I have a feeling that people that have played GW1 and know about abaddon are a minority. I wouldn’t be surprised if the rest of the populace votes Kiel, simply because of how Evon has been portrayed in game so far.

So YOU have direct numbers on what the percentage of the current playerbase played GW1? I’ve never seen them, but unless they played Nighfall, they have no idea who Abadon is (beyond a possible reference here and there)..
Even if they haven’t played GW1, there’s a mission where you head into Abaddon’s Temple in GW2 that everyone has to do to finish the game; it’s the level 72 story quest.
While I have much love and respect for Kiel, there’s no way she’s going to win. I had planned on giving all my votes to her… up until Evon promised discounted Black Lion Keys.

And I’m iffy on blowing the mystery surounding the Six Gods and Abaddon’s fall SO soon after release. Here’s my idea: let’s piece it together from knowledge gained in the godly realms first, then get the Fractal at a later time.

I’m more surprised that this is even a factor for people. These discounts only last one month, I’d rather vote based on the long-term repercussions like the fractal and the way the story will develop, thus bringing in new content depending on who got the position.
I’m voting for the discount on waypoints >.< I only spend money in two things, waypoints and repairs, so saving even a few copper in waypoints is good enough for me.
For fractals, since we do not know how they will look, I’m interested in both Abaddon and Thaumanova, so that’s not a deciding factor for me.
And for the BL Keys, I have way too many boosts already, so I don’t need them.

Kudos to the devs although I’m hoping Kiel comes back with something better to compete with Evons fractal promises. Rescuing a descendent of Nicholas the Traveller from the pirates would definitely make me vote Kiel, especially if it leads to the travellers return. He’s such a legend and just think what items he might have been stashing away for the past 200+ years. Wishful thinking so for now I’m a floating voter.
I play TF2. The fact I can get a key from a random enemy, or from map completion, and the guarenteed key from story…is enough to make me ok with them. Plus the rewards are pretty cool.I already got a hair kit, which I want to use, but afraid to squander. Also some minis, and other stuff…without HAVING to buy something. Thats nice.
WP cost are already cheap. Going from LA to Frostgorge to kill a dragon is roughly 4 Silver at lv 80. That cost is recovered almost instantly with a single Ori node or Ancient tree farm. The Dragon Chest offers a guaranteed Rare or sometimes an Exotic. So as you can see, the costs of WP travel is minor. Even if WP cost are free for 4 weeks, that’s nothing compared to cheaper keys.
People will vote with their wallets, and Evon’s offers justify that. Kiel needs to understand that a majority of GW2 players are all about the coin.

How do you figure Evon would support anyone except the BLTC? He wouldnt build airships for the pact, or pay for your gate travel. More like he would put a random chance to get a airship token inside a rare box that you might get out of a BLT chest, and players only need to collect some number close to infinite of these tokens and he’ll build one airship for himself. The Fractal will either be liked or hated by the players. I doubt the lore will resolve any significant questions. We never found out anything about the existing Fractals. How would a new Fractal be any different?
If this is like every other Fractal, we would either fight the Horde of Darkness or Inquest mixed in with whatever else the reactor summoned and learn nothing.
The exchange rate will change so the gold cost of keys does not. This is a choice between reduced waypoint costs, or reduced real money costs of keys/more in game gold from gem purchases.
Evon offers to take more of your money. He doesnt offer help (nor has he) in any way. He never gave anyone weapons or armor (though he takes a cut when one player sells to another) All my gear was crafted by me, he hasnt helped at all.
I highly doubt that all of your crafting materials were 100% from gathering. I also highly doubt that you’ve never did any business on the TP. Let’s face it, Evon is a part of our lives. Without him, heroes wouldn’t be able to trade their goods to upgrade their stats, or to get rid of excess inventory.
And without him, a majority of players wouldn’t have access to a Precursor. Be sure to thank him for your Legendaries.

Evon’s only important because ANet made him important. Back in GW1 we were perfectly fine without slime like Evon, and a great deal of people still had Obsi or other Elite Armor, Chaos Axes, Runic Blades, Pyroclastic Axes, Bone Dragon Staves, Kaolai Staves, etc. Those were good days.

I could care less about BLC keys price being reduced as I don’t buy them, but I am voting for Evon because of the Fall of Abaddon fractal.
I agree he is a shady business owner, but also an effective one. He’s managed to have a monopoly on providing retail and trade services. But let’s all be open here. A lot of people want to vote for Kiel because she’s a human. I’m partial to humans as well. But I’m able to overcome my own bias simply because Evon is offering us some tangible assets, mainly discounted keys. Him sponsoring the Abaddon dungeon helps too.
Maybe once Evon is on the Captain’s Council, he can suggest some Affirmative Action rule changes to help sylvari and charr to get some equality.
