Do you think it would be realisable to give a switch for ele/engi when they are out of combat ?

I just feel like they have a little disadvantage since they can have only 2 sigil. Would be nice if they can get 4 like others. Well proc on crit/swap/ wouldn’t work, but it’s mostly cause i’d love to get my favourite combo (5% damage, energy/fire and stack on 2nd set :/)

To be sure you understand, I want to keep this sigil stack, so don’t tell me that I can just change weapon everytime…

For me one weapon set on engi right now is big disadvantage in terms of stack sigils on second pair of weapons. Right now you can have that sigil on underwater weapon yes but def already said it will be fixed.

I would love to see an out of combat weapon swap for the Ele profession not for the sigil stacking/swapping thing you mentioned, but because of …

… switching from staff to two one handed weapons is a hassle with the inventory and I am sure I am not the only one that had to fight a Thief with only the main hand dagger in hand, because I was ambushed.
… Eles already have the short stick when it comes to the weapon swapping mechanic (attunements) as only them are effected by Chill on their weapon swap ability.

What Engi doesn’t use weapon kits – what build? Proof? Remember that Rocket launcher, etc can also be considered ‘weapon kits’.

OP wasn’t asking for in combat weapon swapping.

OP was asking for OUT of combat weapon swapping that does not involve opening up the inventory to do so.

im sorry but i disagree, somewhat. The eles 4 attunements arent like having 4 weapon sets at all, because the auto attack on water and earth is completely worthless. Fire AA, works, and lightning is great. An ele has to swap between all 4 attunements nonstop to be effective (which im not against, I love it). To say its like having 4 weapons though, I have to strongly disagree. However i have no problem with the Ele having no weapon swap, I DO think there should be an out of combat weapon swap though. Its not the BIGGEST deal but it should be an option in my opinion. As for the ENGI, they def should have weapon swap. As of right now, I dont find it too big a deal, but ENGIs have been promised a melee weapon for about a year now, and when it comes, I believe we should get weapon swap as well. Of course the counter argument is that we have grenades for range, which is true, and theyre possibly the best ranged weapon honestly, however they require a chunk more skill than the average player actually has imo. just my 2 cents

The same can be said for Engineers. KITS are NOT utility skills, they take over the bar. Rocket Launchers, etc do act as a utility skill – You want them OP – sorry NO!

It is fine the way it is.

This argument reminds of the Saboteur nerf in Rift in the first 2 weeks of the game. People were whining about Sabs being OP but they were glass cannons and people didn’t know how to play against them. Rather than learning to play, Trion nerfed them to oblivion to appease the whiners. This is the same thing here, Ele and Engineers already to copious amounts of data and they have good survival built in.

People want to play ele’s because in other games, they are the easiest profession to play. In GW1, they were not (and most people did not play them well). In GW2, as in GW1, they take a bit more finesse, just like a Mesmer does. People said earth and water skills were not worth anything in GW1 also but an earth ele, if played right is a great support role, just as a water ele is.

A.Net collects reams of data on this and if they haven’t changed it by now, they won’t as the game is balanced the way it is. If they add extra weapons, all it will do is unbalance the game.

OP is not asking for weapon swap like warriors have.

OP is asking for weapon swap that will only work out of combat. Like ele’s and engi’s already have to do. We just want the ability to not have to open up the hero panel, open up the equipment tab, and put our second set on and hope an enemy doesn’t find us in the time it takes to switch sets.

All we’re asking for is a quality of life change. Nothing that would affect combat.

Engineer doesnt need more weapon swaps. It needs the weapons it has to be useful. CDs are too long and advantages too small.

As it is, if you dont play kits you arent playing engineer. Period.

Lets look at rifle:

  1. a shot that is not as powerful as Ranger SB and much slower, has shorter range than Warrior, does not bounce or AOE on hit. A weak and useless skill.
  2. 2 1/2 secs Immobilise with no damage and 10s CD. Useless.
  3. functional
  4. is as much a disadvantage to you as the enemy vs groups of enemies. Its condition removal is its only function.
  5. functional but why only 3 vuln? I can apply more than that with Opening Strike on Ranger, and can apply far more in a stack with its AA on sword. 20s CD. Useless.

