So I was bored and decided to get a Cavalier Armor set. This was mostly WvW roaming and some duels.
Armor is all Cavalier exotic
Trinkets are Celestial amulet cav rings, knights accessories with zerk jewels. Ruby orbs instead of runes.
2054 power
27% chance to crit prefury
72 critical damage
2740 toughness
15k HP.
Standard D/D 0/10/0/30/30 setup but I slot arcane shield for sure to take advantage of the critical damage. Run soothing wave to help with condi’s since I am not running cleansing fire.
On ascended I would say that if you have enough crit chance and are looking at celestial on legs I would look at cav legs since they give the same critical damage now with more power and more toughness. Celestial still is the best critical damage on helm and coat but at ascended level, all crit damage gear is the same on legs now at 4.
As anyone can guess cav is good against melee not good against necro’s. It works against pretty much every class except necros because the hp pool is way to low.
What I have come to realize about standard D/D 0/10/0/30/30, 0/15/0/25/30, 0/20/0/20/30, and 0/10/10/20/30 is that if you are looking for damage but don’t want to go full zerk.
No matter what the numbers are going to pretty much come out to about the same in a PvP environment as long as you understand how power, precision, crit damage works. The defining difference is rune choices which will make your damage either front loaded or backloaded.
Front loaded – any dps rune set
Back loaded – boon duration
I think cav armor can really shine in a fresh air s/d build. With a few valk pieces haven’t tried it yet though but will later
So really D/D with 20 water and 30 arcana is almost always going to be about the same damage unless you go extremes of full zerk or full bunker. Not really any math need to support any of this looking for more damage on D/D then you have to move trait points from water and arcana. Cavalier armor is for if you value thoughness and crit damage and I would only recommend running it if you are ok with your crit chance. Knights armor > cav for me personally if I had to chose between full knights or full cav.

Met a tc ele called incenerary that destroyed me as full zerker. I’m running the same gear and stats you are. Only thing I’d say might work better dps wise is celestial. Use the gain health on crit food..

Ahh Inceneray is pretty good he runs Scepter focus I think mostly.
Looking at cavalier and celestial effective power comparisons for standard d/d setup they are about the same dps wise assuming 10 stacks of might and good fury uptime. It is kind of like celestial vs soldiers factors like might, fury, runes change which one is better or worse.

He had too much burst and kept me at range lol. Was pretty frustrated. Cant wait to get back to gw2 in 4 months and get even better at ele. I’ve learned a lot thanks to the support of my ele friends.
The way I see it ozi it is not about the armar type, it is about mixing different set of gears to reach your desirable stats. I remember a couple of months ago when I posted my stats on this forum there were so many wondering how I got those stats and my answer was “I run a mix of different gears". I currently use cavilier, soldier, knight, zerker, and Valkyrie in my burst non glass Ele to meet the stats i like for hp, armor, power, crit dmg and crit chance. For my playstyle I don’t care about the other stats.

Really people aren’t looking for what armors work best, they’re looking for what stat spread works best. Truth of the matter is that it depends on the player. Some facts about stats are that Vitality is always going to be better than Toughness when given the option between the two, healing isn’t strong enough to allow it and Defense to scale similarly to the way Attack and Critical Chance do.
Also I prefer to avoid Celestial, because usually it results in wasted stat points on Condition Damage and Healing Power. If ever there is a day where ANet release a stat combination that has Vitality and Precision both in it, min maxers will be all over it, because we know Celestial Wastes stat points.

There is, it’s called Magi’s. It’s healing power primary, with precision and vitality.

I can’t possibly see why anyone would ever put that on with what is available now. I know some support guards liked the combination before celestial was released.
It makes me sad to see just how much work (and gold) people go through to try and find that solo D/D spec again.
My biggest issue is getting away from warriors that are going to be at the front of the group chasing you. Take EBG for example. There’s just so much ground you have to cover to get to a safe location again.
I decided to do a PVT ascended set. I am taking my time to make it, not throwing gold into buying the cloth already made. I have 2.5 pieces made so far, that aren’t infused. I switched out of melandru runes because I can’t stand having to use a trait or utility or heal for extra movement speed, and put travelers in it. I guess I still have the option to buy some celestial ascended pieces at this point as I’ve only done legs, boots, and started coat (all due to the fact I like the appearances of the armor lawl). PVT trinkets are a bad option, as the damage is terrible. Celestial are decent. I find clerics lackluster, as they still under-perform as bunker. Clerics and celestial shine if you’re just going to try to flip camps, but lets be honest, high crit damage will annihilate npcs. So right now I’m running zerker trinkets (with agony stuff on it instead of wvw stats, because it’s used in fractals lol). This is about 50% crit damage, I think.
So for specs, I’ve had mediocre success with 0/0/20/20/30 stab on earth attune. But it’s very hard to get out of combat with this, even with FGS up. I’ve not really tried a 0/20/0/20/30. But it seems like having reduced RTL, with reduced cantrip LF will be key, and pump out the good 1v1-3 damage required.
I’ve been having problems with rifle warriors with pvt because their health barely moves, and I find it hard to avoid all of the killshots. Not really sure what we’re supposed to do vs necro as D/D. Probably should just run away and switch to x/F.
I have partial cav trinkets I will try, with zerker in the rest of the slots. I didn’t really know about cav armor until a week after the big patch.
As for Magi’s, we would actually want something like Vitality, Power, Precision. In spvp the zerker gear has vitality on it. I know there’s some ascended stuff that have 4 stats on it. My zerker amulet has Power, prec, vit, and crit damage. I bought that one by accident, and never really changed it.
The settler’s ascended is another interesting option over PVT. It’s VPT. This would help vs condis, but nerf our damage in the process. Seems like a good set to run if you were going to do diamond skin, I guess. Or just generally want to max out a VS-condis setup. Probably good in GvGs.
I change my spec and trinkets multiple times every day. There’s nothing comparable to the old bunker of yesteryear. I think the kind of eles that bother me the most are perplexity, and those that don’t want to stop chasing when they know neither of us are going to die to each other.
Crit pieces = heal on crit food.
Most everything else = anti-condi food.
Lots of time running away = anti-condi food. Or Vital/Toughness if you’re cheap.
(So I hope the mods aren’t accusing me of derailing the thread for sharing my experience overall this time, as I like being able to post more than once a week, instead of compile a week of posts into one.)
One thing I did yesterday or the day before:
Had a hard fight with myself and a mesmer vs a necro and an engie. I swapped out lightning flash for signet of earth and used magnetic grasp+signet on the necro every time it was up. If the engie was hard focusing me, I had to run out for all cds to be up. This let the mesmer 1v1 with the necro a bit. We were both trying to get the necro down first because of the spike damage. Won vs them once out of the three times. The combined cc, with condi pressure is really too much.
Please make toughness negate condition damage. That is the only thing that will ever balance things overall. The nukes with condis right now will take you from 21k health to downstate and people know they can do this. That’s why there’s way more necros now. It’s just so far out of sync that I don’t think they’re even paying attention to what is happening. The damage will burst you down in mist form, or using anything that negates damage. There’s nothing you can do at all when you have more than 4 condis on you. It’s just -BAM- downed.
So necros can be strong agaist everything. Make heavy conditions spikes longer cast time and easiier to notice esp on necros. Make iduelists disappear after they blow their load on your face. Conditions are just harder to notice/dodge.
If I don’t see you Frowny, best of luck in Basic. Hit me up when you get your laptop back.

For sure. Hopefully you don’t completely pass me up in skill lol.
