Volrath of the Mist
I was looking to find a name where I could avoid using a surname altogether and get the feel of a legend. There is also not that many players which use the prepositions such as “of the” or “the” in their name, so it feels unique as well. As for the first name, its actually not my imagination, Volrath was a baddie related to the card game magic the gathering. Pretty happy with this one.
*As for this page "Magnus son of Olof " is TOP TOP TOP. 10/10
I like it 9/10, it has a mystic feel to it.
My Norn Guardian is Kildrak Icefist.
LV80 ELE Brutanitus
LV80 Ranger ScaryHydra
Aw, I got skipped.
My Norn Guardian is Kildrak Icefist.
8/10 – I like the name, but since he won’t ever be fighting with his bare hands, Ice-weapon-of-choice, or Ice-whatever-weapon-of-choice-does (Icehammer or Icesmasher for example) would have been better.
Aw, I got skipped.
7/10 – I like “Arngrim,” but both appellations don’t really say “ranger” (or how you described his personality and habits) to me.
…as for my second entry, I recently started a male Norn engineer Smidr Smidrson: he’s a tinkerer and slovenly, overweight slob from a long line of (disappointed) smiths.

Des Halldora, just ‘cuz I thought it sounds nordic. Correct me if i’m wrong
My Norn Guardian’s name is Svanira Coldsteel. As her name implies, she is the only “Daughter of Svanir”.
9/10 I think it sounds good.
My Norn warrior’s name is Thor Stórrbjorn. He was previously Thor Bearfury but I didn’t like how that flowed.
Stórr means Great/Huge and Bjorn means bear, but I am sure most of you already knew that.
And my Norn guardian’s name is Thor Vaskrbjorn.
Vaskr means brave.
I have always used Thor in my name (My favorite Norse god) through all my many years of playing WoW and any other game I’ve played I have always been known as Thor, Thorzerker or some other form of the two. So naturally Thor it was.
(edited by Thorzerker.6185)
These are fantastic names, I wish I had found this tread before character creation to get an idea.
My female Norn warrior is named Kalidasa Silverclaw. I thought the name was one I made up until I just now did a Google search and found this Wikipedia entry.
[K?lid?sa (“servant of Kali” Sanskrit: ???????) was a Classical Sanskrit writer, widely regarded as the greatest poet and dramatist in the Sanskrit language. His floruit cannot be dated with precision, but most likely falls within the 5th century AD.1
His plays and poetry are primarily based on the Hindu Puranas and Hindu philosophy.]
9/10 Nice name along that same vein I have my female warrior Fenrira Silverfang. extra cookies if you get the reference.
Fenris (or Fenrir) is a wolf in Norse mythology, Silverfang is a wolf in some book I may/not have read. 7/10 – Love the name, meh surname.
Can we get back to the rating, people? I know we’re in a rush to post our own unique little snowflakes, but…
Des Halldora – 6/10 – non-Norn name, good surname.
Svanira Coldsteel – 7/10 – good name, meh surname, hate the SoS.
Thor Stórrbjorn – 8/10 – “Thor” really? Awesome surname.
Thor Vaskrbjorn – 7/10 – I’m starting to see a pattern I don’t like here. Still a good surname.
Kalidasa Silverclaw – 6/10 non-Norn name, meh surname.

