who else wants pve mobs out of wvw?
me, for god sake, is so punishing for mesmer and ele, all trash goes behind me when i try to 1vs1 or 1vs2. is so irritating. PvP mean player Vs player. wvw is a pvp map.
wvw is a pvx map not a pvp map.

I want less animals and many, many more patrolling guards. It should feel like areas are controlled by a faction, not just be random cap locations in the middle of nowhere where are couple of guards are lazily sleeping on their post.
WvW is not PvP only! It’s PvP/PvE together.
They are there so that thieves can aggro them all and then stealth to train them on you giving them the advantage in a fight… and then if they ever need to escape the random animals provide a free CnD so that they can stealth away.

yeah but, its the Mist why do we have common mobs there? since mist worklike FoW or UW, it would be more eye candy if it have is own biome and mobs.

It’s so Anet doesn’t need to make open world PvP servers.
its not really an issue anymore. it used to be you could rally off of mobs that grant no exp like hit a bunny and rally. since thats been removed its not really and issue.
warrior and we’re the best class” Eugene
I want them out too!
As a ranger there’s nothing more annoying to have our pet engaged thus making you enter in combat mode. If you’ll say the usual “just put it in passive mode” I will just answer you “when we’ll have a shortkey to do that”.
I want them in. They make up a living environment.
Without them the world is dead.
However I want any neutral out of auto-target, they can only become attack-focus if explicitly LEFT-clicked. And I want them to be hit by AoE only if less than 5 other possible targets are in the AoE area.

The only problem I have are Skale and those stupid Griffons by the Bay/Guard/Camp area. Seriously. They always hit me and I go in combakittens
bad enough that Mesmers are slow, yet necessary to go in front for veils, but these Gryphons.. I swear they are enemy saboteurs to make me fall extremely behind!!
Edit:
Umm is comb@t really a swear word
I’m usually typing on my phone
WvW is meant to reflect open world consensual PVP on a regular map with an added factor of objectives etc. It does exactly that so guys that do not like this are being a bit silly. Its not meant to be fair or competetive its purely for fun.. The winner gets nothing more than the loser so I really dont understand why guys have an issue with this. Maybe frustrated minigame style PVP players that dont have the skills?

do thieves count as pve mobs?
Not sure why anybody defends the current placement.
If the idea is to place monsters to create ‘rough terrain’ the designers did not do a very good job…they should not be anywhere near the main roads and paths through the zone…. it seems like they are absolutely everywhere.

They are critter.

Depends on what word came after it as the filter is over sensitive.

This.
I love dragging mesmers into large groups of red mobs. It takes away his NPC advantage because now I have my own army of minions! hahahahaha
Seriously, I mean this. You should try it.
The worst part about NPCs in WvW is the ability to rally off killing an NPC.

Yeah, it stinks. I got you now, wait, wtf, I stunned a moose with my hilt bash, then the thief killed me.
To be honest, I want less trash mobs like moas and more hyper-mega-Godzilla monsters that you could lure into enemy camps or towers. I mean, I’d be happy to defend a tower against a giant monster!
Currently there is only the arboreal spirit in EB that someone from our server once managed to lure to Speldan Mill supply camp where it killed all the NPCs and so our zerg had to come there and kill it. It was fun though.
I don’t want them removed. They add a lot to the world. Without them everything would feel barren and empty. They also add more strategy, such as leading a group chasing you into hostile mobs.
I love the pve mobs , and hopefully some day tie in some living stories with W3,. maybe a rampaging horde randomly selecting areas like bandits etc ,. maybe take down an epic boss and he drops a secretive weapon,. sticky bombs for walls an gates ,. that do massive damage , idk anything like that train of thought lol

This, but have the guards patrol the roads, especially bridges, not the raw land areas

I support removal of unneccesary mobs. Can keep things like the Skritt and Centuars, and SOME Krait. Also the enemies for gaining Dredge/Hylek/Ogre support. But most of them just make more hassel than anything without adding any real good. I dont mind ambient animals though…(mostly so I can recharge my death shroud >.>)

Have some of them picnic on those land of areas?
But yeah, this is actually a good idea. I wouldn’t want to get rid of pve mobs but this is a nice alternative.

I’d actually like to see more mobs. Tough mobs. Oh, your big zerg is stomping some smaller group at their watergate? SUDDENLY KARKA EVERYWHERE.
Or dare I say put in actual bots, with real characters and builds.
(edited by Sil.4560)
I want more mobs, which can be used strategically.
Give us the ability to befriend a Veteran Karka and have them defend a camp instead of a guild lord.
I am a dedicated wvw player, and i have to say:
nothing in wvw enrages me more than these silly mobs!
Those useless slow-downs because of their attacks, as if the maps (especially the borderlands) were not large and the travelling long enough!
And the totally random influence on the outcome of battles: i remember a 30vs30 fight at speldan that we lost just because the spirit spawned and decided to attack us. Or an underwater fight south of anza where i had nearly defeated 3 enemies, but when me and the last enemy were both in down-state a river dragon decided to attack and kill me → rage quit
Or the constant attacks by the darn wolves when you besiege durios and everybody coming as reinforcement or carrying supply from umber pulls in the next pack.
And so further and so on.
Give me more 100 guy zergs, more lags, more arrow-carts, more bugs and what not, i dont mind, but kitten get rid of this mob crap which is totally unasked for in a pvp area.