And pistols:

  1. functional if a little weak. Not a match for Thief SB or Ranger Axe.
  2. weak and pointless. 2s poison? Hardly any impact damage and 10s CD? Useless.
  3. weak. 134 damage vs #1s 118. 4 bounces of blind and confusion is only useful if you are trying to escape.
  4. functional.
  5. does NO damage, just immobilise and cripple with 30s CD. Useless.

Shield:

  1. reflection functional, push back useless.
  2. Throwing damage is ok, but if you are hit whilst it is charging, it does NO damage at all, just stun. Useless.

Shield is a waste of a weapon slot. All the Engineer weapons are useful for is storing sigils for your kits.

Just plain no to this, this would make both classes instantly totally out of control overpowered.

Both classes are already the classes, which have access to most of skills at combat at any given time.

However, a Weapon Swap that just works outside of combat thats linked together with long recharge times, so that it can’t be abused in combats for quick retreats to get out of combat quickly for a weapon swap constantly, thats ok.

As long the goal of this change is it to just make the handling of equipment for those classes more comfortable to avoid the usage of the Hero Panel, thats absolutely fine.

I have an Engineer (that I mostly play for WvW) and I don’t have the issues you are talking about. None of what you are talking about is useless – learn WHEN to use the skills as it is not about just spamming them randomly.

It was asked to SWAP weapons OUT OF COMBAT … so its just that you don’t have the hazzle with inventory management.

And i’m all for it .. it plain sucks if i use a staff and want to change to Scepter/Dagger and after that there is a free space in my invisible bag, so that i have to fill it with salvage kit or any other junk that i can’t sale for accident, and when i want to change again i first have again to move that into a normal bag, so that i have again space for 2 weapons.

And for Ele AA .. on Scepter Fire also is bad .. so Lightning is the only decent.

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

I would not be opposed to this. However, what button would be used as default for this? Ele’s (and Engi’s most likely, never played one) don’t use the ~ at the moment.

I would also not be opposed to be it being PvE only even if other classes are given a set swap that’s also PvE only (and possibly WvW as well, how many ele’s would be there percentage wise). It does take time to manually switch vs swapping via a button. So I do see it being disallowed in sPvP, even if the weapon set swap is allowed. Also helps with balancing issues since fewer combinations.

Probably as a part of a multi-build system with armor and weapon slots and trait templates. I’m so tired of switching everything each time I switch PvE/WvW/PvP, and with the new PvE weapons in PvP it just got more annoying.

Its not about garbage. If I come into a sPvP match, i don’t have access to my inventory and I can’t change weapons. With my thief I have access to 2 weapons each with 5 skills. When I come with my Elementalist, i have 1 weapon with 4 attunements, each having 5 skills. Its not fair If the Ele can use S/D against a certain professions, then get out of combat and switch to D/D because he see another professions and then engage that guys with a different set. I get that its out of combat, still that give a advantage to the Ele that now have a lot more choice of skill during each battle.

Now if you talk about PvE. Its only a quality of life things of how you can switch around weapons between fight. What you propose don’t give you any real advantage over someone else, which is ok. But why just add a out of combat weapons switch for only 1 weapon set and only for engie and ele? Maybe its better to give better tools for inventory management? Like a set of shortcut that allow you to use item form your inventory by only pressing a key. Like if i press shift+1 i use a potion of slaying, when i press shift +2 i switch my Staff to a Scepter, using shift + 3 will put a focus as secondary weapons, etc.

That would fix the real problem witch is inventory management between combat while not giving advantage to ele and engie in PvP content. Don’t say that my idea is the best (i just throwing the first thing that i could think of), but fixing inventory management see to be a far better thing to do than just fix Engie or Ele.

Its really annoying constant switching between these items in inventory. would dtill have to switch from inventory , as depending on situation I use staff, d/d, d/f, s/f…but if I could have at least one swtich slotted, would be excellent.

Why can’t anyone at least READ THE FIRST POST before you start to post unrelated stuff ???

It was asked to SWAP weapons OUT OF COMBAT … so its just that you don’t have the hazzle with inventory management.

