Elementalist for me?
If what you want to do is support/damage, but mostly support (what I gathered from your post), you would probably feel right at home with a staff or scepter/focus. You might even love daggers either in the off or dual-wielded in a heavy water build. Just remember that the group support role is your purpose as a staff ele. If that’s the route you go, you will always be at your best when backing up allies…not in 1v1.
Those people saying that Ele sucks don’t understand this. They think that they should be able to be invincible in 1v1 fights with absolutely any weapon set for some reason. That’s not how this game works, though. That’s not to say that you will be terrible at 1v1 with a staff. You can definitely do it if you get good with the weapon and attunement swaps, but it will never be your forte. Keep that in mind and you’ll probably love Ele.
Staff ele is incredible support/dps. Ignore the naysayers on the forums. There are some valid points about our kit, but the ele’s are no more or less viable than any other class, provided you take the time to learn how to play. I have no troubles being top player in sPvP half the matches I play, and I have no problems dropping mobs solo in PvE.
Give it a try. Make sure to switch attachments often. Build condition damage or healing and you’ll have a good time. I swear I was even worse off then everyone else on this forum. I was getting killed by a single mob a level under me early on! But after getting my kitten together I can solo group events just as easily as other classes and do pretty decent in pvp. Everyone is crying “OH FIRE IS GLASS CANNON!!!!!!”. Know before you start. Earth is your best friend. Fire is secondary as burn stacks duration as opposed to intensity(bleeding).

Pretty OK Elementalist
Ignore everyone. Try it out, and make your own conclusion. Then when you’ve had enough, join the QQ storm on these forums.

Understood. I’ll give it a shot, I think. I usually love Mage classes, so it would seem else is a good fit for me.
I absolutely love the 2 x D build I’m running. If you enjoy a fast paced build with diversity that requires you to think, play a double dagger build.
I’m not up to date with all the intricacies that GW2 has to offer, but even at this state I feel the elementalist is great fun and I don’t have problems in spvp. My two complaints would be the downed state for ele’s as well as the base hp’s. Even both of those draw backs can be lessened by proper play.
My suggestions would be as follows.
Make an Elementalist and go directly to Spvp. Start out with something simple like staff and practice a bit on the target dummies and the practice NPCs. Then try a little bit of Spvp and see how it goes.
Ya I’m more interested in the pve role of the ele. Tourney pvp isn’t my cup of tea. I’ll be rolling one when im off work.
Took me 3 remakes to actually get into my ele. First was my norn I got her to 18 then stopped. Deleted her later and eventually making an asura got to 20 and stopped again because I didn’t like any armour sets on her. I finally caved one more time and made a human and so far I have been leveling her with my boyfriends warrior. She is now 38 and I will be getting her higher shortly while he is asleep as he is a few levels ahead. I play D/D on her and have a blast. That being said I also have higher level characters that I will be going back to for the pvp side of things as I just can’t get into my ele for pvp.
I personally think ele’s are the best support/dps class in the game. I built Water/fire/arcane. Switching attunements is your best friend and the amount of CC you can apply to areas is amazing. Just yesterday took on 7 invaders with just a guardian, theif and me. None of us went down. Blind, bleed, burn, chill, cripple, vulnerablity, and immobilize on your staff just awesome if you use it right. Plus switching attunements “can (if traited)” heal and buff nearby allies.
