honestly they should just alter the whole pvd pvw system.

GW2 has a somewhat-fast paced mobile combat system.

and then its meshed with this really slow and immobile siege system. It just doesn’t mesh.

This passive upgrade thing will not do anything to change that.

Right now, the natural state of everything is paper.
Your goal is to upgrade it… by controlling the map, controlling the supply lines, and putting in time and money and defending when necessary. Getting a structure upgraded is an accomplishment and with it a sense of ownership. When the enemy fully fortifies something on your borderland, it shows that effort was put in. If the enemy has everything fortified, it means a long-term domination of all the supply lines as well as the structures.

In the future, the natural state of everything is fortified.
That’s the inevitable state that everything is slowly creeping towards if no one intervenes in a specific amount of time. Anything not taken in X hours will be fortified with full services, guards, and mortars. If you discover something fully fortified on your borderland… a havoc group might have flipped it hours ago and there might not have been a single enemy on the map since. The only thing fortify means in the future is that your side didn’t have enough people on to reflip everything in the last X hours.

How is this change to be perceived?
You can see it as a complete reversal of the natural order resulting in huge shifts in player attitudes. Or you can imagine that every server now has a benevolent invisible hacker fly-hacking from structure to structure ordering all our upgrades for us in a timely and courteous manner, and our structures now have secret mine tunnels underneath providing enough supply for upgrades to happen.

Or in reality, long term outmanned on the enemy side…

If fully fortified structures become too common, all Anet really have to do reduce the cost of normal siege, making it a viable option to plop down more of them instead of superiors. Why shouldnt a fortified door be slammed by 3 rams by the melee party, 3 catapults off in the distant safe zone and 3 more trebuchets behind them? We dont currently have “proper” sieges like that because we just plop down 3 superior rams that does more damage than all this combined, while costing 1/5th as much supplies.

Superior siege has reached as high a god-like must-have status as the commander nowadays, any force not having either cant play. If passive upgrades leads Anet to rethink that… it wouldnt be all that bad.

Upgrades are now an event.
To finish the event, X number of Dolyaks need to reach the Objective.
This Solution promotes:
-The importance of supply camps.
-The importance of dolyaks.
-Players not having to use their funds to upgrade objectives
-Players not having to choose which upgrade to upgrade first.
-Promotes Defending ALL objectives
-Promotes Escorting Yaks
-Promotes WvW
-Allows the enemy army to counter the upgrades if they can’t take the objective.
Lets all agree to this, and push ANET to follow.

EotM is all automatic with pve bosses that can’t be flipped by a small group, and it is clear what kind of gameplay that results in.

Haha they can be flipped by a small group easily. What take a 30 man EoTM group 1 minute and leave half the raid wiped take a 10 man guild group about 10 seconds with them not loosing any HP.

Its just that few such groups really run EoTM. If you where to make EoTM into a normal WvW map (ie a border, just remove champs outside keeps and add ppt) it would play completely different.

Your idea of small group and mine are very different. Small roam is 1-5 at max. What do you think would change if the heavy pve aspects were removed?

Everyone here has most likely spent some time repairing and upgrading keeps and camps. and many have also ran away from such mundane task leaving some poor player to finish it alone…..The automatic upgrades addresses that issue nicely.

Nope, automatic upgrad doesnt solve the gold issue. Free upgrade solve it, dont mess up everything

No one here complained about gold free upgrad, a lot did about automatic upgrad

Tempest seems made careful not to make ele better in any way, since that would be bad

It does the job well :-)

The gold issue still exists because the same selfless and responsible people popping upgrades are often the same ones building and refreshing defensive siege.

Defend events should have a high chance of rewarding you with one of the following:

  • Siege Disabler
  • Supply Trap
  • Stealth Trap
  • Regular/Sup AC Blueprint
  • Reg/Sup Treb Blueprint
  • Reg/Sup Ballista Blueprint
  • Reg/Sup Shield Generator Blueprint
  • Siege Repair Kit
