80 Ranger (3), 80 Warrior (3), 80 Thief (3)
80 Ele (2), 80 Engi (3), 80 Rev (2)
I would support this change….
I think the system in place is fine. There is not a whole heck of a lot to work towards in WvW. I’d rather have something to gain in WvW, then have it basically given to me in a matter of a couple of days.
There are more than 1800 ranks fyi. Good luck doing it even on 2 characters.
I think its better as character based. its things like the dye system that should have stayed account based as they originally said in a blog.
but the WvW rank system should be for characters.
I don’t really care how long it takes just make the the skills you are using the wxp for worth taking the time to get, right now there kitten.
It’s only a grind if you make it a grind. Save for Arrow Cart mastery – most of the WxP skills are not game changing at all. It’s fine as it is – something to check up on passively. Even if they add in DAoC type Realm Abilities (MCL, Determination, TWF anyone?), I would like for it to be hard(er) to attain anyway.
What’s with everyone wanting easy-mode stuff in an already easy game? Gamers these days . . .
@OP if you make it account bound how would different upgrade paths taken on different characters be handled. I imagine it is character bound right now to allow for the different upgrade paths to be taken.
To the people wanting different roles on their other characters. Simple solution; make ranks/wxp gain account wide but leave the point distribution character based. Done.
LOL is this serious? you get more free loot with it being seperate……but youd rather its be tied to account to keep your medicore bonus??? LOL sooo much hurt in this thread
Don’t really care about the loot not that I need the 10+ badges and masterwork items. Are you sure when you say;
medicore bonus???
You don’t mean ‘medicore reward’ ?
The thing you are asking for letting wxp be account bound but letting you pick different traits on different characters is not a simple solution.
Sure its simple to say, but I have a feeling it is far harder to implement than you think.
it is what it is ,, seems fine with me , ever play eve, and would take years to learn everything ,. mmos made to last an earn titles and ranks etc
I like having a few things in this game that isn’t easymode/designed for casuals. Your going to have to put in effort to get your wvw xp.
I had a few idea to try and make world ranks a little more interesting, but there are so many problems with the current system, maps, setup….WvW has potential to be better than the main game.

Yea, I meant it as “simple idea” but obviously coding wise it might have some difficulties but that’s for the coders to work out :]

Effort…effort? there is no challenge to it, it’s just a grind/time sink.
These days they throw with ranks/w exp/money/badges and siege at your head in WvW.
Getting 5-8 ranks a day and the badges, I am going to delete some stacks at this pace…
And 20g on 1 day only WvW ain’t abnormal anymore either.
So what are you talking about? Increase it more and people hit max rank within months.
I think people here are coming from the narrow point of view. Me me me me me. You are not in WvW alone. If you don’t have mastery on one character, it’s fine, someone around you will.
I have plenty of alts of which I enjoy WvW with. Many of us played before this addition and got along fine. Just play. The ranks come with play and one person isn’t going to change the outcome of a battle. The ranks are a bonus to what we have been doing anyway.
Sure the WvW titles take long as you know what, but it’s a game meant to be played over years. That I suspect is the reasoning behind that. For some titles in Guild Wars, it could take years so I see no difference with these. They don’t add a buff so it’s all fluff.
As far as ranks being able to be seen in pve, I can agree with that. You should be able to show off any of your accomplishments. Would be nice if they just added a badge next to your world completion star similar to what many world militaries do.
Long story short, I too think it’s fine having ranks be account bound.
I don’t understand why we need to level each character to 80. shouldn’t it be enough to just level one character to 80, then all your alts can be 80 too?
it’s the same thing with WvW rank. getting it on one character should count as getting it on all your characters.
It is exactly the same thing, so they should be treated the same way.
ose to make WXP and rank points the same way.(snip)

Flawed analogy is flawed. WXP is more aking SPvP ranks for reason I shouldn’t bother explaining. Guess what, SPvP ranks are account bound.
Not to mention that leveling a character can take as less as 1 hour if you decide to craft your way up to level 80, while WXP ranks as mentioned take ages. Your solution of capping it at rank 40 but still allowing people to get ability points is, quite frankly, ridiculous. It’s not like having 200 skill points means anything, unlocking your utilities doesn’t take that much. Having 200 more ability points on the other hand…
And for the “fun” argument, I play for fun and play hundreds of hours of WvW even when ranks weren’t there, but I still believe having it account bound would only make it better.
Finally, people mistaking time sinks/grinds for things that are hard should really quit MMOs and play Megaman or Ghost and Goblins, hopefully understanding what difficulty means.
P.s. why are commander tags still character bound?

Here’s the thing some people are missing. It will take you exactly the same amount of time to get Boiling Oil Mastery on one character as it would take to get it for all of your characters if the ranks were account-bound. So instead of spending 100 hours to get Arrow Cart Mastery on one character, and another 100 hours to get Boiling Oil Mastery on another character, you spend 200 hours on any of your characters and have both. How is that not better in every way?
The other part of this is that your rank title is clearly intended as a means to denote YOUR level of experience and time commitment in wvw, but being tied to a particular character defeats that. If someone is a General on one character and hops on an alt who’s a Scout, are they suddenly fresh off the boat and now know nothing about wvw? It shouldn’t matter what character you’re on, if you have 2000+ hours in wvw, you know what you’re doing.
It’s the same for Commander Icons, too. Your ability to lead has nothing to do with your character and everything to do with the person playing. I understand it was a gold sink at the beginning, but wvwer’s have enough gold sinks now with traps and skins and siege and upgrades that Commander Icons should be changed to account-bound as well.
As Bigglesworth said, having it character-bound defeats the purpose of having WvW rank titles which supposedly reflects your experience and time commitment.
I’m all for long progression; I’d prefer very long progression than everything handed to me on a silver platter. However, having it character-bound just makes no sense.
I vote for Account-Bound, Char-Bound makes me play WvW less cause I want to play another char/class and try something else. But I want to level up my WvW rank too.