my female norn is called Theodora Rainer ^^
and i love her alot:)
Brandr Snowhammer.
Thor Stórrbjorn – 8/10 – I wouldn’t have gone for a god for the first name but the surname is excellent.
Thor Vaskrbjorn – 7/10 – Second verse same as the first. A good surname but not as good as your other one.
Kildrak Icefist – 7/10 – Good though the first name doesn’t leap out as very Norny. I quite like descriptive surnames as a name born from your deeds or attributes is very Norn to me.
(edited by Wonder Squid.6318)
Brandr Snowhammer – 10/10 Mmmm Brandr sounds like Brandy.
Frank Turner
Frank Turner: Sounds like a name of some singer. 7/10
My is Warbarin Nornlander, didn’t have too much inspiration.
Actually, I kind of like Warbarin (play on War Baron) and Nornlander reminds me of all my relatives in Rhinelander, WI. Very American Swede. 7/10
My norn warrior is Ölvir Adalríkr – A truly rough translation is Ölvir The Strong Noble. (Adal – Germanic “Noble” and RíkR – Norse “Mighty or Strong”)
My guardian is Æsa Ölvisdóttir (Æsa, Ölvir’s Daughter, very traditional)and my Engineer is Jag Är Mangisdóttir (rough translation of Old Norse for "I am No On’es Daughter. She’s a rebel, ya know…)
and yes, I do realize this is an old thread, but it’s fun. :P
Very nice names, I have always really liked the Æ character for whatever reason.
10/10 for each name
My norn guardian is named Sigleif the Bulwark
10/10 – I like that name, very unique and fitting for a guardian, especially if she’s using a shield or acting as one!
Mine is named Nora Valgarkin, she had great respect for her grandfather, who was named Valgar, who taught her a great deal about the life, how to hunt and be independent. Hence Valgar-Kin.
Very nice name 10/10. My guardian’s name is Sven Delacroix.
Cool name 9/10
My Norn Warrior’s name is Krag Bloodaxe
Your name fits the fact your a warrior perfectly I have a Guardian and he’s called
Roan The Defiant
Your name fits the fact your a warrior perfectly I have a Guardian and he’s called
Roan The Defiant
I do like Roan, it was easy to pronounce in my language ( Swedish ) 8/10
I personally got Kari Icebreaker
Verdandi Linquist
i like that one!! 9/10!!
another norn i have is devine Illusian. Hes a mesmer :/
Freyja Ernouf – Ranger
Thora Ernouf – Warrior
lvl 80 Ranger
JQ
The first names are very nice, they also fit really good with the classes. The way how the surname Ernouf sounds is a matter of taste (like everything), but the meaning is very Norn, 10/10 !!
Apologies for the wall of text now, but I always like to describe how I came to the names:
Aegir Maelstrom - Elementalist
My first character since betas, back then I didn’t know that letters like ä ö ü Æ ó and more were possible to use in GW2…I might change it one day.
First name is called after Ægir, god of the seas in norse mythology. The surname is a tribute to GW1, water magic was my most used element and Maelstrom was my favourite skill – Maelstroms by norse folklore could be described as strong water vortexes devouring ships. I think first name and surname fit very well. That’s how Aegir Maelstrom was born.
He is my oldest character not only by creation date but also in looks (looks like a greybeard in Skyrim). He is the father of my Guardian and Warrior.
———
Heimdall Ægirson - Guardian
It might be unoriginal to use a name of norse mythology again, but I haven’t seen any other Guardian named Heimdall so far, which is nice ^^
Heimdall, the all-hearing Guardian of the Bifrost and Asgard, could a name be more “Guardian”?
Heimdall is a young and gifted Guardian, even as kid salient to always protect others. He is the son of Aegir Maelstrom which explains the surname Ægirson.
———
Jora Ægirsdóttir - Warrior
The first name is a tribute to one of my favourite characters of GW1. l always had Jora with me, Earthshaker rules
Her surname comes from being the daughter of Ægir. Unlike her brother, she always was a fierce fighter, always seeking some battle, never trying to solve conflicts by calm but by intimidation and force. In battle she may be a savage beast, but she fights for the right thing. Jora and Heimdall always got along with each other, despite their distinct personalities.
———
- Placeholder for Ranger and Mesmer -
Aegir Maelstrom I absolutely love it, Maelstrom is such beautiful word, 10/10
———
Heimdall Ægirson 6/10 not my cup of tea I suppose :-\
———
Jora Ægirsdóttir It has nornic appeal to me, but since it is so short, it reminded me of asura, anyways 8/10 from me
as for me, I’ve got my warrior
Dushan Dubaak
SFR4LIFE
Bugs are evil, like cookies, but more evil.
The first name I like but not so much the surname. It doesn’t sound very Norny but i don’t have much experience with Norn names.
My warrior is called Mjorni Snowbeard.
First post, be gentle
Neira Kulvinde
Last name sounds Norn-like, but not too sure about the first name – I will give your name a 8/10
My male ranger’s name is Heru Wolfsen (last name is supposed to mean son of wolf)
Tidal Legion [TL] – Sea of Sorrows
9/10, it sounds very norn but it’s a bit difficult to remember if you don’t know what it is.
Desiré Snu Snu
I’m not quite sure how to rate ‘Desire Snu Snu’….. I’ll give it a 5.5/10 because it isn’t a norn name but it does fit into the Norn…. lifestyle I guess.
Mine is;
Zeann Deathblood (I would like to change the last name though)
She is a necromancer wearing red and white (cause demon face)
and she is brutal. At some point I plan on getting her to lvl 25 so she can get a full set of Shadow armour.
She wants to be priory
Personally I’m a fan of Norse names for Norn, but Zeann Deathblood sounds really nice – she will be a real beast when at Lvl 80 ^^
9/10
.
.
I posted some names already, now my Rangers name:
Ylva Vidarsdóttir
The first name is a valid name which is still used and means “she-wolf” – the surname means “daughter of Vidar”, Vidar can be a regular name but it initially comes from Vidar, a son of Odin, which often was seen as personification of the forest and the forces of nature.
My Ele female Norn is named Vengeful Valkyrie
9/10? I like it, because it seems like you’ve already earned a fearsome title from your adventures. The Valkyrie part is fitting.
My (female) Norn Thief is named Ragna Beifuss at the moment. Thinking of changing the last name sometime…
Grimmel Asatru.
and
Skwisgar Burzum.
Come at me.
Grimmel Asatru and Skwisgar Burzum sounds more germanic than Norse, right ? It’s surprising for a Norn, but I guess it can be explained somehow ?
Mine is Valmir Haakonsson
Son of Haakon Sharpeyes
Nicely done with the son.
Your next alt will end with Sharpeyesson? :p
A few of my Norn alt names:
- Alduin of Hrothgar
- Ysolda of Ysgramor
- Rebecca of Ragnarok
- Kyra of Kynareth
- Viktoria of Stendarr
^ A TES theme in the names I see?
I have a Norn Necromancer: Serana Blackheart
Probably not a very Norn name I am thinking. Serana is from Skyrim lol.
“Remember The Searing. We never forget, and never forgive.” – Family Motto

