Brb creating a new thread that says the same thing as other threads with different adjectives but is special and different enough because it is my own thoughts.

Beating a deadhorse about topics that have been discussed to death is better than actually talking about a pretty significant buff to staff not discussed at all on these forums.

This is an awesome change imo. I hope they don’t increase the cooldown too much. But it’s going to be fantastic for landing my AoEs in a 1v1 fight, something staff ele desperately needs.

Also it’s going to be hilarious to see people fall over because they are used to just running through it without much of a consequence…

I kinda wished they´d just make it a proper line skill (affects everyone going through)…but instead it´s just a kittentier line of warding…

I wish they could just add a damage component atleast so it has a chance of triggering any of the on hit/crit traits.

It´s ok change.

But then when you start to think how they could´ve done it differently.

Why knockback instead of knockdown? Knockdown would synergise air GM trait, one that´s not really used that much.
Why no damage component? Even a tiniest amount of damage would make it possible to use the skill to trigger on hit/crit effects.

…and then there´s that some of us appreciate soft cc more than hard cc (can be circumvented with stability, stun breaks, using your eyes)

knockdown would make more sense anyways seeing as it’s called unsteady ground, if i stepped on unsteady ground i would expect to get knocked down, not knocked back.

That’s an awesome change to unsteady ground. Right now i often use it when static field is on cooldown, but it doesn’t really effect much in wvw. This change makes it actually very worth it to use, even when static is not on cooldown.

Hope to see more changes to staff. I’ve heard improvements to water attunement skills and hopefully we’ll see one more blast finisher among the staff skills.

@Sinzer, I think they probably wouldn’t change the cooldown, or maybe even shorten it, since they are removing the damage and condition, it seems anet value the extra damage on the non-main-damage spells more than the players do (lightning flash)

80 is double Line of Warding’s cooldown, which is how Anet tends to balance to balance ele skills

It’s not the graphic. It’s the behavior.
Even if it was changed to look like a wall, why would it knock you back?
Other walls in the game don’t.
That’s why it doesn’t feel like a barrier to me, just a very strange knockback that can stunlock you if it was placed on top of you.

That effect from Line of Warding is exceedingly annoying if you don’t have stability up.

Yeah it will feel “very overpowered” to place a line of warding in front of a warrior that has 32k HP and can destroy you pressing 3 keys.

That’s ok, I guess there isn’t really much there in the way of mechanical changes besides this unsteady ground, the others are just numbers it seems.

I’m starting to think if they are changing runes/sigils to be more interesting (I read that as “build defining”) it could be quite the meta change, I’d love all runes and sigils to be as build defining as perplexity.

Unless the entire mechanics behind how the conjures work is changed, they will never be viable in WvW outside of a few distinct circumstance. Why? An ele has to give up everything when they summon a weapon.

My hopes for geyser is double the duration as well as radii to match other AoEs. So far, so good with the change being made.

Changing unsteady ground to working like line of warding is pretty huge, but it is not going to stop staff ele’s from being free points to pretty much anything but uplevelled players if they are caught alone. I do really like this change though….

That is what jon peters said and it ended up being a stupid buff to healing. So ya, I don’t expect it to be anything worth dreaming about.

My estimation is that it´s 40 seconds to be on par with guradian one so that the rule of every ele skill has to be ~50% kittentier than it´s counterpart on other profession stays true, just that it´s the duration that´s subpar this time, not the cd.

The unsteady ground change is a good start. But do you guys realize that Ele HP/heals/damage is too low compared with other classes? For example, if you fight a warrior as an ele (balanced, standard build) you’ll have these problems:

1) Your damage is not high enough. The warrior’s hp doesnt go down.
2) Your Hp is too low (warrior can kill you in 1 stun)

So even if you greatly outplay them, you still can’t kill a warrior.

(Ofc you can give up every stat for damage, but even then the result is still weak vs all classes).

Rename this to "Ele Patch spoiler They still suck

Seriously this is worthy of a forum post to you? If you guys make this out like it is a big deal than I dread too see the future for elementalists. Quit making me go support and make damage builds more viable and fix this broken class.