And i’m all for it .. it plain sucks if i use a staff and want to change to Scepter/Dagger and after that there is a free space in my invisible bag, so that i have to fill it with salvage kit or any other junk that i can’t sale for accident, and when i want to change again i first have again to move that into a normal bag, so that i have again space for 2 weapons.

And for Ele AA .. on Scepter Fire also is bad .. so Lightning is the only decent.

That would be too hard to implement and I can see that there would be a huge exploit issue. NO

People are only reading builds that have been released on various build calculators, not trying it on their own. An example of this is Sceptre/Pistol mesmers are supposed to be bad but I have figured out a build where they are not bad but actually work really well. Unless you have tried it, HOW DO YOU KNOW?

Personally I think you’re wrong. If it was implemented in Pve and WvW only, and was for all professions, I think it would be wonderful. Basically, it would free up inventory space and fix a QoL issue many of us have. Just because you don’t like the idea doesn’t make it a bad one.

THIS! Agreed 2000%! Some people just need to learn to take a moment and read before blurting out garbage.

Its not about garbage. If I come into a sPvP match, i don’t have access to my inventory and I can’t change weapons. With my thief I have access to 2 weapons each with 5 skills. When I come with my Elementalist, i have 1 weapon with 4 attunements, each having 5 skills. Its not fair If the Ele can use S/D against a certain professions, then get out of combat and switch to D/D because he see another professions and then engage that guys with a different set. I get that its out of combat, still that give a advantage to the Ele that now have a lot more choice of skill during each battle.

Now if you talk about PvE. Its only a quality of life things of how you can switch around weapons between fight. What you propose don’t give you any real advantage over someone else, which is ok. But why just add a out of combat weapons switch for only 1 weapon set and only for engie and ele? Maybe its better to give better tools for inventory management? Like a set of shortcut that allow you to use item form your inventory by only pressing a key. Like if i press shift+1 i use a potion of slaying, when i press shift +2 i switch my Staff to a Scepter, using shift + 3 will put a focus as secondary weapons, etc.

That would fix the real problem witch is inventory management between combat while not giving advantage to ele and engie in PvP content. Don’t say that my idea is the best (i just throwing the first thing that i could think of), but fixing inventory management see to be a far better thing to do than just fix Engie or Ele.

In this case, in pvp matches, eles won’t be considered as ooc, just like the inventory/ traits get locked, even when you’re ooc in the match.

We;re asking for a single key switch, to switches we do anyway. thats all, not advantages,a carry slot if you will, so they’re not in inventory, and can be switch with a single key press. WHEN ooc, /out of a match.

I wonder if the naysayers play eles/engies? ..and play them often. the 20skills isn’t really a good reason against this, as we use multiple weapons anyway, I switch when ooc quite alot. so I’m still memorising and using all those different skills, what we’re asking would save the hassle of dealing with the inventory.

Personally I think you’re wrong. If it was implemented in Pve and WvW only, and was for all professions, I think it would be wonderful. Basically, it would free up inventory space and fix a QoL issue many of us have. Just because you don’t like the idea doesn’t make it a bad one.

It would be open to exploitation – plain and simple. A great example was in GW1 with the Ursan Skill – that was an exploit waiting to happen and players used it droves.

It is a bad one – period. There are mechanical reasons they set the professions up the way they did. All the arm chair quarterbacking done here, is no more than what happens with other game’s forums. A.Net has loads of data on damage, etc. and there is reasons why ele’s and Engineers do not have extra weapons – they are more pliable than the other professions because of Attunements and kits, respectively.

I get that its out of combat, still that give a advantage to the Ele that now have a lot more choice of skill during each battle.

All that’s being asked for is to shortcut the hassle of opening up your inventory and equipping a different weapon. How exactly does having a shortcut for this give an advantage?

People are only reading builds that have been released on various build calculators, not trying it on their own. An example of this is Sceptre/Pistol mesmers are supposed to be bad but I have figured out a build where they are not bad but actually work really well. Unless you have tried it, HOW DO YOU KNOW?

I think all of us who agree on this issue are fine with it being a feature for ALL professions. How is that in favor of one class or another? Also you failed to answer my question above. I’ll quote it to you in a second.

But you can’t stop progress out of fear of something going wrong.