I love PvP. But people who think WvW is PVP obviously have reading difficulties.
The whole point of WvW is making PvP accessible fun and rewarding for PVE chars, and thus combining the two worlds.
Which is why I advocate an alliance battle type mechanic with 12 v 12 that rewards skill more than it rewards a nice internet connection and zergs
This would reduce the chances of zergs when implemented properly. Let’s face it half the people only do WvW cuz its easy experience
WvW is not PvP only! It’s PvP/PvE together.

I for one like having the mobs in there, makes the world feel alive, but do agree that we should have map specific/mist specific type mobs in there.

It is, by nature, a game mode in which players fight against other players. How you choose to engage your enemy and your personal objectives are entirely up to you.
Remove the grub, oakheart and chamipon mobs. Rest are fine.
I actually want more mobs, but not the trash ones like deer and moas etc. like people have mentioned, but rather tactical and strategic upgrades. I would like tougher, more guards, guards that are actually effective at guarding Yaks once a camp is properly upgraded for them. More NPCs like Siegerazer, perhaps ones to help out with other assaults besides just break-out.
I would love to see mercenary hirelings that can be hired via badges / karma / gold to help on offense or defense.
I would also likewise like the guard defense and guard damage wvw traits to be more meaningfull in this situation, so that people who have it will have easy time, those that dont, won’t.
WvW seems to be a mix of tactics and strategy, the NPCs that are there play too little role in it.
How much fps and less lag would we gain from all pve tat gone?
Absolutely none.
All that needs done, is removed the Rally on PVE mobs in WvW, I’d be happy with that for a start.
I like it as it is, feels more like a real enviorment…
The only one I would remove/change is the group grub event no ones interested in it because it takes far too long to do and is OP…

Love that Idea.
I would decrease over all mob population in WvW. And we could add some server flair to the environment. For my server FoW I would draw inspiration from:

I would love, if the devs would just retexture the area to look more like the actual areas Imagine how beautifull Vabbi might look. All those nice looking buildings and the townsfolk in Vabbi clothes.
Also the grub and such should disapear. I mean, you can even “farm” WXP from them. Why the hell do they give WXP?! That makes no sense at all.
Chronomancy works, I am proof of it. Now stop asking me questions. Time must be preserved!
I’m dead against PvE events, “dragons”, quests, and even skill points in WvW, but I think the PvE mobs serve a totally useful purpose. They represent a jeopardy of sorts to hinder free movement around the map, they can be used in a small scale fight in much the same manner as structures/terrain can be used for LOS purposes, and they can be used to accumulate bloodlust if you want to devote the time to it. All of that adds a bit of depth to the game that still more or less directly relates to how you compete against other players.

Heh. I’ve actually got good fights out of the grub on occasion, when we’re killing it and enemies show up thinking that would be the perfect time to take us by surprise.

I handle that differently. When I see the server, that usually outmannes us heavily attacking the grub. I kamikazi attack the grub too. I mostly die, but I get the event reward^^. And once they even let me help defeat the grub. I just run off moments before the event was completed. But it was a nice picture. 20 enemy invaders and me attacking the grub, what a lovely, peacefull family we are

I wouldn’t care about mobs if ANet finally fixed bouncing attacks and clones so they don’t constantly target critters and yellow mobs. It’s annoying as hell.
Why don’t you mind it? It’s crazy that there are a bunch of random mobs effectively on the roads….
I don’t really like to pull out the ‘realistic’ card because it’s mostly irrelevant…but it is completely unrealistic and makes no sense…. the roads should be cleared and if they want to use mobs as rough terrain…then you can’t put them everywhere!
WvW is PvE with PvP in it. It’s supposed to emulate the open world with player enemies.
Some of you act as if anyone is not trying to PvP. Should not be playing in WvW.
Some players would like to do their daily’s and monthly’s without having to leave the WvW areas.
I like the idea of more patrolling guards. Camps, towers, and keeps should create alot more patrols and they should reach further, possibly even fighting in NPC vs NPC battles in specific areas (maybe make it a random event). I think sentries should also be given cheap upgrades that include guard level and 2 patrols (1 for each direction of the road they are on).
It also adds value to actually upgrading your guards if they sent out 3-5 patrols instead of like 1. Wouldn’t exactly be too crazy to counter either since the patrol sources snowball into each other. by making the patrols de-spawn as you capture them. IE sentries make camps easier to take, camps make towers easier to take, etc.
Small groups could still outmaneuver the guards pretty easily, but larger groups would be more likely to randomly aggro them. Small groups could also use the sentry upgrades to send patrols out that would hit nearby camps/towers if they needed the help.
Ehmry Bay – Legion of the Iron Hawk [Hawk]
I hate the fact they always target the player with the highest tougness — usually being me.
Seriously nothing more annoying than seeing an enemy attacking a supply camp (of the 3rd server), attacking that player and having all the npcs turn around and start attacking you… Or doing a 1v1 near some mobs which all focus you, and having the enemy player realize that and deliberatly sttacking some more mobs.
If anything mobs and nps should focus GC players :-)
I want less animals and many, many more patrolling guards. It should feel like areas are controlled by a faction, not just be random cap locations in the middle of nowhere where are couple of guards are lazily sleeping on their post.
Best suggestion ever, especially in areas where there are multiple caps ( tower + camp + keep) I think this would be a great way to mix things up so it’s not a full-on zerg fest as you’d need players cleaning up NPCs more.
WvW is not PvP only! It’s PvP/PvE together.
Terrible that youre ok with that. Good god go back to dungeons.
Don’t mind the majority of the mobs themselves…krait density however can be ridiculous at times.
