and yet another great example of pvp players selfishness…
They are the 1% and the want 100%…..
Dear Altroll
PvE and www players are seriously fed up from suggestions that doesn t take in account the most played parts of the game….and can really ruin an already ridicously unbalance situation. So At least make an effort to think “this game is not only pvp…pvp is the least played game mode….”
Because for how is the game now would have more sense to halve warrior damage while doubling ele’s and reverting all nerfs it ever seen.
PvE needs MORE attention than PvP……or this game will completely die withhis e-sport dream.
Most PvP players are superior to PvE/WvW players as there is a higher skillcap.
i can stop here being proven absolutely false…
And it proves the usual pvp elitism of players not much better than coff farmers
The first thing i thougt when i got to www etc was “hey those guys really can t evade anything”
You saw plenty players complaining about:
RTL into updraft
Churning earth
And EVEN meteor shower…
XD tell me again how pvp/www players are good…just look at few posts on pvp and www forum…..
But hey this evening 17 gmt+1 i will play fotm 48 come and show me your superior skills…..
Or please avoid this elitism…..
Thanks to PvP this game have been ruined already too much…..
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.
(edited by LordByron.8369)
please tell me again how you just told that pve gets 80% attention when i said PvE balance needs attention….
The issue of this game is a horde of self centered pvp beginners that think they know everything…….
You don t even know how agony works and that at 48 you get oneshot by most agony Attacks…(despite any AR you may have)
You are so pro in pve….
If you could gladly stop talking of something clearly you are unexperienced would be great ty.
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.
I’m sorry but I can barely understand your wording here, are you honestly explaining to me that you think PvP is the reason why your gamemode, which has the largest staff and receives the most updates, is bad?
Your English is honestly so atrocious that I feel like I need to print this out and rub a dictionary on it as though cleansing an unholy sin. Agony is a dumb and uninteresting mechanic. Who cares if it one hit kills you? How does that make it challenging? There is a difference between a skillcap and difficulty. I wouldn’t even call it difficulty, mostly just have a semi-competent team back you up.
Honestly it is such people like you that give PvE players a stereotypical bad name of nonsense spreaders. I don’t know a single person that thinks PvE receives less attention than PvP except you.
I lost interest in fractals after level 20, because all you’re doing is replaying the same thing but slightly harder. Atleast in PvP I’m fighting skillful people with working intelligence, on a team that also has working intelligence. As far as I’m concerned doing Fractals is nothing more than playing a single Pacman level to get all the coins you can in order to buy more gear to do the same thing over again.
(edited by TheMightyAltroll.3485)
I lost interest in fractals after level 20.
Fact:
You never played endgame PvE
Fact:
You permit to say people are BAD despite you lack experience…..
Please stop….the forum is already bad as it is.
P.S. for my english, this is an eu forum….so you don t have ANY right to complain..
But i start to see a pattern…..
Some younger players that still don t know how to behave does that usually.
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.

So basically we should have a weapon suitable for a single situation only out of thousand?
We may as well make an entire profession and call it “Defender”, give it the ele staff and you’re good to go
It’s high damage over time aoe+some control mixed in. If you want direct, instant damage go D/D.
Since it’s high damage over time it’s obviously very useful for area control. But no, it’s not only useful for area control. Like I said, I don’t get too many badges when using staff, but I do get them. When I have time to play gw2 decent amounts I get something like 250/week. That’s really not all that low, considering I don’t like joining zergs, and escorting dolyaks for swiftness, which I often do, doesn’t even award badges.
Staff is very high damage, especially on large groups, because it scales well. You kinda need 50 people to have 5 constantly in your aoes anyway, most aren’t dumb enough to just stand in them. And this goes for every class…

Sorry, you can’t (maybe play a Mesmer?)
I wish they would give that to Elementalists, but then again every class has something that it can’t do (e.g. my Guardian’s ranged damage = 0). Maybe that’s just what we are supposed to be like :/

Use RTL. Or roll a warrior, use rifle. It’s not aoe, but oh well, it’s instant damage at range.
It really is that simple. You can’t have everything. Pick 3. Range, Aoe, Damage, Instant. I don’t think any class has all 4 on the same weapon.