Frankly speaking, they should just implement a less tedious way to equip-unequip items/pop consumables. Having to open your inventory/Hero panel, look for it among your many other weapon/armor sets/consumables, find->double click it consumes too much time.

Though I understand that they deliberately avoid burden of knowledge, having such a clunky gameplay deters new players from the game and some people even see themselves forced to employ third-party programs, even if it goes against the ToS.

Even the oldest games, such as Ragnarok Online had a way to swap your gear with one or two key presses. They could even limit themselves to adding three key-bindable extra slots to the skill bar exclusively dedicated to items and it wouldn’t be anything too hard to learn.

I think it would be best to ask for temples build saves over this so an ele or eng could simply swap to a new save build for there wepon swapping out of combat.

This would let the eng and ele have there gear and builds set up for the weapons they want to swap to outside of combat for the boon etc.. that you may want to use before a fight. Think of it stitching to d/d for aoe aura then back to staff before the fight so your pt can get a nice boon boots at the start of the fight and you will not lose your staff ability during that fight.

As far as Cantha – that has been argued ad nauseum. The reasons are internal to A.Net and probably will never be fully known.

Also, is the fact that ALL the Tengu have left Cantha (Lore time). Also read the book, in the Priory part of DR, ‘The Winds of Change’. In it it was suggested that Cantha was closed off to the rest of the world because of the Dragons. All the dragons would need defeated before Cantha would be added again.

What about the fact that, we are swapping them ooc anyway? and we’re just for asking single keybind to this and a slot space outside of inventory to hold the weapons.
I mean ele’s and engies are switching weapons anyway. You’d have a point if we never switched weapons.

2. No .. you don’t have given plausible explanations .. i don’t know what any skill from a totally different game has to do with a weapon swapping mechanism in this game.

I could else also say : Oh .. playing games on windows is something we never should want to do because windows is so full of bugs and can be exploited .. it will never happen. Only games on Linux or nothing else.

I’m just saying, lets try to build a global system for easy weapons switching while out of combat because right now the inventory management is really bad. But that’s a global issue with all the professions not Ele and Engie specifically. Engineer was my first profession. During the first 3-4 months of the game i played almost exclusively on my engie on which I completed my storyline, did all the dungeon. After my guardian became my main in PvE, i still continue to play only Engineer in WvW and sPvP for about a year. Ele was my third character and I played it a long time only a few times per week. But for the last 6 months its my main for dungeon running.

Weapon diversity is an issue as well, and not all engis use kits btw but still those engis that don’t do not want legendary weapons because of the problems we face with lack of weapon choices.

Trying to pass of “I don’t want to use kits” as a reason to have more weapons is ridiculous. That’s like me saying “I’m a Mesmer but don’t want to use Focus, Torch, Sword, Pistol or Greatsword, so we need more weapon diversity please!”

I agree with the above – NO and NO. The Ele has 4 attunements they can use and that is like having 4 sets of weapons. The Engineer has kits and again that is like having more weapons (they have their own skills attached to them).

I find nothing wrong with it and if they do get an actual weapon swap, the same people complaining about wanting a weapon swap will be back complaining that these professions are now OP because of it.

And ignoring a completely valid concern in the diversity of a class that’s suffered greatly in PVE because of the issues with kits not being on par with the damage of most weapons, as well as many of their skills being completely usless in combat doesn’t make you right in the slightest.

I find alot wrong with the concept of requiring engineers to use kits as their only build options, we have gadgets and turrets which completely suck in PVE due to weakness and due to a lack of trait diversity. Where you’re advocacy for using those tools hmm? I guess you forgot those existed because even the devs have admitted that they made kits too good.

Just because you prefer kits doesn’t make it a valid argument against having more weapons available for engineers, in fact it supports the reason why engineers need more weapon options and weapon switching.

How exactly will adding 1 more slot to weapons and adding more options for weapons for engineers going to be an issue with balance? Because aside from the balance team having to work a bit more to ensure that it plays properly in PVP I see absolutely 0 arguments that are factual that would make it possible for Engineers or Eles to faceroll oponents just from adding these options.

I do however see a whole bunch of warrior/guardians/thieves suddenly concerned that doing this just might give engineers/eles enough diversity skills that would allow us to finally be on par with what those three classes take for granted.
