Yeah there’s no reason these skills shouldn’t be ground targeted. Most AoE should be. I’ll just add that we haven’t gotten a red post in a LONG time. This is just a place to chat now. Best place for suggestions is the lazy…. Err I mean balance forum.

PvP wise comet is fine… but I totally get the frustration with attempting to blast fire fields with S/F.

PvP wise Comet is definitely fine, although it may be a bit too slow for Pvp if you’re really aiming to take some one on the interrupt.
Comet seems like a really odd spell animation. I think that it should most certainly have ground targeting but a radius either a little smaller than or equal to the size of an arcane wave’s (and only target 1 person).
but it’s multi target now!!!
If comet became ground targetted it would need a size increase or else you’d never be able to land it against a moving target in PvP.. it would just become a water phoenix, but might blasting would be easier.

Why don’t these skills have ground targeting? It doesn’t make sense to me why things like banners, conjures, and earthshaker on warrior hammer F1 should have it yet these two do not.
Doesn’t it seem silly to have to do this with your camera every time you want to cast this spell without a target?

no more ground targeting, I hate it because it stops me from getting into the atunement dancing. If I could I’d hide this post I don’t want more skills to be ground targetted. Arcane Wave becoming a ground target spell has already ruined the skill for me.
If you prefer ground targetting just use staff don’t change the other weaponsets.
Seriously if this were to happen I’d quite the game all together.
+1, I hate the fact that dragons tooth and comet are not ground targeted. It makes no sense and is frustrating to use. Not only does dragons tooth take about 9 years to reach the ground, but I can’t even try and lead an enemy with it because it appears where they were at the moment and any enemy with a brain is going to dodge it or simply walk away.

Comet needs to stay as it is if we ever want it to interrupt someone, as odd as it is with its weird cast time.
Dragon’s tooth, on the other hand, could use a little buff.
as an experienced scepter user in pvp, this is a terrible idea, it would make elementalist way more difficult to play
if u got issues to land dragonstooth, its used mostly in chain with air 5 (dagger and focus, both r fine) to get the 5-10 k crit on enemy (yes in pvp, my max dmg without having much might or without my enemy having much vulnerability was around 11-12k
the skill rly is strong, combined with fresh air trait setup, u can basically go (hoping ur enemy doesnt have stunbreaks)
air 5, dragontooth, phoenix, lightning flash on enemy during phoenix, but b4 it is casted, air attunement, air 2, arcane utility
it brings down any slightly, even if its just slightly , glassy proffession, and even to bunkers it damages em heavily
Comet is fine, at least in a PvP setting…it’s a true fire-and-forget Daze on command, and it’s nice.
Dragon tooth would be nerfed imo if it had ground targeting since that implies LoS being required and it currently isn’t required. So yeah thats kind of a nerf. You can legit hit arrow carts in towers in south east tower in wvw bl standing in the tunnel with dragon’s tooth, its super handy.
why not just make DT & comet drop in the distance that we usually desire when we try and cast them by using the camera trick anyways?
Ground target comet would honestly be a nerf lol. Right now, you don’t need LoS to use it which allows you to interrupt people hugging walls or a thief who just shadowstepped.
Dragon’s tooth on the other hand needs a faster cast time or higher base damage to actually make it worth the keystroke. As it is now, it is only useful for wrecking resbots or arrow carts ontop of keep walls. Ground target won’t magically make all your dragon tooth attacks hit, because the animation is godawful long.
Both are extremely easy to land IMO, comet doesn’t work in stack though unless you move out of the stack and back in but I don’t think it’s really that much of a pain in order to make it a groundtarget skill.

So because you cant handle 1 more variable when usning 2 skills the rest of us will stay with crap.Those skills even with the delay they have.. could be so much more than what they are now if only you could lead the target when using them. I cant be more certain when im saying that id witness a huge increase in how many DTs i land if i could chill a target and then throw it at the direction he is heading instead of the location he is at that moment. Or the possibility of reliable zoning areas to save/help teammates more reliable blasting etc..It would be so good and such a buff to s/f !!
Comet is aoe comes down pretty fast.Im sure if it was ground targeted you could catch more people in his radius as well.
Would it be acceptable to everyone if the skills keep working as they do now, except that the skill is centered on the player if cast without target? The only problem I see is that you can’t attack at range without line of sight any more if it is implemented. Or does it have another drawback I did not consider?

if they let you choose to either auto-target or ground target y’rself then I’m fine with it but simply imposing something on everyone even though it’ll make it more complicated and near impossible for some just because you think you might be able to land more hits is selfish and not very nice.
Comet is fast enofe it may need a bigger aoe though. Dragon’s tooth needs to have a tracking system where it keeps over the targets head and moves with them until it starts to fall. To make these ground targeted would take a lot from the ability to hit non line of sight targets.

+1 both should be ground-targeted. Almost every other AOE in the game is, and it would increase the skill required to land the skill.
Phoenix could then become a homing projectile.

They’re meant as opportunity shots. The best thing about these skills is that you don’t need to be looking at the enemy to cast them.
Switching them to ground targeted skills would be a SERIOUS nerf to eles.
It doesn’t lower the skill cap because you need to set these skills up: if you don’t the skill just doesn’t work.

Quite frankly, I would not support the idea of making Dragon Tooth and Comet work with ground targeting. I think it simply gets in the way of the battle fluidity of the scepter/focus and scepter/dagger eles. We already have enough spells that require ground targeting.
If anything, I would like to see the Dragon Tooth cool down reduced, perhaps by 2 seconds. It is way too easy for oppenents to avoid. Furthermore, I would like to the Focus spells improved — it has remained unchanged for so long now, especially when Gail has a 50s cooldown

Maybe im not too itnerested into wvw comabt and i think hitting things outside los is exploiting but if they were aoe you would still be able to aim the behind you without having to turn and reduce your speed just like every aoe
Come on guys..admit it you are too lazy to care about them being gt but you know that if you master aiming them they would be far better than current versions
I will admit I wasn’t fully aware of how beneficial the skills are in a PvP without ground targeting.
In PvE, they’re terribly annoying like this. My apologies to PvPers and I hope I didn’t give the impression of trying to be selfish.
I still think that modifications to the skills are in order for when you don’t have a target selected. As long as you have a target selected they should function as they currently do, but when you don’t then you should go where your cursor is pointing. That’d be fair, no?
Question is, how difficult would that be for them to implement?
I think you could see way easier might stacking. Which is great, and you could lead into opponents in pvp etc, however it still loses a lot of benefit in killing seige and weird LoS tower fights in wvw. It’s a tradeoff, I could definitely see might stacking be way easier on something like s/f.