Well…the thing is that other classes can switch to a different weapon to cover for these gaps.
Grenade kit also comes close to fulfilling all of your criteria except maybe the ‘instant’ part(which is why every single Engineer uses it…)
Edit: Don’t nerf my Engineer! : (
Yeah, have to agree on grenades. They have been nerfed already though, so you’re probably safe for a while longer. By instant I mean instant damage, of course, rather than damage over time like with meteor storm/lava font or conditions.
As for switching weapon, I still think we should get an OOC weapon swap. Just for the convenience of not having to run around with my inventory open all the time. It kittens me off.
First, I’m not trying to troll anyone but I often come to the forums seeking advice on how to play my class(s) and it just feels like they are all full of “gloom and doom.” After spending 30 minutes reading these threads, a new player would probably walk away thinking that an Ele can be tanked by a bunny, that ranger pets can 1-shot us, and that the Anet devs personally hate our class so much that it was only invented as a way for them to torment the world.
Seriously folks, yeah, my Ele can’t fly around the world like I’m used too but she’s still a ton of fun to play. Even with my crap gear, I find that I can generally hold my ground against most people. As for zergs, I continue to troll them like always and then just pray I can get away quick enough.
Anyways, sorry about this rant but to me, the game is still fun and I find something new to learn about my class every time I login.
But it is true! A bunny would probably killed us(if we are nerfed more and more) and a buffed up ranger pet could 1-shot us and do you see any devs even posting in this forum? Any? Maybe 1 or 2 after launch, but now? HARDLY any devs even come in to at least talk about it. And don’t give me the reason they don’t need to post anything because in other sections of the forum, they do post something, even unrelated stuff on occasions, but the elementalist forum? Do you see any RED post? Any?
Yup, dont get it either. Im doing just fine on my D/D ele.
The range on RTL was abit of a kick in the nuts, but i adjusted.
Try playing a staff and see if you can say you are doing just fine?
I feel an elementalist should not be using daggers in the first place, but that is an argument for another day.
Anyways, go play a staff like me and some other rare elementalist who still stick to staff. Don’t switch to d/d for anything, do dungeons/events with staff. And see if you will see the “glooms and dooms”.
(edited by SirDrygan.1823)
I do most events with staff. Meteor shower on them large hitboxes = lol 500k damage. As for dungeons, I swap between staff, d/d and s/d, depending on the situation. Oh no!
I logged back into my D/D Ele again this morning just to mess around with it a bit as honestly, it was my favorite class in the game until the RTL changes. After 30 minutes of playing, I logged back into my Mesmer and was just sad on how much I miss my old character.
Granted my Mesmer isn’t as fast around the field but with stealth + centaur runes, there’s not a ton of difference on being able to escape. What’s sad is that with roughly the same quality gear, my Mesmer has a 42% crit rate, 91% crit damage bonus, 2340 armor, and over 19K health. While not the best, she’s able to dish out simply insane damage on a target before they even have a real chance to do anything.
I love my Ele (and probably always will) but really, why would I play the Ele anymore when my Mesmer has more versatility and can get better results for my WvW group?

Aesthetics?
Sorry, it’s all I can think of. It’s basically the only reason I play mine. I like the performance of my alts more, but I like the look, feel, and playstyle of the Elementalist better. It’s also the reason I run Staff 99% of the time. I rolled a Mesmer alt, and even upleveled from 20 it hit harder in WvW and had more escape options (b/c clones actually fool people in WvW apparently). I deleted it because I don’t like the aethetics.
The simple fact is that Elementalist needs trait work in a big way. There’s a reason almost everyone runs the same build.
There’s only “one” build that works well with any weapon you choose. It’s the 0/x/y/20+/30 build. Since most of us don’t like to be forced into using just one weapon until we get a chance to visit the book dude, we pick that.
I also think 30 arcane is almost mandatory. Attunements should be off cooldown as soon as possible so that versatility people talk about actually exists…

