So in one of the screenshots, there’s a character holding two of the sword-styled fellblade skins. The skins appear to have some cool pink/purple effects added.

Will we also get a Greatsword with the same new look?

Watchwork Mechanisms

Watchwork tech is the latest and greatest innovation in Tyria. Watchwork parts can be used in new crafting recipes or as currency in the Crown Pavilion to buy items like new rune and sigil recipes, Watchknight Tonics, or the new Sovereign Weapon Set. You might even find the recipe to assemble a Watchwork Portal Device, allowing you to create a personal portal!

My only hopes are this portal device is not temporary content.

They’re likely the Sovereign weapons.

Fellblades still are a unique reward. They said nothing about releasing a reskin at some point in the future.

Looks are subjective

I should also point out this is not the first case like this, Fiery Dragon Sword vs Jormag’s Breath being the one I recall.

Indeed, looks are definitely subjective. Personally, I prefer the classic fellblade look to the reskin shown in the screenshots. Wielding an obsidian blade is fairly cool, imo. Wielding a pink blade, is not.

Next all we would need is a way to dye the runes….please.

Fellblades were a 1h sword in Guild Wars, yet they got implemented as a greatsword in gw2. Not that big a difference, it seems.

Okay, so there seems to be some blades coming from gw1 that only some have, and they got it from the hall of monuments?
Why should that stop a-net from adding more weaponskins (and armour) to the game, just because some want to feel selected?

There’s no reason why a rapier can’t still be added to the gem store as a direct purchase. Not saying it will but it’s clearly a highly desired weapon skin and it would make sense to make it available to players.

That’s supposed to be a unique HOM reward. Now not only is it no longer unique, but all we have is the plain dark Grey 2h version that’s roughly the same size as these ONE HANDED SWORDS.

I’m hoping that if/when they add a rapier skin, it has completely different attacks than existing one-handed swords. Said another way, I’m hoping it’s not just a skin. Being a fencing coach and weapons historian, I’m acutely aware of the difference between a rapier, falchion, basket-hilted claymore, and a classic medieval sword. And I don’t really care for greatswords that look like oversized butter knives.

Who cares? To some, the HoM one looks better, to others these look better. At the end of the day, it’s still a unique reward.

initially yes, but the champion loot drops are a perma thing not a ls limited thing so the prices will go down though it’ll probably still be quite expensive. I’m just glad they heard my pleas(and those of all the others) for a rapier.

This does raise the question now of what the sovereign weps will look like since the 1h runic fellblade isn’t a sovereign skin.

I’m overjoyed that I will be able to get my rapier. (I wvw a ton) but also really upset I opened 25 BLCs. Very upset. I have 9 scraps.

I would imagine they’d look similar to the halberd the mini is holding, at least as far as the general style goes. Though that’s just a guess.

Wrong. That is the Seraph/Golden spear skin, sets that already exist in the game and have since launch.

Are the new drops specific to the champions similair to Final Rest and the Shadow Behemoth? So say only troll champions drop a certain weapon, only Flame Legion champions can drop another? Or are all champions basically sharing the same skins in an RNG lucky dip?

Well the Felblade is still a Greatsword, while these new Felblades are just swords. Plus I can’t say I’ve seen anyone use Felblade after the first month of the game.

So, any new weapons for Engineers that use a kit as their primary? I’ve had the same flamethrower skin for nearly a year now…

I’m ok with the new swords having the same model but different skin just as long as they don’t give the new swords the GW1 shadows moving over the blade. Then I would be mad. Cause that smoke around the Fellblade looks so much less cool. <give me back my shadows>

question:

what about PvP? that’s where my thief uses his sword the most, and where i’m the most interested in getting the skin. do we have to obtain them through PvE and convert to PvP skin, like so many other skins, or will there be a way to obtain the skin on PvP exclusively?

I would wager that some champions drop weapon skins unique to them, or unique to their level bracket. It doesn’t make sense to farm the easiest champions for the best loot.

I would wager that some champions drop weapon skins unique to them, or unique to their level bracket. It doesn’t make sense to farm the easiest champions for the best loot.

My guess is they’ll try to make the weapons fit the boss’s “theme”.

So for example, I imagine the rapier would drop from pirate ones, such as Covington.

But what kind of theme do they follow? Like the Aetherized ones being Steampunk, or the Schlerite ones being alive.

…it doesn’t, it has horrible purplish runes… the darkened 2h Fellblade is unique in its own regard.

As 40/50 HoM, I don’t mind the HoM skins serving as bases for new skins making it into the game. Are you opposed to Jormag’s Breath (IDS) too because of the Fiery Dragon Sword you get at 10 pts? Same skin, just different looks…

I imagine they’ll settle eventually to somewhere around 4 gold plus? Which will make it similar to items we currently get from certain world bosses like the Shadow Behemoth. Champions are a dime a dozen in this game, and don’t tend to take too much effort to kill when there are groups of people around – depends how frequently these skins drop from the champs, I guess. But hopefully the addition of champion loot will encourage more people to go and battle the various champs around the world, and we’ll eventually have quite a stockpile of these weapons around.
