The hilarity comes from realizing that the very first incarnation of the rune wasn’t a hugely embarrassing error on the rune designer’s part.
Checks and balances, my friends.
Think about it.

More like: that’s one programmer who didn’t get a bonus this month. “Holy festering KITTEN, George … you didn’t tell us the new runes did THAT!

Looks at it this way.

Major Rune of Perplexity
(1) +28 Condition Damage
(2) 15% Confusion Duration
(3) +55 Condition Damage
(4) 20% chance to cause Confusion on hit (15 second cooldown).

Superior Rune of Perplexity
(1) +28 Condition Damage
(2) 15% Confusion Duration
(3) +55 Condition Damage
(4) 20% chance to receive Confusion when hit (15 second cooldown).
(5) +100 Condition Damage
(6) +15% confusion duration. Causes 10 seconds of Confusion on interrupt.

That’s some pretty cerebral rune design. And I actually find it easier to assume a pretty cool idea was simply misunderstood/miscommunicated and ‘fixed’ rather than a line of programmers and testers screwing up.

My issue is that if they go and nerf the rune it means people who went and got the runes are going to be left with lacklustre runes that they spent a fair amount of money on.

Would be nice for Anet to stop making us play test their content with our ingame gold.

In reference to ascended items:
Nar: I love that it will take me time and money to
reach the same level I’m at right now… …said no one, ever.

Yeah, it’ll probably get nerfed to the point where it’s useless unless utilized by a min/max confusion build. And even then the nerfed results would probably pale in comparison to alternative rune sets.

Playing during reset tonight, I was never in the situation where I was getting loads of confusion…or even a little. These runes are useable by only very specific builds in which they start to focus that (warrior interupts, mesmer confusion, engi interupts), and there are always hard counters. Confusion is a condition, it can be removed like any other condition. The best part about it is that unlike any other condition, if you move away and not attack while removing it, it does NO damage! If you have bleeds, then even if you stop attacking and try to remove it, you’ll still take damage!

All these threads just remind me of the old glamour threads…
The runes need some tweaking, sure…but are they massively OP? Definitely not. It basically just needs a CD on the confusion on interupt (say ~10-15 seconds).

This set is used as the major source of damage by most people who use it, what other rune set is used like that?

Anything in this game short of dodging and walking is an interruptible action. There is absolutely no skill involved with this runeset. Just spam your interrupts and watch your enemy one shot themselves with 20-25 stacks of confusion before they even realise they have them.
