No offense, but offering a limited showing for 3 days of an event that lasts almost an entire month is absolute trash.

Many of us play video games to get away from reality and for a break from things that tie up our time, and when I found out today that I was “too late” to watch the in game fireworks display I was seriously kitten ed.

I’ve spent around 200$ “supporting” Anet with the purchase of items and gems, but limiting an event to a few days is certainly not what I was hoping for.

Furthermore I saw no kind of message stating that this event would be offered for a limited time.

Anyone ells seriously upset they missed out?

The timing was announced when the event started, all last week there was a message in-game that said “don’t miss the fireworks this weekend!”

Today and over the next two days there are story-based events going on. Whether you personally like it or not, this is the direction Anet is going with the game. There will be plenty more events going on if you miss these. The fireworks were not that special and I don’t think you’re life will feel hollow and pointless because you didn’t get the dragon hat.

3 – 4 days is a pretty short amount of time, but I think what makes it unacceptable is the way it occurred every 2 hours, and was only 5 minutes long. If you had a connection issue, or a crash, or anything in that 5 minute stretch…guess you have to wait another 2 hours. Even if you just wanted to, you know, play the game while you were waiting, you risked getting kicked into an overflow when you tried to return which was on an entirely different clock. By the time you got back into LA, the event was over and you’d have to wait another two hours. They really should have made it an instanced even that you could do on your own time, and probably have extended the time to at least a week considering it was Fathers day weekend. It was not well implemented at all.

I just don’t agree with offering limited rewards that require you to be on at a specific time during a 3 day period, which happened to be a weekend where post people choose to spend time with family.

I was busy all last week, and was really looking forward to the event. I figured since we had seen no other events with these types of “requirements” that I would be safe not logging on, as I would have plenty of time to catch up over the next couple weeks.

Guess I got defecated on with my presumptions.

They did this on the major holidays in GW 1, except that it was one day, not 3.

For example, the Dragon festival
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Dragon_Festival
Emperor Kisu will appear in Shing Jea Monastery every two hours (beginning at 2:00 AM / 9:00 (UTC)) and give everyone a Festival Prize. Then Celestial Charges will start to spawn around Shing Jea Monastery. Players are required to deliver the Celestial Charges to the Imperial Sorcerers before being caught by a Grasp of Insanity:

If you missed that one day, you missed the finale. At least they gave us 3 days here. And they did say several times that it was over those 3 days.

Sucks that you missed out but it wasn’t that great tbh. The timing was weird people had to wait till in game dawn for it to happen so the one time I waited for it, it was almost an hour later than the supposed time. Oh and I got the rewards from randomly walking on a bridge before those 3 days. Bad luck if you really wanted the horns (nothing special imo), but the fireworks are recorded on youtube.

Relax Op, put things into perspective, because it sounds that you are torn between playing this and RL stuff that gets in the way, so what if you missed it?
It was only a hat, nothing more, you can still get the shatterer wings if you so desire it, I also have stuff to do and miss some of the activities in GW2, and I´m still here, sure we want it all, but sometimes that is not an option!

I understand you position, but its maybe a bit too extreme, no one kittened you over anything man!
They did say in the main page that it was going to be for a short time, I wanted the octopus backpack thing a LOT, but could play as much in south sun as I wanted, but hey, no big deal.

Timed stuff is the nature of this game, its a love hate relationship I´m afraid..
good luck on the next activity hopefully you get everything there, I would give u my hats if I could, honestly.

I am the wonder, I am the storm.

I’m not torn between real life and this game, but I have a right to complain about missing out on something I had been looking forward to.

Especially since I really wanted that hat.

While it was well advertised ahead of time that the fireworks were of limited duration, I did think that there would be a number of people who would miss it for one reason or another. I do like the limited duration events, but it does suck when you miss them due to RL issues.

Sorry you missed it OP. It’s a lousy feeling when that happens.

That said, if you follow the game, and you play it, you should be aware by now that limited time events are part of the game. As already stated, it was far worse in Guild Wars 1 where you usually only had a single day to get the hat.

There’s no good way to miss something like this and not be angry. But it was promoted and advertised and if you liked the game you should probably follow it a bit more closely…even if just to know that you had to log in at some point to get the hat.

Of course you might not have been able to anyway, but occasionally when I’ve been away I’ve asked my wife to log me in in the past to get a reward.

Again, I’m really sorry this happened to you. I can understand why you’d be angry.

Name ONE time that happened. You used to be covered in bloody hats if you spent too long in Lion’s Arch during early halloween events.