I have a Norn Necromancer: Serana Blackheart
Probably not a very Norn name I am thinking. Serana is from Skyrim lol.
Sounds more like a human name but still nice. 6/10 imo :P
My Norn Guardian; Valkrylot
Valkrylot – Guardian
~Underworld~
I like Valkrylot, but it doesn’t seem (to me) very Norn-like. My guardian: Asgarthe. I didn’t want a surname. Edit: I forgot a rating. 6/10.

Fàther, Guardian.

8/10, a unique name which surprisingly sounds Norn-like (at least, for me). Could use a surname, although it would sound like a priest if you do.
I have a Norn Thief named Enoch Schicksalson. Enoch is Biblical Latin, I know, but Braham seemingly comes from Abraham (I think. haven’t really searched it.) Schicksalson means “Son of Fate/Destiny” while Enoch means “Dedicated” – He is a Dedicated Son of Destiny.
Nothing says that norn name cannot derive from other sources than scandinavian languages. It sounds nornish, and has a flow to it.
I’d say 9/10.
My main’s name is Faleg Oglafsson. In time of roleplaying since early start he earned names of Waylander and Lorekeeper.
Yup.. sound very Nornish.
forgot the rating 9/10
I have 4 Norn, all female.
In GW1 I ended up with 22 toons and well, I kept forgetting the names.
So all the Norn (and non-norn characters) have the same last name, somehow, they all were either adopted or in direct lineage of Jenstone of Lars. Jenstone, above all, considered his closest friends as family and as a result the Stone clan (Stone Polishers Guild) absorbed all races. But over the decades, due to various issues, political and geographic, the clan members began to use Stones as the last name.
And it just so happens that this particular segment of the clan, the females have similar first names. Upon birth into the clan, the first names are given out by the patriarch and quite frankly, as he grew older, he got tired of being creative with names.
So, here is the result:
Jenna Stones
Jenra Stones
Jenia Stones
Jens Stones
His idea was to honor the originator of the Stone clan (The Stone Polishers) while keeping things simple.
In his mind, no matter what guild or activity that the Norn women find themselves in, everyone will know from which clan they belong to.
(edited by Jenstone.6891)
^ 5/10 Stone as last name sounds more fitting for dwarfs
I name my Norn Mail Order Bride caz it reminds me of Russian mail order bride, the simliar climate both inhabit. They’re are tall, blonde, and looks like a pornstar as well.
Godrik Velfär
Olaf Seijnsson
Ragnar Sjuukon
Godrik Velfär
Olaf Seijnsson
Ragnar Sjuukon
Godrik (and its many spelling variants) is one of my favorite names, and Velfär goes with it seamlessly. Great name, 9 out of 10.
Olaf Seijnsson is also impressive, but for some reason the “j” in the surname is throwing me off; makes it feel like Olaf’s sire was Far Eastern (and maybe he was, who am I to say?). Still, not a bad name overall, 8 out of 10.
Ragnar Sjuukon is in a similar place for me as Olaf. Ragnar is a great Norn name in my opinion, but the phonetics for Sjuukon just strike me as something other than Norn. I’ll give this one a 7 out of 10.
My first Norn, whose name I can not seem to top for myself, is Joramun Ironbreaker.
i named my norn Alsvid
(one of the two horses drawing the chariot bearing the sun ,in norse mythology)
