that old chestnut, map completion W.V.W.
Its not that we are afraid to get killed… its that we don’t want to spend time doing things we don’t like to do while playing a game to have fun…
The entitlement.
I don’t like playing PvE.

I extremely dislike instanced content. Thus, I really hate doing dungeons. Yet, how many runs do I have to make to get the required tokens? There’s some crud in this game you just have to do.
What if 1 gift for wvw and 1 for pve completion?
Just the WvW

Thats where you are wrong, Map completion forces players of both types PVE and PVP to go into the places they hate if they want a legendary. (emphasis added)
Let me stop you right there-
Firstly, this is entirely untrue since legendaries can be bought off TP.
But if we skip that point, let’s consider what a legendary should be, since this is the condition under which you suggest that a PvE player is “forced” to go into WvW. A legendary is a unique, high-end weapon that demonstrates your mastery of the game in all its aspects (sPvP excluded). WvW participation is meant to be a precondition for acquisition!
Along with completing map exploration in WvW, you’re also required to have a Gift of Battle! PvE players forget this and don’t complain about it now because this requisite has been utterly trivialized since they started giving badges away like candy in Achievement Point chests and Edge of the Mists. But there was once a time when anyone who wanted a legendary would have to actually play WvW and kill other players (IIRC there was a time when NPCs didn’t drop badges), or at least risk an encounter in the jumping puzzle.
Getting 500 badges back then was much harder than getting 1k, maybe 2k or more badges today.

Getting a legendary weapon should be an achievement. It should be something you have to work for and explore the entire game for.
Look, I hate grinding as much as the next guy and truly I’m happy to hear that the upcoming expansion pack will give us alternative ways for getting precursors, but I don’t want the Gift of Exploration to be changed. It should always include the WvW maps just like it should always include the Gift of Battle (getting 500 Badges of Honor in WvW). If you don’t like it then too bad for you. You can play the game perfectly fine without a legendary weapon, so if you hate WvW that much you can always just craft an ascended weapon, which has the same stats as a legendary weapon and also looks pretty.
I hate map completion, I absolutely hate it, yet I got 100% map completion twice without complaining about it on the forums. So yeah, go figure.

You’re not very legendary if you had to carebear your way through one of the game modes.
You can have your pve only map completion item when I have my wvw only map completion item.
Also, wow the irony of the pvers saying it would be too easy for us to have that item for completing only the wvw maps. The entitlement is real.

PVE is way harder with all the POIs and heart quests with all those mobs chasing after you, rather than players in WvW really.
Going through all those PVE maps is more tedious in the end, from the perspective of a WvWer.

One small part of getting a legendary requires something outside of PvE and people complain… try making one if you mostly do WvW or PvP. It’s significantly more effort. If anything they should put more things into WvW and PvP that are required to craft them and less in PvE to balance it out better.

But yet you dont hear people complaining that they should remove all the PvE maps from map completion though :P
If PvE is much harder, WvW should be a doddle. So why do many complaining about removing it?!
PvE is more tedious, yes, harder, no (unless you wait for the color rotation). Even if you do that, it’s still hard harder and more tedious getting every other part of a legendary in PvP or WvW compared to PvE.
Seriously PvE spits out t6/lodestone/dung tokens/gold/etc. at a far higher rate. WvW is the least profitable area in the game. People need to check their PvE privilege.

I still think they should do this. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/A-window-of-neutrality-in-WvW-for-mapping/first#post4190718
In addition, instead of the world completion star icon, you should get a chicken icon.

I gave it a second thought and came to the conclusion that I’m okay with “neutral” players who can enter all towers and keeps, BUT,
“neutral” players should still be killable. I can kill neutral mobs, so I should also be able to kill “neutral” players.
Under the condition that I can kill them, I’m fine with “neutral” players who can enter all towers and keeps.
Also “neutral” players should not be able to attack lords of course and they can’t cap anything.

As long as the same applies to PvE – you can enter “neutral” mode and ghost through the maps collecting all of the POIs, vistas and waypoints… and heart completion just by talking to them.
And if that sounds ridiculous, you’ll know why it sounds so ridiculous to give people a pass out of building a little siege and getting the WvW points they need.
You know what this really comes down to? PvErs do the PvE stuff first, and it’s easy. You can solo all of PvE’s map completion (I have multiple completions, so yes I know), and they leave WvW until last. But the WvW maps can’t just be done whenever you feel like it, so it seems like this huge obstacle to them. If they really want completion, they should be there on Friday night reset (when the maps are the most fluid) or else find their server’s strongest WvW times (or the opponent’s weakest times) and join in. Not only will they get what they need, they’ll actually help out their server by doing so.
They’ve benefited from those bonuses that WvW has generated for PvE for all of this time, so it’s high time they rolled up their sleeves and gave something back.

So they can still:
Kill players
Kill siege
Kill NPCs including workers
Build and use siege including golems
Scout players
Scout siege
Scout walls and gates
Drop portals
??
The one suggestion I heard was to let the turn into blind 1-hit critters that can’t carry bundles or supply. Now, I’m not saying you can’t also patch out all of these things in some way, but why go through all that work to cater to your greediest, laziest, whiniest, most cowardly players? What does that say to everyone else, including other PvE players who have gotten one or more Legendary weapons?
As I mentioned, Gift of Battle wasn’t always a trivial accomplishment, WvW is intended to be a part of Legendary completion.

No obviously they can’t do any of that either Bertrand
What I suggested was more of a tongue-in-cheek suggestion anyway. The reason why I suggested it is because I want start a hunting party to hunt all these privileged, lazy and cowardly PvE-ers and kill them for my own amusement. :P

I still say the best solution would be to split Map Completion into “Map Completion: Tyria” and “Map Completion: the Mists”. Doing either one gets you a Gift of Exploration, so if you do both, you’d still end up with two per character.
Tyria map completion is simple and straightforward, but very time consuming. Mists map completion is a lot shorter, but you’re more reliant on colour RNG and whether or not your server has enough people to capture the points you need. It seems like a fair trade off to me.

I could live with this, but at the same time it does make getting a legendary weapon a whole lot less… legendary…
I mean, getting a legendary weapon now means you’ve put effort into ALL parts of the game (or it means you have a credit card, but lets not go into that…). If you legit crafted your own legendary it means you’ve explored all parts of GW2 and you’ve actually earned the weapon.
I feel people who want to avoid a part of the game or cheat their way through it don’t really deserve a legendary weapon, but that’s just my opinion.
Eh, in my opinion, you shouldn’t care how or when another player got their Legendary; all that matters is how YOU got yours, because it is the journey and memories that make it meaningful to you. If somebody bought their Eternity and then trashes it a year later because it meant nothing to him, isn’t it his own fault for wasting all that money?
Trust me, nobody else in the game (except maybe your close friends) cares about how you got your Legendary. Most of the time, they’re not even looking at you. They’re too busy wondering if other people are paying attention to THEM. Getting stuff just to impress other people is always a losing strategy in the long run. Get something because YOU like it, not because you think other people will like it.
I’m tempted to say that just remove the entire gift of exploration, but leave it as requirement for legendary. That way I won’t have to see any more of those ugly skins :p
I’m so getting bomb hated now...

all 9 characters of mine have 100% wvw completion O.O and my main has 100% world completion done 6 months ago.
I was once so proud when I got my Gift of Battle. Truly when I wield my legendary one day, people will know I’ve killed hundreds or thousands of enemy players.
Yeah… well that didn’t work out so well in the end.