Hey OP, since this event probably repeats every year, you might be able to get the hats next year…that’s what happened in the dragon festival in Cantha in Guild Wars 1.

The point is, this wasn’t 12 occurences it was much more. Someone missed it. I feel bad that they missed it. But it was announced and many people who follow the game did now about it in advance.

Compared to the 36 occurances of the fireworks over the weekend? Not including guesting or waiting in overflow if you just missed the latest fireworks show on your home server…

I very satisfied with the 3 day window. I also know if i miss it, that’s what happens. There might be a good chance you can still get the headpiece skin at the end of the event too, we simply don’t know. Speaking of GW of old, it really be nice to have a wardrobe or a “skin NPC” that kept this stuff for you. Just saying.

Give GW2 your phone number, and next time they’ll call you to come online. They gave plenty of warning. Your fault, not theirs. I have a feeling that that is mostly why you are upset (if I may play junior psychiatrist).

The hats are no biggie. You’ll live fine without one. Like all gear, it’s a matter of taste. Some love it, some hate it, some don’t care one way or the other. And it MIGHT be back next year.

If you are working on getting your wings, by now you probably realize you don’t need to get the Fireworks achievement. (They reduced the Dragon Bash Experience total from ten to eight).

If you just wanted to see the show, then I am on your side. I was there for several showings and could barely ever get my camera to be able to see them past my toon. And they came as the sun was coming up, not when it was nice and dark. (At least on my server.) It was difficult to actually tell they were really going off.

Comeon guys, how can you complain about this. There was 3 days to do this event, plenty of notice and all you had to do was afk a bit in the center of LA to get the achievement. What is most important is, what did you lose by not participating? Literally nothing. You can still get 8 achievements if you want the shatter wings even without that achievement. All you lost was achievement points and lets face it. If you really wanted those achievement points, you would have made sure you stuck around to get those achievement points instead of BLAMING Anet for not having their event LONG enough so that you could finally move your butt and get something so simple done. Time doesn’t wait for anyone.

There is a line between blaming anet for a poorly organize event (which this wasn’t) and you being unorganized.

Some of us DID go away from keyboard in LA and STILL did not get the achievement. There are bigger problems than “OMG THEY TOLD YOU, SO GTFO!” Then we have another 30% that actually have lives and cannot get on the game for a 5 minute window every 2 hours. Even someone who is the biggest fanboy knows that window is a little screwed up.

You remind me of the person who’s racing to the riverfront on July 4th trying to get his family to the fireworks on time because he knows they start promptly at dusk and then complaining because he didn’t make it.

Plan ahead a little more. See when the fireworks are going to be lit.
Ask people. Read. It’s what you’d do in real life on 4th of July weekend in the USA, isn’t it? And you’d sit around waiting for them to start, slapping mosquitos and lighting sparklers and whatnot, wouldn’t you? Why not kick back and sit in Lion’s Arch and enjoy the conversation/people. Popping in 5 minutes before they start is not what you’d do in real life on the 4th, is it?

Not any different with the Guild Wars Dragon Bash fireworks. Just plan a little more next year.

Grab a lawn chair and sit and chat. To quote another game’s famous dead NPC, “Stay awhile and listen”. Show up early, engage in conversation/merriment, and enjoy the show.

I got the OmgDragonHat, but I’m going to miss out on the Aetherblades content. I’ve supported them with gem purchases, too.

But I’m not mad.

It’s just life and the nature of an MMO and I actually like it this way. If I wanted to play a game where you could just go back and do any content whenever and get all the exact same rewards as everyone else I would play a single-player RPG. I like the living world and if I miss it I’m not going to cry about it because that’s life and what makes it dynamic. I didn’t pay for gems with a rider that I would get “one of everything from now until forever” – I paid for them and I got the stuff I used them for, end of story – it doesn’t entitle me to anything more.

If I didn’t like this game or the idea of a dynamic and changing MMO in general I would stop giving them money and play another kind of game. I didn’t think WoW was worth $15/mo so I canceled it and no longer play – I never went to the forums and complained about what a “bad game” it was because it is what it is and it’s not going to radically change to please me. I don’t like most FPS games and that’s okay – not everyone has to like the same kind of game, I feel like so many people are playing games that make them so angry and upset when they could just play something else or use their money for something else.

There are things I think Dragon Bash could have done better, yes. But when I have expressed that, I’ve expressed what I think and what I think could have been different – not have a temper tantrum because it wasn’t exactly what I would have done.
