I’ve played GW1 & GW2 since beta/launch…played 40+ hours a week up until about a month ago (June 14, 2016)…on that day…WvW just lost its appeal…and I quit playing.

Currently I have no interest to play…but still hold out hope that WvW might change & allow me to return.

The following is based on my personal observation…and your perspective may be different.

World Linking took away the one thing that made a difference to me…being able to play & be admired by a community of fellow veterans that mattered to me.

World Linking changed me into a refugee in my own Home World.

World Linking forcefully dumps the WvW Lower Tiers’ Population into the Upper Tiers to feed their persistent hunger for fresh bodies on a fixed schedule.

World Linking encourages Short Term population building of the Upper Tiers while sacrificing the Long Term population building that barely existed in the Lower Tiers.

ANet is focused on providing only bandaid Short Term solutions that doesn’t directly address the 3 core design failures of WvW.


In case you don’t know the core design failures:

1) Reduce the direct impact of Server stacking to Match-Ups
2) Allow friends & family to play together from many different Worlds
3) Allow Off-peak capping, but let players to work out a solution themselves


ANet should focus on a Long Term solution that encourages Population building through Communties.

Species Population Levels found in nature are built upon an Ecosystem that evolves over the Long Term…based on my limited knowledge of this subject.

Robust Ecosystems encourage strong healthy Population Levels…while a Weak Ecosystem can have an opposite effect.

When WvW is viewed as a Community that reflects these same characteristics…

The WvW Game Mode is put into jeopardy if We ignore the importance of designing an Ecosystem without a Long Term Vision…actually this is pure folly…imo

The WvW Game Mode really needs a better Ecosystem that is Player Driven…yet…ANet Controlled…that is focused on a Long Term Population building process through Communities…imho

It’s… almost like historically every game that’s merged servers has seen more damage caused later on from merging servers, because merging servers only fixes the symptoms of a problem and not the problem itself which led to the need to merge them to begin with.

This is spot on and I’ve been saying the same thing since linkings were announced. The problems still exist.

I agree…it’s not fair to say the Devs are responsible…and they’re crazy for trying.

The current WvW design make it extremely difficult to provide solutions to the problems that we’re all very familiar with.

It’s like trying to bake a Thanksgiving Day Turkey with Tofu as your main ingredient.

Depends, players create problems but devs have to design so as to mitigate against possible expoitative player behaviour. The original developers of the WvW mode are certainly responsible in that they came up with an unsustainable design. The current devs had an idea for a drastic change that would certainly seem to at least be an attempt to fix the actual problem but they wimped out and decided to largely keep the same design leaving the problems intact.