I find it amusing in the extreme that after nerfing Evasive Arcana, Cleansing Water, and Zephyr’s Boon we still use almost the exact same build as before. Most people dropped Cleansing Water after the nerf, but otherwise it’s the same build.
I wonder when it’ll become obvious that the Water/Arcane build isn’t the default because it’s so amazing. It’s the default because the others are just not that great.
I’ve always used powerful auras, it’s just too good in dungeons and wvw (I don’t really do spvp, so I dunno about there), but yeah, it’s not that water/arcane is good, it’s just attunement cooldowns, coupled with the fact that most fire/air/earth traits only work for specific builds, and specific builds generally require specific weapons. I can’t afford to be locked into staff when doing WvW or dungeon, because fights do happen in melee. I can’t afford to be locked into d/d either, for the same reason, fights do happen at range.
So I go for 30 water, 30 arcane. 30 water gives me heals, condition removals, and +10% damage all the time, rather than in just one attunement, and arcane cuts a large portion of the attunement cooldown while also giving me evasive arcana, blasting staff/vigorous scepter/windborne dagger and elemental attunement, which is worth it for the protection on demand alone.
Put traits into fire, air and earth that work in every situation, like the ones in water and arcana do and people might move. I know I won’t move from arcana (the cooldown reduction is mandatory IMHO), but I might drop water for fire if it gave something worthwhile.

Static Discharge engi, which coincidentally, is basically the superior version of scepter/dagger arcane burst.
Regardless, I don’t care about AoE, or even about the damage being dealt instantly/nearly instanly, I just want a freakin’ ranged option that actually works 1v1. Frankly, there’s no reason for eles to lack ranged capability when warriors and engineers are supposed to be restricted in their range, yet possess some of the best in the game.
Bunch of whining kids who have a class that has the easiest learning curve in the game , the best condi removal in the game, the best healing in the game next to guardian , the most escapes in the game next to thief , and some of the best aoe application/fields you can give to a group next to ranger’s water healing spring field and are complaining.. Utterly ridiculous. You guys have absolutely no idea how well you have it made and you guys are crying like little babies.

In case you didn’t notice, this is the Elementalist forum. We come here to chat about the Elementalist profession. That includes sharing builds, venting our frustrations, and pointing out holes and flaws in the class.
One major frustration is that the Ele has one build that completely outshines the others to such a high degree that it makes it impossible for any of the obvious problems to get fixed. Anytime anyone talks about any deficiencies in the class, Fire traits for example, someone brings up “Ele is fine, they have amazing heals and cleanses and do decent damage with high mobility.”
What you’re describing is one build that has those things. The fact that one build has all those things, and other builds don’t have anything equally impressive, is why there are so many complaints and “Depressing Threads” on the Ele forums.
When I’m chatting on the Necro forums I don’t tell them that they’re great at Condi damage so they should quit being babies. When I’m reading the Warrior forums I don’t tell them that they do amazing PvE dps and to quit whining. Nobody likes to be pidgeonholed into one predictable build/playstyle because it’s the only build that was designed well.
Every class has things it excels at, and every class has legitimate design flaws. It would be stupid to just pretend they aren’t there.

Play 30/30/x/x/x easiest build by far. Just yesterday I had a 1v10 with this build. Health didn’t even drop below 70%. After the massacre I took on an incoming zerg. Was able to down half before another zerg came in to contain me. I’m telling you man 30/30/yolo build is so OP and so easy its ridic. Did you know the number 11 grandmaster fire trait has a 50% chance to instantly kill opposing players IRL I don’t even know how this trait wasn’t nerfed by now. IMO it should be reduced to 25%. Hopefully then well see some real balance.

