preformance issues, etc. Instead of figuring out how to stop hacking, they removed orbs. There have been a few significant changes, like getting rid of the lake, introducing the trait system, que revamping.
The thing is, since most of the changes are fairly insignificant, they are more insulting than helping. For example, the reward system that was introduced. It was just re-skinning of karma gear. Not only that, but not all the armors stats were available. So, their efforts are returned with scorn. This is what most of the changes reward. Scorn and negativity. As human beings are behind this stuff, why would they subject themselves to all the toxicity.
Another thing is that WvW is immensely complicated. PvP class balancing is nothing compared to WvW as we can wear anything and use buffs. Maps are not just cap and hold. Matches last a week and not 15 minutes. There are 3 teams of potentially 360 players as opposed to 2 teams of 5. There is so much more to WvW and there will never be satisfied people, and the unsatisfied are usually the ones who kitten and make irrational suggestions on the forums.
But there’s some things we, the long time players, just can’t answer, which are the corporate decisions as to why they don’t invest major resources to WvW. I’ve been on BG since Day 1, but I quit about 6 months ago due to the complete lack of actual attention to WvW players, not lip service. Every now and then, I log into the BG TS and the only time it’s full is on reset. It’s a ghost town most other times. They’ve lost a ton of players.
They need to stop putting band aids on the bleeding gorilla in the room, and need to get rid of it completely. Consolidate the servers to 9 new ones, make whole new maps, listen to the majority of rational issues and invite major WvW guilds to a meeting to discuss things before you start making them. Start a PTS.
Any whoo.

We need a wvw forum communicator. This is the minimum. The very minimum…
I play this game ONLY because of the WvW system.
If ANET would ask the community to donate some founds to employ some more dev’s, spending more time and money to CARE about wvw I would be the first to pay. (like a kickstart…)
Hey! Every server deserves a dev! To talk about problems, solutions, watch the guys playing, etc…
But they don’t…
And I don’t know why? WvW players are a big part of the game and this game mode “is the unique feature of the GuildWars2”
Since Allie is gone…. nobody cares of us!

I would love Anet to be more active for the WvW community but I’m no puppy. I just refrain from posting and only read the topics.
Probably posted in here because I do care about WvW, but what can I do about it…
All alone in space and time.
There’s nothing here but whats here is mine.
According to my infractions and bans.
They are most definitely on this sub forum.
And have no sense of humor

FWIW, EOTM seems like a pretty cool map to me, but seems much more about “champ/karma training” than WvW combat, which seems incidental.
The map is pretty awesome though. Widely varied etc., etc. If you’re into actual open-world PVP or something it seems like the place to be. Megaserver kind of hosed it though for any type of organized gameplay since you never know what instance you’ll wind up in.
Anyway, I am hoping that whatever is announced Jan. 24th, it includes serious improvements for WvW.
