NEVER MIND my theory wasn’t as sound as i first thought. However if you wanna still read about it its all down here

Okay so i have no idea if this is news or not but i found a story in guild wars 1 night fall that tells of a guy named Jataro (who you actually met in factions and grew up).

Any way there isnt much but he tells you what he did growing up and he mentions that he fought a great beast in the jade see and mentions buying sea creatures trapped in jade from a jade quarry.

Pretty much exactly the jade maw fractal.

I hope this is new and if it isnt can someone direct me to where it is?
i wanna read as much on the lore as i can heh.

if u watch this video at 9:00 wp starts reading his text it is my interpretation that this is his fractal.

Jatoro refers quite ambiguously to sea life trapped within the jade.

The Jade sea was once a sea of water, so when it was turned to jade all of the creatures that lived within its waters were frozen inside the jade – you can observe this in Factions where we see dolphins and leviathans trapped in the jade.

So Jatoro doesn’t really have a lot to do with it, the Maw is likely just one of the many creatures that was trapped within the jade.

If you haven’t already played GW1 Factions then you might be interested in doing so since a decent amount of the game takes place on the Jade Sea.

also if u watch at 1:15 it starts to say how there was a mision in factions you could do that included him

also played all of gw 1
^^

and really the main bit i sort of source was the idea of this giant sea creature and the fact that it mentioned sea creatures trapped in jade that’s all that’s really IN that fractal.

i recon the researchers were wanting to study this creature and instead it broke free … or was from a time when the sea wasn’t frozen phased over a time where it was so u can have both existing in one place? but that last little bit is kinda clutching at straws
needa learn more about the mists

The jade blocks on the ground and the installation around them looks like a great quarry. Maybe this fractal belongs to Cantha. (just an idea, don’t know if it’s mentioned before)

Slow clap for the great puppet player.

on GW factions, one of the first things you do on the jade sea is kill the jade maw. he grew in size since then, because bigger budgets.

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/The_Leviathan is pretty much the GW1 version of the Jade Maw if I had to guess. They just re-imagined it for GW2.

Yes it was likely trapped, as are these http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Petrified_leviathan .

And yes the Jade Maw fractal is a piece of the Jade Sea captured for eternity within the Mists.

Actually, despite the appearance, the Jade Maw is a kraken apparently. It got a massive overhaul in appearance and now looks more like a kraken-leviathan mix.

The creatures trapped in jade that Jatoro talks about is actually seen in Istan. His crashed ship exists in the game, and you can see the jadeite slabs with sealife within he was talking about. What was in the slabs of jade? Standard fish and dolfins. No kraken, nor leviathan.

The Solid Oceanic Fractal is unrelated to Jatoro, who already explains he got the slabs of jade from The Jade Quarry – a place in Factions. The Fractal itself is just a mimicry of the Jade Sea and a kraken within it – the Jade Maw may even be the Mists having combined the leviathan and kraken species even.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

In other words, the Fractals themselves are sort of a blend between reality and any continuity events. Things like the Jade Maw or even perhaps the Colossus might have some sort of connection to the real, but the Mists themselves can either perfectly mimic or drastically alter said reality within itself.

…So it is impractical to try to link the Fractals with anything in Tyria, unless specifically looking for something. I can’t fathom how we were capable of picking on the trail of Scarlet if the Mists are that dynamic.

The mists is the building blocks of reality, so it has the ability to become anything (more or less). However as Tyria is made up of the mists and it’s pretty stable it would probably be more accurate to say that the mist doesn’t have set dynamics. Some areas are very stable and others are significantly less so.

Really, we don’t have much of an idea of what the Jade Maw (GW2) body is like, we just see tentacles and the head… which is kinda like the basilisks Kryta actually.

Errp, made an error in my wording there with Tyria and the Mists relation.

Still, I can agree that the Mists are a notoriously difficult thing to judge. Which is good, mysteries are fun right?