I get an insane amount of bags and I start out with CC, namely static field and/or frozen ground.
Something you must realize is that Meteor Storm can be great, but it’s SLOW and RANDOM. This makes it quite alot less effective in alot of situations. Conversely while lower damage glyph of storms is alot faster, alot more mobile, and tons more reliable. Ice Bow #4 is essentially a smaller very concentrated much faster version of meteor storm with extra bleeding.
In the time that it takes to cast one meteor storm I can cast like 3-6 other spells. Those spells are mobile and I can keep them targeted on the combat if combat is mobile. This is where experience comes in, knowing when to use and when not to use meteor storm can easily double your fight effectiveness. It’s definitely not an “every battle” skill.
Also as an ele you are one of the most effective people for finishing off the downed and making sure they stay downed. You should get alot of bags from that alone. Downed people don’t dodge and aside from thief they are immobile sitting ducks for locational AOE.

I hope you are speaking sPVP only. I run all rampager’s 10/30/20/10/0 and have good success. Though admittedly high level fractals is the one PVE thing I have not done. I’m more of a WvW player really.
I’ve switched a few traits around since then as I end up on staff most of the time (WvW and alot of dungeon areas), but the build is still the same aside from some major traits being switched to different stuff. This started out as an air scepter build for fun and morphed into a great staff build hehe.

Tragically, this is the thought process and standard of evidence provided by people asking for Ele nerfs. Captain Hyperbole is the mascot for the “Ele is OP” crowd.

the largest drop this game has had in player base, was not from lack of pve progression, but from lack of wvw progression, free transfers, failure to fix thieves or culling, and complete failure to support esports.
as someone who plays both pve and pvp, anets 5:1 pve:pvp focus has a been a huge negative considering wvw is really the only implemented endgame.

My suggestions were based upon all-‘round class balance. To bring everyone to an equal level. I personally see the most balanced class in the game to be Guardian, it fills it’s role perfectly.

That’s actually the first comment you’ve made in the thread I agree with. Hitting the sweet spot the Guardian is at should be the goal for all the other classes.
I find myself still hoping they’ll implement the changes I asked for in my staff buff/fix thread. None of them really increased the damage, but they all worked toward making the staff more versatile;
Making Fire more AoE, Air more single target, speeding up our abilities through shortening animation time (We’re the only class where casting time/animation time/aftercast delay make most of our abilities take 3-6 seconds instead of the 1-2 in the tooltips.) Improving our staff escape mechanisms so that we can actually have a chance of maintaining range. Little things that add up to a vast difference in actual gameplay. I think the only damage buffs I asked for were on the fields (why are our combo fields special in that they don’t do damage?) and making Air 1 a single target high damage attack.

DD users complaining about not being able to use RTL and troll whole zergs themselves.
come try play a staff elemental. then you atleast have a Valid point in being seriously kitten ed off at the designers.
DD users have: dmg, escapes, survival, boons.
staff have none of these.
and you complain ?? just lol.
Pfft, staff users still have plenty of boons. They can slot cantrips just like anyone else for defense, have a crapload of spells they can drop to cover their retreat, and Fire 4 is severely underrated. Their single-target damage is pretty bad but they have much more AoE damage and can afford to spec into damage a little harder.
Staff eles can rightly complain that they still can’t really run glass in most places but overall the staff is a pretty solid weapon.
How to Condi Reaper on a budget
Everything I say is only in reference to PvE and WvW.
I think Eles are fine. It’s just that I believe that they need a really good player to shine. I play Mesmer and so far I met only one really awesome and dangerous Ele that was a real threat to me.
He was D/D build with Valk amulet and Zerker jewel, he had awesome AoE and had some neat tricks like Churning Earth + Lightning Flash. We met in sPvP in several games, these were some great brutal fights when we met each other and I think he killed me more than I him.
But other Eles than him were just merely like pebbles on a way of a train.
So I think it’s not that the profession is weak, but that it is really difficult to pull it off right.
Staff / Dagger 2 is going to be AMAZING soon. Elementalists are going to recieve a huge boost.

