Remember how personal story was done? The world didn’t change. The player run to an area, where the player clicks “Yes I want to enter this instance” to enter his own personal story. No one else in the world is affected.

That’s what they should use in World Event contents.

Take the Twisted Marionette™ fight for example. Instead of having it on the world map, why not ask all the players interested to join into their own instance? The game can offer 50 TM fight channels, and allow the players to pick whichever one they want.

This will greatly reduce the queue times. More importantly, it allows guilds to play together every single time. Channel 1 to 43 are all full? Well I can still ask my whole guild to join channel 44, so my whole guild can still do the event together. This is much better than some of us doing it on SOS, some on TC and some on overflow.

Thoughts?

This, please. For the love of god this.

Being able to run to something like this, see a Channel Browser pop up like the SPvP system, where I can see how many groups there are, when the next event is going to start, how full they are, etc. would be perfect.

You would still have that plug and play system that Anet seems to want for these style encounters, and a built in raid browser for those who want a more controlled environment. And since the game seems to be able to make more Over Flow servers at a whimsey depending on the need, if all the channels fill up, more pop up for players to join.

You’d essentially be selecting an over flow to join. It’s a wonderful thought, and I’d love to see it implement. Right now, the Over Flow is one of the worst features in the game, and is starting to wear down the communities patience with content like this. I mean come on, the GW2 servers can’t be so terrible that we still need this many Over Flows.

I believe that Anet is trying to indeed change the world, which is why these events are not instances. However, they could release a private overflow for a guild, similar to how private pvp arenas work. It could work as a way of “creating” or reserving spots in an overflow for a guild or a group of guilds.

Aditionally, they could add a way to get small guilds to team up together to fill an overflow to be able to do an extremly coordinated overflow to achieve a world boss kill. This would also strengthen the sense of community involved in the world bosses kills.

I think we can all agree that the overflow system needs to be reworked in the near future, whether it be a system akin to GW1’s districts or (as suggested) a private overflow for large groups.

However, locking these events in instances would really hurt the casual players. (For the most part) Casuals just turn up at these events, get carried or maybe are invited into groups, possibly a teamspeak server, and can just play.
By instancing this content they have to specifically seek out large groups/guilds to play which for a lot of people is just a hassle.
And this will mean, a raidfinder and instant group invite systems are not far away.

Except that ‘casuals’ (whatever that means) are hurting the players who want to complete this content. The content isn’t tuned for low level stragglers. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard commanders say in map chat “If you are low level or aren’t serious about beating this boss, please consider a map change so that others who want the AP can come in.”

Now, for the record, I loathe this content. I absolutely despise everything about it. So, I say that low level players should swarm to Lornar’s very early and give those Commanders the good ol’ comeuppance they deserve.

You might be the worst sort of person. Based on your comment, that’s the idea I’m getting. Spiteful for the sake of spite.

Commanders are doing this because it’s a frustrating enough event as it is. The comeuppance they deserve? For what? For trying to coordinate a a blob (comprised of probably 30-40% terribad players) to victory?

Without these commanders or skilled players there, trash players would never stand a chance at this content. Not everyone has 4-6 hours to spend here daily.

The fault is with Arena Net for not making content like this instanced. They should stop trying to force us to play with people who are not going to be on board with the conditions for victory. It’s like forcing a basketball team to draft 50% of the team from people that don’t want to practice and will only play with their eyes shut the whole game.

The fact that it’s necessary to kick out low levels and non-contributors means there is something very wrong with these events, not the commanders. It should either be accessible and a joke, like all open world content, or difficult and instanced so that people can properly coordinate and strategize independently.

I don’t want my success in this event to be contingent on a lv 50 first time player who doesn’t know what the dodge roll is.

First off, I’m not the one asking the low level players to get lost from a low level map that they are perfectly entitled to be in. The Commanders are. You can call me whatever you like but being asked to leave a zone by a higher level player cannot feel very good to the new players. And that rests squarely on the hands of the aforementioned Commanders.

Secondly, I agree with you. This content should have been instanced. I loathe seeing open world raid bosses, especially of this difficulty. I left WoW to get away from that type of content. At least in WoW most of that type of content was instanced.

No, but you are the person suggesting and encouraging taking a dump on the efforts of roughly 125 individuals to prove some point. You’re suggesting wasting their time and their effort. Maybe you were just making a gesture without any meaning behind it. Just keep in mind, those commanders do a lot to make it possible to complete these events.

Yeah instanced would be the way to go. It would really avoid all the problems that content like this causes.

There are a lot of gameplay styles I dislike. I don’t like tanky builds and healers. I think they slow down the game and don’t add much to PvE. They take away from damage and active support that DPS players do through utilities. That said, I don’t join their groups to grief them. I stay my path and play with groups I know or PuGs that think similarly. I expect them to steer clear of mine as well.

Content like this is horrible because it forces these groups to play together. Instancing would fix this.

Casuals won’t be affected by my suggestion. No one is banned from entering a channel. They won’t be password protected.

Wow… Kalimdor… Orgrimar… and thousands players in one map. Here? 200-250max in one “room”. Joke.

Enough optimalizing this beta pre-release core.