I do get tons of bags from that alone, yes, but they seem to never contain any badges for me. It’s just my RNG luck, I guess.
Other than that, yeah. I generally open with earth 4, followed by earth 2 + frozen ground + ice spike behind the cripple line thingy, so people dodging backwards over/out of that dodge into chill+damage. Then I start the damage into the ice field.
.

Yeah, I agree. But that is the reason or RUMOURED reason why they want to nerf AoE because they don’t want you to AoE downed enemy players!
no the reason is aoes are to strong in dungeons XD

My main is a Staff Ele in WvW and dungeons (PvE is S/D). I love staff. I won’t willingly switch out of it unless the situation really, really requires it (which is pretty uncommon). Our trait choices suck (primarily because we don’t really have any) but the actual gameplay is pretty solid.

Okay, I think it’s quite effective in WvW as a bomardment build. It’s also very strong as a support/boss killer. Very difficult to use in PvP, but I managed to still do quite well with it. Certainly tougher to use than D/D I can say, though.
Levelling a guardian until they buff the elementalist.
In all the class I feel that is the one that plays the most similarly.
And at level 20 the guardian already had more health than my half-bunker Lv80 fully-optimized Ele with ascended equipment. My level 28 guardian can survive in WvW almost as easily as the level 80 ele and his healing is already twice better.
There is a definitive imbalance between the amount of time required to make a powerful Ele that can survive WvW and the other classes.

Guardians and Eles have exactly the same base health. If your Guardian had more health, it’s because you built him with more Vitality.
Guardians are very good at taking hits but their ability to escape from a zerg is quite limited as they don’t have anything like Ride the Lightning or Lightning Flash. If the zerg catches up to them, they can do is stall, whereas an Ele just needs to get within mistform-range of a keep

Everything I say is only in reference to PvE and WvW.

Either your wrong about the health, or there is something very wrong with the upscalling.
My guardian (not even level 30 yet) has absolutely no good gear (level 24 armor) and it has more health (19500hp) with only 10 points in vitality trait; My ele as all ascended (tons of vitality, also a corrupted staff that gives bunch more), 25 points in water, and ends up at 18500hp.

The health thing is right, Elementalists share the exact same base health pool with Thieves and Guardians (lowest in the game). Next tier is Mesmer, Ranger & Engineer (again, exact same base HP). Highest tier is Necromancer and Warrior (exact same, highest in the game).
Either you overlooked some Vitality stats on your Guardian, or that uplevel algorithm is kinda messy .
And there is only one thing we say to Death: ‘Not today’.

but at least guardian is one of the best at everything else.
There is a reason if there are so many guardians and warriors in www.
Also a guardian can easily survive a zerg for minutes….they don t need mistform….
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.

My group of 5 fought against a Mesmer, an up-leveled Ranger, and a hammer-wielding Guardian (not sure the build) this morning and though the Mesmer and Ranger went down rather quickly, the Guardian felt like he was just laughing at us. We could get him down to about 25% but then he’d somehow heal back up and negate a massive amount of incoming damage.

S/F Cleric Guardians take a beating like none other.

When two zergs are clashing, a Guardian built with enough tankiness can wade around through it for a while, this is true, but so can a D/D bunker Ele. Neither’s going to do a whole lot other than general disruption, though. Incidentally, this exact situation is why I like playing my Necro in WvW.
Guardians do have their version of Mist Form, though: Renewed Focus. It’s a channel that grants invulnerability instead of simply being in an invulnerable state but they’re otherwise identical for the purposes of getting away from a mob, except the Guardian can’t follow it up with a Lightning Flash to made space.

You are exactly correct. The algorithm for upscaling is VERY generous to vitality. A level 20 ele upscaled with a little bit of vitality on gear and some minor vitality buff (world buff or guild buff) can outstrip a level 80 exotic geared for max vitality by quite a bit. They are generous like this because you don’t have as many stats that will be scaling (only 1 stat on your gear) so you are still weaker overall.
This is pretty much my experience, too.
